Honestly, when it comes to top Civ 6 RUclipsrs, it's either you or Boesthius! Always fun, always educational, always interesting! Just the sheer amount of content you put out is insane, Mr. Bear! How you manage to do it entertaining and not feeling samey is beyond me
Yep, I found out you get that huge era score chunk if you have holy sites then use a Great Prophet with Exodus dedication when i had the strangest Pericles game where I made my religion after turn 150. Great prophets got banned twice and I took out Wu before she could use her prophet. Russia had converted most of my civ but I faith bought the last prophet, instantly converting 7 or so cities and getting double for era score. I deliberately let them waste their faith, a very useful tip from you and potato about converting when founding your own religion (or opponents too)
In terms of why the AI rushes Machu Picchu, my best quess is that, since it is built on mountains which are unworkable and provide no benefit otherwise, the AI sees building it as an infinite increase in the utility of the tile. In order to test this hypothesis, I propose you play a game with only 5 copies of Inca and see if it is still gone way too quickly.
Ursa thinking mercury is "juicy" explains the madness of this episode. Swahili looks like a great civ, I'd be interested in a bigger play through at some stage, maybe with Brigand Court.
We were at the beach... Everybody had matching towels... Somebody went under a dock, And there they saw a rock. It wasn't a rock, It was a rock lobster
I believe the frozen barbarians were from the camp near Rapa Nui. Once the camp has been cleared the spawned barbarians from that camp freeze. Or the are on land they attack the nearest target until they are dead.
once came into a dark age around turn 100, was faaarrr behind on the 100 science by turn 100 measure. Monasticism put me at like 130, it was awesome... until i heroic'd out 30ish turns later to like 80 science.
10:30 Me already thinking "oohh you can then get Mahabodhi temple next to your harbor then and get a juicy +1 trade road capacity 👀" let's see if you'll think about it
Broke the game playing as the Mapuche earlier, got a poor spawn initially but really good for the long term. My neighbour just so happened to be on another continent connected via land border. I took ‘em down, established governors in all their cities, then built wonders to boost their yields (including “cities not on your original capital’s continent”). I just left everyone behind then by the time the industrial era started. Plans are to now go for a domination victory using the colonial policy cards that give gold for killing units from earlier eras combined with holy wars as I’m theocracymaxxing 😎 Watching Ursa’s content has made me a much better civ player, I watch everything now.
In today's episode Ursa plays around with another modded civ, the Swahili! After an important update (almost there!), we take a closer look at the civilization Ursa will be playing. Ursa moves the starting settler onto some coffee for better potential adjacency bonuses, then settling Kilwa Kisiwani. We learn that Ursa is a forgetful bear, and forgot to tell us that he is also playing with Sukritact's Oceans. The Swahili discover both Rapa Nui and Preslav, as well as visiting a very underwhelming tribal village. A barbarian scout discovers Kilwa Kisiwani, and runs off through the desert, then the Swahili's first scout goes east. After taking out a Barbarian Encampment, the Swahili get introduced to Indonesia. Mombasa gets settled right on some mercury, which promptly gets sold to Indonesia. After an impression of one of the best bands to have ever existed (tin roof, rusted!), Lamu gets settled on some more mercury. After source of horse ruins a good commercial hub placement, the Swahili pantheon gets picked, and while not useful now, it will be later. Indonesia wants to be friends, and the Swahili agree, then Taruga gets met. Ursa decides that a deliberate Classical era dark age is the way to go, aiming for a medieval heroic age. Liang gets recruited and put in Mombasa, and Amani gets recruited shortly afterwards, and begins her world tour. A trader get sent towards Rapa Nui, and the Swahili collaps into a dark age, just as intended. A Prophet gets recruited, and gets to wait a turn until Lamu finishes it's holy site, and Rapa Nui gets suzerained by the Swahili. The Prophet gets used to make a "not at all fishy" religion, picking up Religious Community and Tithe, getting a large era score boost. A galley gets built in Lamu, and a source of horse gets improved. The Swahili build both a pillar tomb, and a Jahazi (its a lovely boat), netting eight era score. The Jahazi then builds a fishing boat. Political Philosophy gets discovered by the Swahili, and they go with everyones favorite, classical republic, and a second lobster gets improved. Indonesia declares war on a city state that the Swahili has not yet met, so there's nothing they can do. Preslav bows to the Swahili republic, and some spices get improved, then Preslav joins the not at all fishy Swahili religion. A barbarian galley moves next to Lamu, and a new galley is bought in the city. After som clever and skillfull maneouvering, said barbarian boat is dealt with. An unfortunate Swahili settler then meets another barbarian boat, but fortunately doesn't get ganked. Iron gets discovered, on another annoying tile next to the Swahili capital, and Zanzibar gets settled south of Kilwa Kisiwani and east of Rapa Nui. The Swahili manages to build the Temple of Artemis in Mombasa, then buys a lighthouse in Kilwa Kisiwani. The Swahili meets Brazil after discovering a great place for a city on another island. We discover that the Swahili is starting to fall behind scientifically, as they continue to settle cities, adding Sofala west of Mombasa and Kilwa Kisiwani. Then Brazil wants to be friends, which Ursa quickly accepts, and a Jahazi (its a lovely boat) gets to escort a settler at sea. The Swahili are the first to meet Mitla, quickly becoming their Suzerain, and the Swahili builds the Hanging Gardens one turn to early. Then the Swahili republic enters a heroic age, going for Free Inquiry, Monumentality, and Pen, Brush, and Voice. Will the Swahili meet the final major civilization before the Renaissance? Will Kilwa Kisiwani finish the Colossus before another civ? What win condition will Ursa attempt? Turn in to the next episode, same Ursa time, same Ursa Channel!
Holy Sites are part of the districts that only require a +3 instead of a +4 to get the special Era Score from building the first "good adjacency" district of this type ^^ Campuses were nerfed to +4 at some point due to how op campus gameplay is
Question for you ursa, in the last series you referenced a schedule of what you are filming. How do you come up with the schedule? What influences your thoughts for it? How far in advance do you plan? Just curiousity from this end, keep up great content :)
Schedule can change - on a good week I'm about a week ahead, ideas are from me and channel supporters, sort of go with the wind! On a bad week I might be still filming a series when it starts to go up...!
9:36 “it’s only because I’m desperate.”, Did I say that out loud ? lol 18:44 just had another brain fart. Since this is an island map too bad, there wasn’t a mod that added the promotion for naval units, call the hedgehog promotion. That would be awesome in certain situations, especially against raging naval barbs. 28:47 DOH!😂
Apologies if this was covered, I was listening the vid on my phone while at work and may have missed it. Whats the interaction (if any) between Liang and the unique boat? Im assuming the boat is coded like a military engineer, so there's no interaction at all. But if so, can you burn a charge to clear a feature like Kelp the same way an engineer can chop a wood or marsh?
There should totally be a mod allowing you to do something about strategics in the wrong spot... harvesting for a boost of production? or, since if you already have a district placed there you get the strategic, then allow us to place districts on top of them.
*Start of an interesting game! I always play sukritact's oceans as a base game nowadays; never have any issues with it. Great civ this one. Civ 7 really needs Sukritacts input I think lol. ROCK LOBSTER I always hear Petter Griffin now when I hear that lol* 💪👍 🪨🦞
I have tried and tried giving civ 6 a chance, spent 100 hours, but can't seem to get into playing it. I love watching you play it but I just can't do it myself.got 2k hours on civ 5 so maybe I'm just too ingrained in my old ways
I always watch Ursa at 1.75x speed. I am honestly not sure if he's as manic as I think he is because his words match the speed in which I hear him speak.
I don't understand why you would not settle your first city next to the river.. it would have given you more population, a better harbour bonus with the reef and you would not have been screwed with the horses appearing on the forest where you could put your hub for best adjacency bonuses with the river... I'm a little puzzle because you have made so many videos explaining how to settle properly and now it looks like you don't make any judgment call anymore.. ?
Housing is easy to find with a harbour / lighthouse combo and staying put gave me better tile yields - plus I talk about how with this modded civ, harbour & district placement is different than usual so the results seem a bit weird
It’s the Swahili on the Swahili Coast!
Came here to say the same thing
Hoarding all the lobster?! How shellfish 😮😅
Hahaha
Second comment: sukritacts oceans is basically permanently active in my games. Glad you’re giving it a go
Same for me to be honest. It's a good mod.
Glad I put it on!
Since the original start would allow for three districts adjacent to the harbour, I'd have settled in place, I think
True, but I like chaos XD
The worst part of every Ursa video is the part when Ursa Bear pops up in a mug in the bottom right...I don't want it to end...
Awwww

Sukritact!!!!!! huzzah!!!!
Huzzah!
It's so small, but it's also such a QoL upgrade that you added the "just kidding" to the intro to your sub pitch. TY!
😂
Naval support unit is a great idea, that leaves an opening for all kinds of landing craft. Maybe even a land and sea support unit thats a hovercraft!
I thought that! So many fun little skills we could add to the game
Definitely an interesting Civ. Doesn't seem overpowered, and kinda plays differently. Cheers, Ivan :D

"Let's begin! Just kidding, haha, watch this"
"And now, for an important update."
He said it, he said the thing! He acknowledged the Ursa Bear bit!
Ursa thinking mercury is "juicy" explains the madness of this episode.
Swahili looks like a great civ, I'd be interested in a bigger play through at some stage, maybe with Brigand Court.
The symmetry of Kilwa in Kilwa would be amazing
The round icon (crest?) is beautiful. Great work.
This is the best modded civ......hands down.....and with the atoll map type they are unstoppable
Really fun to play I must say!
Morning after bear says "Motion in the ocean, ooo aahh"
🎉
Hehehe
We were at the beach...
Everybody had matching towels...
Somebody went under a dock,
And there they saw a rock.
It wasn't a rock,
It was a rock lobster
Comomotion in the ocean
His airhose broke!!!
People who were born in the last millenium may think we're just speaking in tongues now...
I believe the frozen barbarians were from the camp near Rapa Nui. Once the camp has been cleared the spawned barbarians from that camp freeze. Or the are on land they attack the nearest target until they are dead.
So happy you’re playing this I love this modded civ!
This is a great mod. I would have gone for the fishing boat pantheon, giving you 3 production on every improved fishing boat!
This tasty lobster ref of yours just got you a like, my good sir!

Punchy Ursa, right off the bat! Series is going to be good!
The way this civ works you want your city center in bay shape areas...

Ursa, don't ask me why but I find the colour combination of your empire very satisfying.

Here in the state of Maine we also operate on an entirely lobster based economy.
So I've heard XD
Got the like for ROCK LOBSTA🪨🪨🪨🦞🦞🦞🦞
Dun dun dun, dun dun, dundundundun
👍, actually btightens up my day.
So we GOTTA build Kilwa in Kilwa, right?!?!
You have to play the Navajo! They’re a super cool desert-faith based modded civ
I love games where you get to really use monasticism. Really fun with the Maya.
Always here for the sweet sweet mod content.
Nice a new series and civ to play myself.
Huzzah!
Let's bring stuff to the coast, and sell it, and become the Swahili on the Swahili Coast.
...said the Swahili on the Swahili Coast.
So so so close to 50K!!! Can’t wait to learn how to cook crabs at the university of sankore
Holy Sites are part of the districts that only require a +3 instead of a +4 to get the special Era Score from building the first "good adjacency" district of this type ^^
Campuses were nerfed to +4 at some point due to how op campus gameplay is
Later on I realise the game doesn't include the +2 from city centers when calculating the era score!
Super interesting UU. Build one for the era score, build two and you get the inspiration for ship building and the boost for craftsmanship?
50k lets go!
Huzzah!
I feel like this civ would pair well with alternate cartography's atoll map
Those crabs about to get stomped 50k times ❤
i can't play civ without sukritact's oceans, it's just that good lol
27:04 Preslav instantly upgraded FOUR warriors into swordsmen! Did it have... 80 iron??
Early bear powers combine!

This is one of the sukritact mods I haven't tried yet, they look super interesting!
Honestly well worth a go!

The unique unit is really clever. Genuinely don’t know how these modders think this stuff up
Sukritact is amazing!

There is a mod just for this!
Oh my! I fear this lobster-based economy may put Ursa on a collision course with Crustus! We shall see...

I literally play with sukritacts oceans every game and just found out you can remove kelp bc of this LMAO
Let's go
Huzzah!
someone probably said this already but isn't it just the FIRST district with 3 or more adjacency bonus that gives the era score?
Indonesian Joe had me cracking up
I want to play as the Swahili right meow😂😹
You didn’t get era score from the +4 holy site since the threshold is +3, and you already had that in your capital
Hopefully i wont lose track of yet another series!

Why don't you place your districts so you can conservate their building cost?
Because that benefit is super minimal and I always change my mind about what district I want - I'm a very flexible player rather than a super planner
