    Refrigerator Control Jazz Board: amzn.to/3rYK3i2
    Fridge Thermometer: amzn.to/31FOdkl
    I was having a problem with a warm refrigerator but at the same time, the bottom freezer was staying cold. What I found was that continual frost build up was blocking the cold air duct from entering the top fridge section. The frost kept growing on the freezer evaporator coils until ice filed the duct that supplies cool air to the fresh food compartment. And even though the compressor was running, the refrigerator was warm.
    My temporary solution was to unplug the fridge once a week for 10 to 12 hours to defrost it. But as you can imagine that was extremely inconvenient on my Jenn Air fridge. The problem was caused by a bad circuit board that wasn't initiating the automatic defrost. In this video, I'll show you step-by-step how to remove and replace the main circuit board that runs my Jenn Air fridge. The main control board, also called a Jazz board is located inside the housing for the temperature controls.
    But I encourage you to watch this video all the way through before attempting your own repair. That way you're familiar with the entire process before starting on your own fridge. I had to detach the entire upper cover to get to the Jazz board. Start with a flathead screwdriver and gently start prying down along the front of the seam and on the sides. Just insert a screwdriver or plastic tool to wedge these loose.
    Don't forget to unplug the fridge before starting. Then detach the wiring harness. With the panel out, it's easier to separate the main cover and the control section. To detach the larger wire harness on the circuit board, squeeze the tab underneath while pulling straight out. Now unplug the smaller harness. Then there's one more sensor to remove.
    The Jazz board is the brain of my Jenn Air fridge and t controls every function including defrost which is the cause of my warm fridge problem. At this point, we're done with the most difficult steps! I ordered a new circuit board from Amazon and at about $40, it was quite a bit cheaper than original manufacturer parts. Which by the way were listed at over $170. This Jazz board works in my Jenn Air as well as many Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana refrigerators.
    Comparing the new board with my old one, it looks similar enough but the new unit ships as one piece. So before installing this, locate the seam scored through the length of the plastic. When I push my thumbs in the center and gently pulling up the sides with my fingers, the circuit board will fold and eventually detach.
    Now remove the old circuit board by gently lifting the center locking tab to release the upper part. Then do the same for the other part. At this point, I can start reversing the entire process. After everything is back in place, the new circuit board still needs to be programmed. Here's how to do it.
    First, locate the fridge code found inside the refrigerator compartment. Then plug the fridge back in, it seems like it's running but I can't just leave it like this. To program the new circuit board hold down the door switch. Then press the freezer down button three times within 10 seconds and release the switch. The display now says P E to indicate we're in programming mode. Now press the freezer down button once. The display now shows zero zero. Here, use the fridge and freezer up buttons to enter the refrigerator code from the sticker. To lock in this setting, press and hold the freezer down button until the numbers start flashing. Then finish by pressing the door switch once and now the fridge will operate normally.
    At just over a week, I can confirm that the defrost system has been working and the fridge compartment has been staying cool like normal. You can order the same replacement circuit board I used by looking down in the description.
    Replacing the main circuit board can be intimidating but if you follow along with my video, I have confidence that you can do this yourself! If this video was helpful please give me a thumbs up and hit the subscribe button to stay up to date on all my DIY repair videos!

    Tip ! Allways work with warm plastic. If you try and bend cold or near frozen tabs they will snap off. In some cases it is helpful to even "blow dry" warm the part you are working on.

    Try this to get the freezer working again. I have an LG Top-Bottom Fridge that was having the same trouble. Compressor and exterior fan were working fine but the freezer was not cooling. I removed the front interior trim of the freezer and saw that the evaporator fan was not working. I carefully unscrewed it from the housing frame behind the trim and checked the resistance and continuity on the wire connector which were excellent. Now I've seen repairmen who would just tell you to replace the fan but at that time of day that was not an option. Having done this before with a standing fan, I realised that all this fan wanted was a cleaning and lubricating of the magnets and impeller respectively. Eventually over time with these two there is a build up of dirt, and rust in some cases, which must be cleaned and so here is where WD 40 is your best friend. I used some of this on a paper napkin to wipe the two surfaces after which I used some treadmill silicone oil, you can use something similar, on the curved surface of the impeller as well as the shaft and end joint housing. I reinstalled the evap fan and plugged it in. Not only did it spin, but it spun faster than before. Also, make sure you clean the plastic fan blade which should just pop off the impeller shaft. I placed mine under the faucet and used some dishwashing soap. Hope this tip helps someone to save some time and money. 😀

      You’re welcome! It’s nice you have the same fridge model! Makes following the instructions easier! I’m glad you were able to do the repair yourself and save money! With some the other appliance repairs I’ve done I’m surprised how inexpensive the parts are. In the past I’ve called repairmen to do this kind of work on appliances who charge hundreds to do this. Now I always look up a tutorial and try to do repairs myself. My thought is if a repairman can do it so can I! Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for this. This appears to be the issue with our 2004 JennAir fridge. I unplugged it for a day, cleaned it well, plugged it back in, and it’s working fine…for now. I’d like to order a JAZZ board just in case. Our fridge has double doors on top. But otherwise it looks just like yours. Think the board is the same? Best regards.

    • @digitalcamproducer
      @digitalcamproducer  2 года назад +1

      Even though I can’t see your fridge I’m pretty sure the jazz board should be the same in your fridge with the different door configuration. If it has the dual number display on it then it should be the same part. Of course I’m not a professional fridge repair guy but I hope this helps! The fridge in this video has continued to run normal ever since I changed the circuit board. I leave a thermometer in the fridge and can tell it is working great! Thanks for watching!

    Would it help to keep the freezer door open while defrosting, and or use a blow dryer at the same time. Not sure if this would affect the thermostat that already in long defrost mode. I am about to remove the light bulb so it doesn’t burn out. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Wow, wonderful instructions Thank you for taking the time out to help so many. Question, please. The programming, what is for? Different models?. If I buy it on Amazon do you think it will come with this programming guide? Sorry to bother you. You indicated a sticker number. Is this the sticker number on the refrigerator tag? By the way, I did the manual defrost cycle and it worked.

    I was having the exact same issue with my Jenn-Air french door refrigerator and replacing the jazz board seems to have corrected the frost build up issue, but now both my compartments are running super cold. The refrigerator section is running at 30-32 degrees. Any thoughts?

    • @digitalcamproducer
      @digitalcamproducer  2 года назад

      I’m sure you’ve adjusted the temperature control? Even at the highest setting your fridge is still that cold? The fridge I repaired in this video constantly runs about 32-34 degrees on the thermometer I’ve set inside. This is with the temperature control set in the middle position. If your fridge is too cold maybe you cold pearly block one of the air vents in the sidewall. Don’t completely block it though. At your temps are things freezing in the fridge?

    Question: I have a Jenn air fridge, had warm air in fridge and not cooling. The control board doesn’t lower temp, it stays same. Noticed compressor wasn’t on so replaced starter relay and cleaned coils as well and it’s still warm (but now I hear the compressor which stays on for hours). No ice build up and I can hear fan too, but it’s still warm after 12 hours with compressor running full on. Do you think is thermostat or control board? I appreciate your help

      I’m not a fridge expert so I can’t offer too much help other than what I did to fix my fridge. I just searched different articles to narrow down the solution for me. You’ve probably done a bunch of searching already. Here’s a page I found with other parts that could be checked in your fridge: howtofixit.net/why-is-fridge-compressor-running-but-not-cooling/

    Hey there question! Do you think this could be my problem. Today i woke up and both my fridge and freezer were way to hot! I was trying to put it to a cooler setting but it kept going back to the wrong setting

    • @digitalcamproducer
      @digitalcamproducer  2 года назад +1

      I’m not an appliance repair person so I’m not sure. If both your fridge and freezer are warm/hot then maybe your compressor isn’t working. When you plug it in do you hear anything running? I was gonna ask if you have ice build up but probably not if both sides of your refrigerator are hot. There could be a problem with the thermostat but in my “amateur” opinion your problem may not be the circuit board. Sorry I’m not more help!

    So I assume there is no timer motor. Did you check the heater wire on the coil on cooling coil? Someone mentioned a reset. Is that in the video

    • @digitalcamproducer
      @digitalcamproducer  Год назад

      I didn’t see a timer motor but I have seen videos that talk about that. I actually didn’t check anything else on this fridge because I knew it was mostly working except for the frost build up. It ran fine for at least a week every time I forced it to defrost. So I only changed the main circuit board. And that fixed this fridge. Still running at the correct temps and no frost build up ever since. I also made a video on how to force defrost. That might be the reset you’re taking about? You can watch my other video here: ruclips.net/video/JzYiOXmNR7k/видео.html

      @@digitalcamproducer Interesting fact I learned that the fridge won't let the defrost cycle run if above 47. I had noticed my temperature was 47 up top and 20 in freezer. I started adjusting numbers and for a few days had it 40 and -5. So then I went the other way and I was over adjusting too fast and then got it to warm and think by then it had not been running defrost for a few days
      I manually defrosted it a few days ago and it seems OK. So I may have caused problem.
      Didn't learn about the easy way to defrost till RUclips.
      Only time will tell. Thanks for sure on your video and getting back. You're a good person for sure.

    refrigerator wasnt cooling, freezer was cold but i didnt see huge amount of ice, i could see white ice on the coil thru the little slotted hole... i tried to defrost with the Long setting 3 times in the last 2 hours and the refrigerator seem to be cooling again now. is the problem related to this main board ? i mean if setting the defrost manually fix the problem, the "timer" or the brain that does that cycle isnt working properly? am i on something ? maybe i am totally wrong. ill try defrosting every 4hrs or so manually until im sure on something lol great video!

    • @digitalcamproducer
      @digitalcamproducer  28 дней назад +1

      It’s been awhile since I did this repair. But the fridge in the video had ice that kept forming in the space where air from the freezer travels to the fridge compartment. Something was wrong with the defrosting. I took a gamble and got a new control board. And this fridge has not had a frost problem ever since. I didn’t test anything else but the new circuit board definitely fixed the problem I had.

    • @digitalcamproducer
      @digitalcamproducer  23 часа назад

      Actually you shouldn’t have to wait. As long as the ice behind the back panel has been defrosted you shouldn’t have any issues with the temperature. Mine has been working for years no problem after the circuit board replacement. However there may be some other parts that need to be checked. Luckily the circuit board fixed my problem.
