I just recently found you today and I love your reaction! I only tend to watch reactions that are in the original language that they were meant to be when it is first released, so I'm happy that you're watched the subbed version because the Korean actors are AWESOME and their voices/acting are the main reason why Squid Game is as popular as it is. I saw a reaction of the english dubbed one and it was so incredibly bad that I couldn't keep watching the reaction. It was so bad that the people who were watching the english dubbed one, decided to switch to subbed for episode 2 and the rest of the series. So you made the right choice watched the subbed version in Korean! I can't wait to see more of your reactions to it!
I understand you and agree with you 100%, I’m sure the dubbed version was not as good as the original, but there are people that can’t watch the original because they don’t speak the language, and they cannot read the subtitles. So you have to keep those people in mind, I’m blind so the only way that I can watch this is by watching the English version. And even if it’s not good, I’m glad they did it because if not I wouldn’t have been able to watch the show.
@@felicity7841 Yup, you're totally right! If you have an issue that prevents you from reading subtitles, then dubbed is the way to go! At least you get like 70% of what it's like! That's better than not getting anything at all! I'm just saying that for people who don't watch subtitles bc they are too lazy to read or want to do chores around the house while 'watching' it etc... they should just sit down and make time to watch it bc they are missing out on how good it is if they don't.

And I did find out that I can get I think citizenship if I marry someone but it's not worth it unless I know it is true love and I know that I ain't marrying just for citizenship🙂
@@damikey18 Good thinking! There are a lot of pros and cons in Korea, it's not all good especially for factory workers. I do miss it though, or maybe it's just because I was younger.

Am a Korean. Can confirm that the English translation is shit.
In ep1, the contract sheet states that the players will be "탈락". Netflix translated this into "eliminated" when the word actually means "Out".
It makes way more sense in the original language that the players are completely unsuspecting that they are joining a death game and freaking out when people are dropping left and right.
Now it makes sense why the contestants would be unsuspecting of the word ‘out’ instead of ‘illuminated’. Thanks for the translation! 😊

americans always use unnecessary cuss words as well... i know for a fact that koreans and japanese cuss but they don't cuss THAT much as well... americans like to overdo it.

Hey Suzy for the game you said he might be cheating. It actually isn’t cheating. The way to flip the card is to hit it with the flat side of your card. The protagonist just didn’t throw it right.

The game of "Ddakji" is simple: You have to flip over the card on the floor. The one on your hand is just a means of flipping over the one on the floor so whether the card hand flipped or not doesn't matter.

this man reminds me of my dad. He tries to give me the best gift he could even if he dosen't have enough money to pay anything else. He want me to be happy we rarely see eachother and he apologises for not having good gifts. Just seeing him is the best gift of all.

I still play what’s the time Mr Wolf with my nephews. They love it! I also have SJN which is a card game my cousins and I used to play. Basically it’s like snap but you wait for a Royal. If you put a Royal the next person has to put down cards. If they put down a specific number of non Royal cards then you get the cards. The goal is to have all the card. Ace is four non Royal cards, king is three, queen is two, Jack is one
Everyone knows what is the korean traditional play after seeing K drama. I did not expect that much but I am proud of Korean actors so much!!
I looked it up, and 100,000 Korean Won is about $85 USD. That says even more about how deep in debt our protagonist is, that he would spend who knows how long playing a game with a stranger over the promise of $85

Here are some cultural context that may make your viewing more enjoyable. Some are for future episodes.
1.circle, triangle, and squares have always been used in Korean primary schools for grading: below average, average, above average.
2. The candy is something you would have seen at playgrounds where a vendor makes this for kids. And if you are able to cut it out without breaking, then you get one for free.
3. Ali's "thank you" is something he as a foreigner must have caught on to. Koreans love people who are grateful and polite. You can get far with Koreans if you are grateful.
4. Due to our horrific history, criminal japanese occupation for nearly 40 years, being generous with one another was the only way to survive their tyranny (genocide). So sharing with those less fortunate is very cultural for us. Not so much these days but generally speaking, yes.
5. Kang, Saebyuk; pickpocket girl is a North Korean defector. She escaped with her parents and younger brother but dad was killed in the process, mom got caught. If pickpocket girl is in Seoul, most likely she and her brother had to first go through China. According to stories from past defectors, the chinese treat them horribly when they find out that they are defectors because they are on the run. Rape, abduction, slavery, torture, beatings, murder is very common. If they can somehow survive that and somehow find their way to South Korea, they are mistreated again because of little support system and also being suspected of being spies. She would thus also have to live amongst the low-lives in the South. So pickpocket girl is a character to be sympathized with. She is the way she is because that's all she has had to do in order to survive. Her name "Saebyuk" means "dawn".
6. The constant "Seoul National University" mention is also a Korean thing. SNU is considered to be one of the best universities in South Korea. Koreans treat you like gods if you are a graduate. Unfortunately, lately, most of our nation's biggest crooks are SNU graduates; lawyers, politicians, judges, businessmen and even university professors. Our prisons aren't full of the usual low-lives but SNU grads. SNU doesn't seem to attract the principled and ethical types these days. This series is making fun of that. Overall, the series is commenting on how in South Korea, the worst people in modern days are the super rich and SNU grads.
7. The household debt situation in Korea is a major issue. Especially with our current crooked president and administration, the divide between the poor and rich has become even larger within just 5 years where most people cannot afford to buy a home while the rich buy multiples. The success of Korean culture globally is also contributing to this because, all day long in social media, the poor see the rich living awesome lives while they struggle to just get by. So they borrow from loan sharks because the banks only give out loans to the already rich. The hunger of the poor is not about spending money they don't have, but providing for their children; best education, clothes, food, etc. so that they don't get discriminated in school and also in the hopes that their children can have a better future. Gi-hun punches the stepdad because of his pride. It's a tough life and a hard hit to your ego if you are poor in Korea.
