I’m in Canada and looking to pick up a couple for me and my son to use and upgrade to brushless down the road when he gets some practice driving on the brushed setup, but I’m having trouble finding anything here or somewhere that will ship to Canada for a reasonable price.
Looks like Amazon US does international shipping to Canada, so you might want to look into how to do that. Hopefully there isn't some big price upper to do that. The 2995 as a whole car is not in many places anymore.
Thanks! I do feel the 2995 is still one of the best options to get, learn on, then upgrade later. I feel like Amazon is it. You can probably get it but may have higher shipping. Does this link work? amzn.to/3SmvKkh
Brilliant of you to show how longer/wider chassis with best-of components makes such a great truck. Seems a LOT like the HBX 903a, which we've been having a blast with. Welcome your thoughts on what to upgrade on the 903a. I don't want to hurt diffs & gears, so likely staying 2S and stock wheel/tire setup unless you recommend an upgrade path on controller & batteries that fit. Thanks for the great content.
Thanks!! It’s similar to the 903a but shorter in height and length, and not quite as long. Still quite a bit smaller actually except for width so handles way differently. Really the 903a is probably pretty good as it sits. It’s just like the 901a I have but different body. Maybe some better tires as I don’t care for the one sir comes with too much, but I’d say enjoy that one how it is otherwise.
aww yeah! brother Derby puttin my favorite small scale through it's big boy paces. my daughter has recently discovered my 18889 or 188019. whatever. the brushless one. it's a little badass! thanks for the new episode from rogueFactor & family to yours!
Glad you liked it BroFactor!! I think it’s the 18859. Mine didn’t last long lol. Still got it here with a broken rear diff though! If was time for this little dude to grow up! Thanks to you guys From The Derby City family !! 🤘🔥👍
Can you put it on original suspension and wheels and tires? With longer chassis I would like to see if that makes a huge difference in the way it handles
You mean original arms axles and everything, just keep the long chassis? I was going to do that, and I still might, but then they came out with the 2105a which is pretty much exactly that. The review on that car will be out either tomorrow or Saturday
Another great video! So I got this as my first truck and loved it with the bigger tires, buuuttt I destroyed the differential too lol other than replacing it, what other things can I do to really top off this things durability?
Well like on this video I used the hbx 2995 diffs. They work but you may have to swap the diff cups since the axles are smaller. Not actually sure if these diffs are stronger or not but they’re way stronger in the 2995 cuz it has a center diff as well, and that takes a lot of strain of the rest of the drivetrain.
Are the 16889 arms wider than the EC30 arms? I wanted to try to do something similar, but not the extreme width of the 901 arms you used? If the 16889 arms are slightly wider than the EC30’s, I’d do it.
The brushless 903a hd the same chassis as the 901a so may share the same esc as well and for me it delayed on full throttle and not long after it cooked the original esc. Only a 30c battery. Other people have done it with no problem though lol. I’ve heard it both ways pretty equally.
Epic. Such great attention to detail, both on the truck and the video. I picked up one of these little go-getters after seeing your reviews, and have been extremely impressed with it. My stock springs are all leaking and its spinning out real easy now. I want to pimp it out like this with the wider arms and bigger wheels. Seems like the bigger wheels help the most with clearance and general bashability, is it worth getting another set that isn't so grippy, maybe a bit thinner width or harder compound? I'd love to know what the power to weight ratio before and after. Can't wait to see where it ends up!
Thanks!! Yes a couple different sets of wheels would be good. I really like the biggest wheels I used on it, and then the stock small wheels (just not for jumps). The medium ones handle horribly on this lol. Definitely recommend all these upgrades as it’s a blast to drive!
Man you make nice videos, i like your style, plus i love your frankenstein rc car and i am jealous with the good way of course. You must start produce this rc car exactly how you transformed it, i want it exactly how you made it.
Hey, was wondering what is your oppinion on the Rlaarlo 1/12 Brushless Buggy, 80~100 KMH RTR, AM-X12 ? I was choosing between this and Hosim X07 you made a video on. I know they are different. But I am looking for a nice 1/10 basher as well.
@@DerbyCityRC I like the size and durability, still looks like a Flyhal to me. I have the flyhal X03 and wonder if its not the same basis just brushless.
I hear ya, and I should have added that. I just have so many videos on it in stock form it would have felt repetitive for a lot of people. I have a video coming soon with a couple more upgrades on it (better tires and shocks) and it’s so much better! I can link you the initial review of that car if you want to see it stock.
I caught a peek of your ridged stackable tool boxes, I'm in construction and those are one of the best things I've ever bought! No more having to worry about my tools on rainy days in the back of my pickup and no longer need to swap my pickup for a lame van lol. They are great! Oh also very cool video! Are you in a trade as well?
Funny enough I rarely use those boxes. Mainly cuz I’m having trouble deciding what I want to keep in there. A lot of times I just put what I need in it for an outside job if it’s not close to where I have to park. I actually own a handyman business so I do mostly small tasks, though you wouldn’t know it as my garage there is mostly full of work stuff. Quite a few RCs too though!
@@DerbyCityRC yeah I got my kid an rc car for Christmas, just a wal-mart tank drive unit. Adventure force or something, honestly can't remember. Anyway not to sound too paranoid but, I kept telling my girl it was cool and we should get a better one. Then wouldn't you know it your channel pops up... never been happy so about my privacy being invaded constantly lol
So basically it’s a short 901a? I thought most of the parts on the 16890 pro & the 1/12 scale hbx cars look same or just stretched out so is the 1/18 have smaller diffs & spur or same again cause they got 2 diffs & spur metal on sale for $20 lol tks for informative vid
Kind of yes. Much more stable than the 901a and it’s also faster. I believe I got either 23 mph on the 901 when I tested it a while ago. Could have been 26 but definitely wasn’t 28. The 901 and 16889 have some similarities but the 2995 is very different. Glad it was helpful for you!
So Sick!! That stance is epic and looked as if it ran really well. Awesome video, as always! Thank you for all the GREAT content! Can’t wait to see the new toy y’all got! And just a quick question, Do you still play around with the 1/14 scale rlaarlo (mini kraton) at all?? Have you had any servo problems with it yet?
Thanks! Ya it runs great just need to find better shocks and will maybe stick with those bigger tires. The medium ones were way too bouncy. I haven’t fixed the mini Kraton so. E I broke it in my 3s video on it, but I plan to I think. Probably some metal diff housings too, just not sure when.
I keep chewing through these cheap a** diffs. Shearing off the screws that hold the diff box together. I have gone through 4 on mine. The first one broke all 4 screws so evenly, that I wasnt sure what happened, i thought i broke the box itself as they have a spacer ring between the box and the spur. Do they not make a metal box? Even WL toys has metal upgrades.. am I missing something. Am I just that damn hard on my trucks? It's so frustrating, considering the diffs are the only thing keeping me from running it.
That’s interesting I rarely ever break hbx stuff and I’m really tough on them. I don’t think they have a metal box available. The mjx HyperGo models have a lot of reported problems with that, but not these HBXs, so that’s weird and I wish I had a better answer for you!
@Derby City RC I found an aftermarket diff that I should receive in a day or two. The build quality looks better, hopefully it will perform better. I will keep you posted once I get a day or two to bash it to death again and see how it holds up compared to the oem.
@Derby City RC Also wanted to thank you and encourage you to keep doing these off brand cars. I hang my hat on the reviews that you and Talbot do to base my next purchase on. I'm new to the hobby and really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos, all while keeping them entertaining and informative. Thank you!
Thanks I appreciate that. I made a bad purchase on an RC car early on because of what may have been biased reviews so I try real hard to give as much info and honesty as I can. Sometimes bugs and weak spots don’t show up right away but I try!! Thanks again!!
I’ve got a video on it, then another video comparing it to the 2996a. It’s ok, but nothing special in my opinion. If you haven’t seen my video on the new 2997a, I’d recommend checking out that one.
Glad you like it! So I believe the new HBX 2105a has that chassis. I haven’t gotten mine in the mail yet to verify though. So if you can find the chassis for that car, that should work. The 2105a isn’t wide like this build so still better probably 🤣
Curious if anyone has addressed the steering issues with this car? The plastic steering linkage seems to be just really sloppy, along with maybe not so great servos. Or maybe it’s just mine, under full acceleration it veers the left and right so much, and the servo never really returns the wheels back to center.
That’s good to know. I figured it may since it has the metals but I didn’t want to take that one apart. We use it a lot and have plans for that one soon.
I'm brand new to the hobby and your videos are honestly some of the best and most informative. Your editing skills are top notch. I ended up getting a couple amazon special hosim hb17's on sale (brushless mjx hypergo clones?) I already burned out a steering servo on one, do you know of any aftermarket servo that fits the hypergo hosim Chassis? Or is sticking with oem the best bet?
That’s great to hear!! Honestly I’d stick with stock, but that’s mainly cuz I don’t know which aftermarket’s fit yet. Servos don’t seem to be a weak point so maybe yours was weak to begin with. 👍👍
Hey man one other question, i am having a hard time finding batteries that fit the 16889’s compartment. Do you know of any battery with higher capacity that fits? Or any other recommendation perhaps? Thanks a lot
I just picked up the HBX "Flameline" drifter RC and looks like I'll be trying a similar experiment ASAP! Loved this and hope it only gets better. Thanks for the inspiration, also what about the 2995's shox on that bad boy instead?
Awesome! And thanks! The red shocks I have in the 2995 are too long. I tried them on my 901a a while ago and they really didn’t work well, but there are shorter versions of them I’ll measure up or I’ll find a way to get the longer shocks in there. Needs more dampening for sure! That’s the main setback of this project.

Well that stinks, for me it shows 2 day delivery. I’d say just keep checking, I know it’s been available up there before.
You’re welcome!
Do those tired all use the same hex ? Or do you need to use adapters?
Bro the pretzel crisps link killed me 😅😂
Haha! I think you’re the first to ever mention that surprisingly. Just like to throw in dumb stuff from time to time 🤣
Awesome build…but it’s not the HBX 16889A pro anymore😅
Not really 🤣 I renamed it the HBX pro franken-monster!
Badass frankenbuild!
Thanks it was a ton of fun!!
aww yeah! brother Derby puttin my favorite small scale through it's big boy paces. my daughter has recently discovered my 18889 or 188019. whatever. the brushless one. it's a little badass! thanks for the new episode from rogueFactor & family to yours!
Love your channel dude !
Thanks man!!!
Cool stuff!
Thanks!!
Amazing!! What an impressive build!! Modular parts is the main reason I like Arrma.
Thanks man!!
Do you think I could run that longer chassis on the MJX diff and arms? I love my MJX, I just want it to have a longer wheelbase
I believe you could, but haven’t been able to verify yet. 👍
Do you recommend a 1/10 size good parts replacements and solid.
Also speeds?
Are you asking about what I think is a good 1/10 RC car?
@@DerbyCityRC yes if you can recommend thanks
@blaircooper9956 Arrma granite, Arrma vorteks, and Team Associated rival MT10 are probably my favorite 1/10s
@@DerbyCityRC Thanks for this NZD has terrible buying power on these models :(
Another great video!
@@DerbyCityRC that's a good point! I'll definitely check those out. Thanks brotha 🍻
@@DerbyCityRC oh! And keep up the great content. Love your videos
Thanks I will!!!
Are the 16889 arms wider than the EC30 arms? I wanted to try to do something similar, but not the extreme width of the 901 arms you used? If the 16889 arms are slightly wider than the EC30’s, I’d do it.
I’m not sure. If they are wider, it’s not by much. I’ll try to get a measurement soon.
The Mad Max FrankenMonster‼️👍👍🦾🦾😎😎
That’s right!!! 🤣🔥🔥🤘🤘
What bigger wheels and tires work on the hbx ravage pro? Thanks.
The brushed 903 vanguard esc runs great on 3s but dunno about the brushless one
The brushless 903a hd the same chassis as the 901a so may share the same esc as well and for me it delayed on full throttle and not long after it cooked the original esc. Only a 30c battery. Other people have done it with no problem though lol. I’ve heard it both ways pretty equally.
The big tires and a little tires that was awesome
I agree! The mediums were way too bouncy
The whole modifications was awesome
Thanks!
Love the channel, bro! You're getting right up there with Talbot and Tomley, and you're actually a fellow American 😂
Thanks man!!
Born and bred!! 🤣
Epic Video Brother!!
Thanks man! That was a fun one!!
Good idea for RC resurrection, who do you use for parts for the 2995 ?.Thanks for another awesome vid
Thanks!!
Only place I can find 2995 parts is from Haiboxing-hobby.com.
You may have to contact them if the parts you need are not listed
Man you make nice videos, i like your style, plus i love your frankenstein rc car and i am jealous with the good way of course. You must start produce this rc car exactly how you transformed it, i want it exactly how you made it.
Thanks! I’ll see if I can get a factory in the works! 🤣
Gran idea. Ha creado usted el Frankensteincar. Enhorabuena.
Thanks!
I had some fun with an El Toro Loco car recently, I'll have the video up soon!
Sweet!!! I’ll have to see that!
Love the monster builds keep it up
Thanks!
Hard to say cuz I don’t have one. It’s definitely not a basher though. Lol
WhT do you like about the x07?
@@DerbyCityRC I like the size and durability, still looks like a Flyhal to me. I have the flyhal X03 and wonder if its not the same basis just brushless.
No the x03 is a bit bigger. Completely different chassis and everything. 😎
I am interested in this car. it would have been cool to see a before drive with full speed cornering vs the frankentruck
Great video! 👍
Thanks!!
Can you share the part number for the Dragon grip donuts? I can't seem to find them anywhere, thanks
Here ya go!
amzn.to/41sryll
Eh just wanted to say love the channel 🤘 cool project. Your top ten best cheap EC rekindled my interest in the hobby
Thanks!
That’s cool, man! Really glad that video brought you back!! 😃🤘🤘
Haha! That’s great! 😊🔥🔥
I really enjoyed the video but was not really paying attention to it the car looks 👍 with the ones you liked
Lol well I’m glad you enjoyed it 😂
So basically it’s a short 901a?
You are truly insane... I love it!!
Haha! Thanks!! 🤪
Would the 901a differential fit? I cant find the 2995 please lmk
It should fit. I didn’t try it but it looks like it’s all the same size. I mainly went with the 2995 diffs cuz I think they’re a bit stronger.
Great video! Safety first!
Haha! Thanks!
Thank you!
Awesome, thanks!
Thanks I appreciate that. I made a bad purchase on an RC car early on because of what may have been biased reviews so I try real hard to give as much info and honesty as I can. Sometimes bugs and weak spots don’t show up right away but I try!!
Thanks again!!
@Derby City RC what do you think of the hbx903a?
I’ve got a video on it, then another video comparing it to the 2996a. It’s ok, but nothing special in my opinion. If you haven’t seen my video on the new 2997a, I’d recommend checking out that one.
That’s brilliant!
Thanks!
So the 2995 diff fit into the hyper go diff case?
Yup lol.
Just gotta swap diff cups as far as I know.
Solid work with the video style. 😎👍
Much appreciated!! 👍🤘
Man I freakin LOVE this build!!! I wish I could find the EC30 chassis in the US. Do you know of any comparable longer chassis?
Glad you like it! So I believe the new HBX 2105a has that chassis. I haven’t gotten mine in the mail yet to verify though. So if you can find the chassis for that car, that should work. The 2105a isn’t wide like this build so still better probably 🤣
Instead of that why don't you put the body and tyres of hbx to the buggy
😂😂😂😂 I laugh my ass off nice video and I learned a lot looking forward to a new build
Haha! Thanks. More builds on the future for sure!
Can you make a video on sg1201/or udi rc 1202
It comes brushless and brushed
Where can one find it besides Ali?
If Banggood gets it I may be able to snag one.
@@DerbyCityRC i think it is available on banggood
I’ll look for it!
Cool build, that thing is tough as nails 👍🏻
Thanks! Yes it is 👍🔥🤘
Love the build keep up the great work. Maybe a mini e Revo talon tires an wheels
Thanks!! Yes those may work nicely. Still haven’t tried anything else yet but will soon. Been running with those stock 1/16 wheels for now! So fun!
Awesome Evan, great job 👍💯💥
Thanks Dan! Not as cool as your toy grade brushless conversions but it’ll do!!
@@DerbyCityRC I’m digging that build of yours it’s awesome 👍
Thanks. I went in not knowing if it would work or not but turned out great 👍
Frankenstein Spider monster truck! Mate work in HBX would be easy..apply to Losi!or to kyosho to see some really interesting RCs! Great content!👍💪
Thanks!!
Curious if anyone has addressed the steering issues with this car? The plastic steering linkage seems to be just really sloppy, along with maybe not so great servos. Or maybe it’s just mine, under full acceleration it veers the left and right so much, and the servo never really returns the wheels back to center.
If there is slop and failure to return to center, my first assumption would be an issue with a loose servo saver.
Ec30b driveshaft works
That’s good to know. I figured it may since it has the metals but I didn’t want to take that one apart. We use it a lot and have plans for that one soon.
The build of the rc car was sweet
Thanks!
nice! hope we will see a franken MJX too!
Thanks!
Maybe!
Hi nice work and thanks for the video. do you know what pitch/mod is the 14t pinion gear?
Thanks! 😊 these are .6 Mod
@@DerbyCityRC thank you so much
@sooolion9820 you’re welcome!
Hey man one other question, i am having a hard time finding batteries that fit the 16889’s compartment. Do you know of any battery with higher capacity that fits? Or any other recommendation perhaps? Thanks a lot
Another question - can i put oil in the differential or just grease?
Dude thank your for this
You’re welcome!!
Awesome build. Seems like it might be close to a 903a rtr?
Thanks! Actually while it seems pretty close, it’s quite different. Same width, but it’s shorter, lower, faster, and drifts much better lol
@@DerbyCityRC Copy that, looks like a ripper! I ordered my first hbx today. Your videos sealed the deal for me. Thanks
Glad to hear that!!
what if you did something like this with the px toys 9200e
Interesting thought. 🤔 I’ll have a look into it here soon
Hey Derby, I really enjoy watching your videos. Your family is also very nice and funny, but you talk so fast, I had to slow down by 75% to write, because what you say is important! Keep it up😁🤘🏻
Haha yes I do! I’ve tried slowing down just a bit. Trying to lay off the caffeine!
You made a bad ass fake baby Arrma 😂 seriously though this is awesome
Haha, pretty much. 🤣
Thanks!! 🔥👍
Pretty cool dudes 🤠🤙🏼
Thanks! 👍👍🔥🔥
