The Rush song “Red Sector A” was written after Neil was listening to Geddy talk about his families surviving the Holocaust and the Camps. It’s a fabulous song. The lyrics are haunting. You should do a reaction to it. Cheers! 🤘🤘

His Mom, Mary, just died two years ago this July, at age 96.
Dave Grohl and his Mom did a limited run television show a few years back entitled From Cradle to Stage, which followed a documentary/interview format. One of the Rock n Roll moms interviewed for an entire episode of this show was Mary Weinrib.

I could listen to Geddy, Neil and Alex talk for hours. Love these guys. No wonder Geddy is such a good guy. His parents did a great job. Thanks for sharing. Your friends from northeast Florida

100% agree. They are just great humans and can speak so well, but each of them in a different way.

I am so glad he found out and eventually got his life together! He is a fighter and we need fighters in this life. When I found out about the Holocaust I cried for weeks. I began to learn all about what happened and why…a horrific event. So glad to hear him!! Thanks Rory!

Hi Teresa. Yes, that is terrifying indeed. Have you heard of the Gulags in the Soviet Union too? That was the place where the Nazi copied their horrible idea which existed before and after WWII. "There's no lesser of an evil, there's only evil". Peace out!!

The Nazis got the overall concept from the Eugenics movement in America that declared only well to do whites were fully human. There was even involuntary sterilization performed on poor people .Nazis were very impressed with Jim Crow oppressive laws that only applied to Black people.

This is a tough one to share but I’m glad you did. We should never forget what happened. These stories are more and more important as less people who lived then remain alive. Thanks for sharing. Powerful interview.

"All that we can do is just survive
All that we can do to help ourselves
    Is stay alive…
    Ragged lines of ragged grey
    Skeletons, they shuffle away
    Shouting guards and smoking guns
Will cut down the unlucky ones
    I clutch the wire fence
    Until my fingers bleed
A wound that will not heal -
A heart that cannot feel -
Hoping that the horror will recede
    Hoping that tomorrow -
    We’ll all be freed
    Sickness to insanity
    Prayer to profanity
Days and weeks and months go by
Don’t feel the hunger - too weak to cry
I hear the sound of gunfire
    At the prison gate
    Are the liberators here -
Ao I hope or do I fear?
For my father and my brother, it’s too late
But I must help my mother
    Stand up straight…
Are we the last ones left alive?
Are we the only human beings
    To survive?"

I'm impressed you didn't burst out laughing when they said "Holocaust denier" it always makes me think of Norm and Adam Eget. Didn't know about this video until I found it in the RUSH playlist.

Thank you for sharing this Rory. I thought you would find it interesting to learn a bit about the background of this incredible musician and human being. His mother's words when sitting in the audience with Geddy and her other children at the 50th Anniversary of her freedom - "I know I have won the war" - brought it all home to me. Rory, your willingness to share your genuine feelings, beliefs and perspective on many topics - not to mention your in-depth understanding of music - are the reasons I am drawn to your reactions. Thanks again.

I love when he impersonates his mom's accent. Funny thing, Geddy's real name is Gary, but everyone called him "Geddy" when he was a kid because that's how it sounded when his mom said his name.

Answer to why this is denied? Deniers aren't historians, they are Nazis and Nazi sympathizers. Denial isn't about scholarship and study. It exists for these reasons 1/make Nazis more sympathetic figures; 2/minimize the suffering of people you've decided you hate; 3/infuriate or upset victims, relatives of victims or simply decent people. That's it and that's all. It's not complicated

I know you've taken a liking to Alex chaotic guitar playing. Take a look at the By-Tor and the Snowdog medley from the Exit stage left tour. Includes other oldies (In the end and In the Mood) Alex at his best.

Just think there are people that believe that it never happened Too many people get their info from the net where anyone can make up conspiracies Instead of stories like this

    • @LydellC
      @LydellC Год назад +1

Ignorance, personal views or agendas, and malice breed conspiracy theories ...and charismatic figures have many platforms to help spread them widely. Too many people are ready to believe nonsense because they're either too lazy to fact check or are gullible and give credence to questionable info sources, especially if what they hear plays into their own biases. We really are approaching idiocracy.

You're right. This guy totally couldn't have made up a story about experiencing an horrific event like so many have done in other events such as 9/11 or any other actual genocide that occured

PS - Just a note about what "liberal" likely would have meant to Lee during this interview. Educated Canadians understand liberal in the same sense as most Europeans (i.e. freedom of thought, freedom of economic choice, freedom of conscience). By contrast, Americans understand the term liberal to mean progressive, which connotes people who value attaining societal objectives over maximizing individual freedoms.
