  • In this Ableton Live tutorial, Liam O'Mullane demonstrates the three stages of rendering audio in Live. Crop, Consolidate and Flatten are all covered in this tutorial, with Liam teaching you the differences between the three and breaking down how each stage affects your audio files. You'll learn which rendering option is best for your project and what changes you should bear in mind when it comes to bit depth and sample rate. You'll also learn how to manage files that you have rendered.

Thank you very much for your whole ableton videos.
I find them as a complete beginner unbelievably useful. It is sad to see, that this channel is so underrated. Maybe you should do something to get bigger. It’s a shame that other channels which are really not in your level of teaching, are much bigger. Should really be the other way around.
Maybe do something to get more people here and get a big community. You definitely deserve it.
    Greetings from Germany

Thanks for the explanation. A lot to keep track of.
How do you deal with the tail when flattening a loop? What I mean is:
You have a 1 bar audio clip and it has an echo effect.
When rendering it, it will be longer than 1 bar, since the echo keeps going for a bit.
The problem I have is when I loop it and set it to loop after 1 bar; Then when the loop repeats, it should sound like the echo keeps going (the tail part).
Is there a good way of doing this without creating a massive audio file that renders all the loop repeats?

Ableton Live Tutorials: Crop, Consolidate and Flatten - here we go again with another bug in live suite 11.2.6.
Suddenly, when I selection a sample range (with or without loop brace on) and select start and end points and right click crop is NOT appearing.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Check your record bit depth setting. Anytime you reduce the bit depth, of an audio file or process, there's some noise floor generated due to quantization errors. And since Live's engine works at 32, if your recording bit depth is set to 16 or 24, then technically there's reduction ocurring everytime you consolidate a clip. The noise generated is usually pretty low level, though, so it might be another problem if you're noticing it too much... but it could also be accumulating over several processes... in any case, it's safest to work at 32.

Pretty sure you can set Bit-Depth to 24bit (freeze-flatten) in abletons preferences ....if not this is new to me and huge
