    I'm an Aussie and I was pretty sure we were going to lose to South Korea, much more history and cultural foods that have developed over centuries, back when it was just Korea. Sure, we have our breakfasts but they are pretty widespread as some are adopted from around the world but none particularly stand out as a culinary icon when you think of Australia. Appreciated your representation of our breakfast, being in this tournament and your use of Vegemite.
    *Edit*:spelled Vegemite wrong first go, whoops.

      @DHRMP You don't cook banchans every day, usually your matriarch will make a big batch on a Sunday or something to last 1-2 weeks. A really typical Korean family has a bunch of tuppaware for each banchan and you can put a bit of each out, or if you're feeling lazy just set the tuppaware out and return it to the fridge after.

    Can you rate the Ecuadorian Breakfast in one of your videos (or in this series)? We typically eat Patacones (fried green plantains - NOT bananas) and also Bolones De Verde (which also include plantains). I think the Ecuadorian breakfast is really good, and would make for a great short or long video.

  • @CitizenSniiiips
    @CitizenSniiiips 2 года назад +36

    Got some suggestions on Australian breaky. During the week we stick to simple things like oats and other cereals, yoghurt, fruits, vegemite on toast etc with a flat white or latte or maybe something you grab on the go like a breaky wrap.
    But on the weekends it's brunch's time to shine and this is something people don't fully understand about us. We go HARD at brunch and this is where our international food influence is really given the attention it deserves. You can go to literally any brunch cafe around the country and will almost always see multiple variations of eggs benedict/florentine, a big breakast, avo on toast either done simply or elegantly with trimmings like pomegranate seeds, mushrooms etc, breakfast "stacks" where we take potato rostis and load them up with avo, poached eggs, indian masalas, mushrooms, eggplant etc etc etc and of course for the sweet tooth fluffy pancakes with seasonal fruits. But you're also just as likely to see all sorts of Mexican inspired breakfast crossovers, scrambled eggs with all sorts of versions e.g. Thai with chili garlic prawns, "breakfast" nasi gorengs, Lebanese dishes with fatoush or Turkish cilbir..... the list is endless.
    In my opinion as someone who goes out for brunch like it's a hobby I think you have a couple of quintessential brunch meals for breakfast. The first is a break bruschetta (take that Italians) where we take your normal avo on toast, add a lovely fresh bruschetta mix toped with some poached eggs, fresh basil and balsamic glaze. The second being a rosti stack where you start with a base of potato (or sweet potato) rosti, and build from there with any number of toppings like avo, pico de gallo, poached eggs, bacon, fried mushrooms, feta. A typical combo would be avo, bacon, eggs and a fresh salsa but you can go vego and do avo, mushrooms, feta. And lastly, you can't have Australian breakfast without a flat white or latte. That's basically illegal.
    I really think Australia needs another go, but you really need to have a look at the cafe culture of the big cities like Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to really get an idea of how we take inspiration from our big melting pot of culture combined with our unrivalled access to all produce from around the world. Scrambled eggs on toast with avo is what I'd make myself at home, but if I was at the cafe down the road I'd be having it with poached eggs, whipped feta, pomegranate molasses and salsa verde.....

    You've already tried fool medames and said you love beans, so I invite you to try Egyptian falafel. Unlike other countries in the middle east we make them from fava beans not chickpeas, they have a bright green color on the inside, we serve them in a pita pocket with tahini, chopped tomatoes and parsley. We also sometimes stuff them with a spicy harissa-like paste, but be careful with the amount you use of that because it can be really spicy.

    As a true aussie. I don’t think that was fair. Versing South Korea with cultural studied foods for over generations and then whipping out an Aussie egg with avocado on toast, like seriously 😐 in my opinion I would have done Japan V South Korea since it has more cultural similarities ,to make the “competition” fair. When I go to a cafe to get my daily Brekky I like to get avo on toast, but instead of scrambled they always serve poached eggs, which in my opinion is way better, the egg yolk dripping out the side from the toast adds a gooey texture to it. If you re watch the video when the man is showing you how to make a true Aussie Brekky it’s wrong, that was 5 years ago, and we’re talking about the now. I’m sorry if that was rude but it was the plain old truth.

Basically for a very long time, and still is in a way, it was much easier to get steak than bacon, so a lot of the traditional British dishes were changed to from bacon to steak. Also pretty much all of our sausages are beef rather than the more common British pork.

    The Korean one is missing a soup. A soup or stew is ESSENTIAL to a Korean meal and families will usually make a big pot of soup that will last them for a handful of meals, that way when you wake up in the morning, all you have to do is just reheat the soup instead of making it from scratch first thing in the morning. This also includes most banchans. They'll make large portions that will be placed in containers and kept in the refrigerator.

    You got the Aussie breakfast completely wrong. A real Aussie breakfast consist of a Dare iced coffee and a few winnie reds to start the day right.

    As an Aussie I already knew that Australia would loose to S.Korea because of the lack of unique dishes Australia has, especially because our national dish is roast lamb, but at least we still have snags, meat pies, lamingtons and pavlova

    I reckon avo toast deserved her own spotlight. I'd recommend buttering the bread asap after toasting, using the same avo mix you did, and then adding cracked pepper and a bit of chilli oil. I love that recipe so much it's why I don't have enough money for a house 🏡

    You haven't done any of the Balkan countries and as a member of a Balkan country this is a shame. I know everyone forgets them but you too. I think everyone from the Balkans would like to see at least one video. Thanks in advance

    I have lived in Au my whole life and Vegemite is liked by Australia but when people say we eat it with a spoon that is absolutely ridiculous like you said it’s nice but you have to be careful the amount you put. That’s why I cringe when I see Americans eat it like Nutella and then wonder why we like it.

    Though it was pretty clear South Korea was going to win, you completely rigged it in Australia's favour by making it significantly more extravagant then actual Aussie breakfast, which from watching your past videos you seem to rate positively. Real Australian breakfast is just two pieces of white bread toasted for a minute with vegemite, because we have a strong cereal culture so cooking breakfast is uncommon.
