    Thank you so much for sharing your experience in my beautiful country!!!!👍🏼
    I was born in CAMAGUEY which is very close to Varadero where my cousins live.
    My father is from Matanza where I spent a lot of childhood years.
    My family and I left Cuba in 1969. I was just six years old. Unfortunately I never returned.
    However, it’s because amazing people like you two that allows those like me to enjoy and reminisce the days as a child in a beautiful Country of origin.
    Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us a glimpse of this small paradise that’s only 90 miles away from where I live in Key West today.
    One day…I will visit, for sure.

      I was born in Havana. My mother's mother's side is Irish/British, and her father's side is Canary Islander. My father's father was half Italian and half Spaniard. Many Europeans settled in Cuba. We don't categorize by ethnicity. If a person follows Cuban culture, then that person is considered Cuban. My dad was a Batista soldier, and when Castor took over by force, then he had to flee unnoticed to America, because the commies were searching for him to kill him. I was only 2 years old, when my dad, mom, a 1 year old brother and a 4 year old sister left our beautiful island.. I never have visited Cuba since we left in March 1968.

    We've been travelling & backpacking all over the entire country since 2009 and we've met many Americans. The Cuban gov never used to stamp passports, only the tourist visa, which is disposable.

      @@eva5601 My best guess is you have never been to Cuba. It is up to the Cuban people to determine how they want to be govern. Cuba is absolutely no threat to the United States for over a hundred years we were the power structure in Cuba and the vast majority of Cubans suffered for once the United States needs to stay out of Cuba's business. Here is just a little side note the life exceptency is higher in Cuba than the United States.

    There is much more below the surface, my beautiful wife lives there and there are many things you just haven’t seen or experienced. It is a beautiful place and the people are what makes it an incredible place. They make it nice for the tourist however everyday life is a struggle for the locals with electricity problems to no cooking gas and water that comes when it wants to. Try living with this everyday. Food is a real struggle as the markets are empty most days. It is a diverse and beautiful place for sure but with many problems.

    Great info on your trip but its so much easier for Canadians...i started going to Varadero in 1994, twice a year for vacation....always stayed at the all inclusive hotels, great prices..no worries. tried the private houses a few times but only for a few days while still having my hotel for the week....food was pretty good as i never went hungry, plus...i'm not going on vacation to eat lol...god only knows most people could easily afford to lose a good 10 lbs. what some people consider a scam, i see it as a simple way for the average Cuban to make a few bucks, you try living on $40/month.
    It is a safe place to travel but if your the type to flash your cash and walk around with all your jewelry etc and perhaps a little intoxicated, you may be an easy target, keep that in mind. Otherwiaw, enjoy your vacation and the beautiful beach in Varadero

    Thanks for including your thoughts on Cuba. I was lucky as an American to visit with my university ten years ago. We were in Baracoa and climbed the mountain El Yunque in the national park Alejandro von Humboldt. The city had lots of amazing artists and food, Cuba is safe and the people are lovely and giving although they live simply they share everything to be hospitable. I understand why they try to scam, they didn’t even have toilet paper and sugar unless you can make some tourist $, they are very poor lacking many basic things like soap and toothpaste. Our dollars compared to CUCs are worth an insane amount more. So if they were to get even $20 it goes very far for them. We were happy to tip generously since it was so inexpensive. Baracoa there was not scamming but it’s far out from Havana, closest to major city Santiago. Helps to speak Spanish or go with a local. My profesora is Cuban born in Miami. Do wish relations between our countries would improve so I can visit again someday with no worries.

      Agreed. Nice to see you both smiling a lot. Good way to end your trip there. Also, nice summation at the end. Btw, one of the reasons Castro took Cuba the communist route is he felt there was too much American $ (and Mafia) influence on the Cuban economy. And Cuba did just fine without American (and Western, in general) tourism for more than several decades. Maybe Cuba is better off overall not becoming too dependent on the tourism industry the way many other countries have. Part of its attraction is it is not too touristy unlike other Caribbean places like Cancun, Cozumel and St. Martin overrun with cruise ships and cruise ship people.

      Sonia As said in video crime in Cuba is not much. 'low-level'-bag snatches or chain snatches
      No gun or knife crime as in other countries.England,my country,included! But obviously be careful if walking round at night
      You should travel with someone else, as a lone woman will be hit on by the Cuban men. Also ignore the hustlers on the street trying to sell you something or take you somewhere,just say no gracias
      and walk off
      Also if you take a taxi,agree on the price before you set off
      I would take the Viazul buses when travelling from town to town,takes longer than by car but is about the same price and you get more room to yourself.

    In 1959 Castro succeded in removing Batista as president of Cuba. It's been 60 years since Cuba became a communist country. From what I understand, countries in Latin America started to crumble sometime in the 1970's. Brazil started to collect debt in the 70's and their economy collapsed in the 80's as a result of it. Before Castro became president of Cuba the country had many issues with unequal wealth distribution. Castro gave all Cubans the opportunity to have food on their tables and get an education. Castro prevented the development of slums by getting rid of the inequality.

      @@JosephP1713 I'm not saying I support a communist government. If I had the opportunity to make billions in an honest and legal way I would. I would not want the government to interfere and tell me my salary is too high already. If the revolution led by Castro had failed, Cuba would be competing with Mexico for American tourists. But there's no denying that extreme poverty and malnutrition would be higher. Cuba has many doctors because everyone in Cuba has the opportunity to attend a University.

    • @JumpingPlaces
      @JumpingPlaces  5 лет назад +1

      @daniel, completely agree. Cuba is far from perfect under this government but you also cant deny that they have succeeded in many ways that other countries haven't, including many first world countries even. As i mentioned in the video at the end, the fact that you dont see extreme poverty and its so safe is extremely impressive. Especially for a ex-colonial latin american country, basically unheard of!

      @@JumpingPlaces Daniel, you are speaking to a Cuban-American that knows what he is talking about. No, their health care system is non existent. They don't have the infrastructure, resources and sufficient medical supplies to take care of the average person. This is what Socialism or should I say Communism does to a country and its people.. There is poverty, it's just been spread equally around. Everyone is equally poor, except for the Elite Party officials. Another great thing that you can give credit to Fidel Castro for is widespread use and worship of the Yoruba- Santeria Black Magic Religion. A large portion of the present day Cuban population practice this satanic religion daily. People in government, military, police, doctors, nurses, teachers, you name it, they partake in it. This includes Animal sacrifice and even human sacrifice.

    • @JosephP1713
      @JosephP1713 5 лет назад

      @@jennapornographyjame You're still believing the propaganda!! You are making statements, and not stating facts. Ask any Cuban doctor if they had the opportunity to practice their trade anywhere in the world where they could make a decent living, do you think that they would stay in the present political and economic structure that they're living under or go elsewhere? And I am not speaking about making billions or millions of dollars. The revolution did fail!! Look at Cuba today. Look at the Cuban people today. Look at how they depend on others who live outside of Cuba to send them basic medical supplies and financial help.They have lost their sense of morality and are probably more materialistic today than they were before Castro's revolution. So don't talk to me about Fidel Castro's revolution and his paradise! Because what you are stating are communist ideological political talking points, propaganda and not reality!! Cuba before Castro's revolution was economically well off. It's economy was not based solely on tourism. It had industrial manufacturing as well as mining and other industries such as agriculture, poultry, fishing, etc...

    Really appreciate All the thought at the end of the video, however taking in consideration I’m cuban I don’t agree with the comment on the “socialism” helping people or decreasing the number of homeless people. In fact, most people ate so poor that have many generations get married and have children and live in the same house with their parent just because there is no way ti afford anything but food, and that is when they can afford food. The reality for tourists is completely different than the reality for the locals there.
