You should pour fuel in the watermelon with the smoke powder to get a better smoke vortex
I’ve worked in science centre here in my country and we have created our own vortex using smoke too. Why your smoke vortex didn’t work may be two things:
1) we have place the origin of smoke below the wind turbine. Maybe you can try digging a hole in the ground so that it doesn’t smother the flame and when the smoke comes out, it will be picked up immediately like what it has done with your flame.
2) I know that you are trying to prevent spewing of hot smoke power but that may also a cause of why it didn’t pick up the vortex. Maybe the fan wasn’t strong enough but a single source of smoke still works the best. To prevent spewing, you can try a metal mesh that lets smoke through and catches the hot spew.
I like people that spend the proper amount of time writing something so I does not look like a four year olds

I don't know for sure but one possibility is when you start an electric motor it draws a massive amount of current momentarily, for multiple motors that could blow out fuses. Starting one at a time might help that. Or maybe he just didn't think of it. *shrug*
I'd be curious to see if putting the smoke source inside of a tube to shield it from the initial wind would make the smoke thicker when it hits the vortex?

Try putting a box fan under the watermelon pushing the smoke upwards. You could also try this with coloured fire!

You should see if explosions are bigger in a vacuum. I think it would be because there is no pressure containing it. Maybe set off some firecrackers in a vacuum chamber?

Not necessarily!! There are fuses that burn underwater where there is no oxygen... and as far the firecracker, I personally have lit and thrown a firecracker into a pond and it exploded underwater! (You should try that, it looks really cool!) So if they drilled a small hole in the lid of a vacuum chamber and put some wires through it that lead to a coil of thin wire wrapped around the fuse and sealed the hole with hot glue or something, then they could ignite it in the vacuum by running power from say a couple 9v batteries into the coil which would get red hot and ignite the fuse! Then compare it in slo-mo with a normal firecracker bursting.
It would have less force although I think it would look bigger.

I was thinking about how to make a smoke tornado and when I saw a fire tornado I came up with the idea: try to put watermelon on a metal stand/bucket, light it and then make a fire around it. Since fire is hot - it should be able to lift a smoke a little bit higher so the smoke tornado will have a bit of time to appear. Or try to put the part of watermelon into the ground and cover it by the perimeter where the holes are with some glass/other material, so wind won't blow straight into a hole but will go over it and catch the rising smoke.
Similar take to my idea that I've already posted above. You put the fire around the smoke, my thought was to put the fire in the middle of the smoke. I think both approaches should be tried.
How about just putting a fan beneath watermelon blowing air upwards that should help for lift
@@kshitiz_s it won't work simply because the fan will melt cause of high temperature, even if not - it will still blow way too hard , so the smoke will just be blown up and won't have time to swirl

Great experiment crazy and extremely fun to watch especially when it does make the full vortex. The trick it to dig down a little bit and place the watermelon in the hole to let the smoke fully come out before the airstream hits it. If done right it will work like a charm every time. I would love to watch you do the experiment and see how high you could get the vortex to go!
could you do acetone experiments? I think that would be cool to see what can withstand it and what cant, like dry ice, shards of mirror and glass

Why don’t you redo this experiment, but this time place a ring of that fuel around the watermelon or some inside - that way hopefully the updraft will carry the smoke up in a vortex

take the perpetual vortex fountain and see if you can make a fire tornado that comes from the center of it. Maybe suspending the fuel above the center of the vortex or by lighting some material that floats on water, but can still burn underwater and see if the flames will still spiral from that, whether the same direction as the vortex or not.

Maybe if u put a fan under the watermelon, it would have something to pull the smoke up like fire naturally does
retry this with watermelon buried in the ground, the smoke exits via a series of pipes or one big pipe. the smoke went to the lower half of the watermelon due to is oval shape creating a diverted airflow, i do suggest to avoid this by using a different container that has a wide bottom and narrow top, cone-like container eliminates this effect. or just straight bury it int he ground like my first suggestion earlier
