Thanks for the video. I got a used fridge where the freeze was fine but the fridge was warm. I went through your video and everything checked out till I got to fan in the freezer. Someone the bolts that held the motor together got broken. I thought maybe it got put down hard when someone moved it. The fan could turn on occasion but not always. I took it apart and got the broken bolts out. Luckily they stuck out enough to grab with vicegrips. I found replacement metal screws at home depot. All back together and now the fan turns great.

Got searching for my defrost timer for 2 hours long until I realised theres no one in my refrigerator since it works with an electronic panel... 😂😂😂 You should definitely add this detail in your video!
This video may be older, but the information is good. I hit the cold control area & my refrigerator (as you suggested) immediately started getting cold again. Something so simple and it worked. Now when the repair person comes out, I'll be well informed. Thanks for posting the video, such a great help!
This video is very helpful. The presenter is very clear and concise and the video has good audio, video and story. It helped me diagnose the problem on my fridge/freezer as a defective defrost thermostat. That was on a Magic Chef fridge from 1992.
Hello, you guys always do great informative videos. My evaporator coils are very clean no frost at all. Is that a bad thing? Since the temp in the fridge would get too warm I thought they'd be clogged, but just the opposite. The evaporator fan works. The evaporator's heater coil did not get hot after the compressor stopped, but could that mean the sensor is timed and it just wasn't time? The compressor fan works. The compressor works and will run continuously until the fridge is very cold. But the compressor and lines seem to get very hot (maybe too hot?) as the copper tubes are hot as hell and there's only one that is somewhat cool, or just not too hot. I thought one tube was supposed to be pretty cold to touch. After the fridge gets very cold down to 30, it will not click on again to remain cold until it gets past 60F. I want to eliminate problems step by step without fixing something (replacing parts) that are maybe just fine. P.S. where to get a copy of the "tech sheet" you refer to often in the video?
Quick question I've always tested the heaters with ohms. I've never heard of just testing them with continuity as they can still have it and be out of range with ohms
I have a MayTag refrigerator like this one and recently I just noticed that there is freezing inbetween the door and the side against where the door closes on the freezer side, this makes opening the freezer door a little bit dificult when opening it.Also there is water droping at the inner top of the refrigerator side. What could be the cause of these faults and what can I do to get them fixed. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
that was so in depth but I don't have the time to find the cause I need the fridge running so I'll buy one but I will experiment with it following your instruction and try to repair it myself so I may be able to do something in the future thanks
I found the defrost cycle thermostat has failed. I would also like to check the defrost timer. but I can't find it on my Kenmore Elite, Model 596.76253701. Not in the control module, not behind the kick-plate and not with the compressor down back? Anyone know if some models have an all-electronic timer? Or where it might be? Great video otherwise -- short and to the point -- and clear as a bell. I'll get my parts here for sure.
Great descriptions and sequence of trouble shooting. On our kitchenaid KRFF305E Evap coils were frozen from half way up to the top(topr 3" in solid ice, bottom 3" clear) , freezer temp sensor housing was full of ice, and the lines going to the WVAP coils were frozen in a large block of ice. Fan is working. I defrosted the evap coils, fridge freezer was working- looking OK, but within a day noticed frost building on the temp sensor housing. Can't seem to find the Defrost timer(nor can i find a part number in the parts manula) ( is it all controlled by a circuit board? or is the defrost timer buried in the digital control panel at the top of the fridge Rob

Your video was wonderful, except for my refrigerator there is no defrost timer. Also it would be wonderful to have a tutorial on working the onboard diagnostics, which are difficult to understand. Thanks
@@appliancepartspros I actually figured out the onboard diagnostics after I wrote that. It's Whirlpool, WRS325SDHW01. The freezer is too warm and when I take off the back panel there is a block of ice all over the wire harness and stuff that sits above the evaporator. Not much ice on the evaporator itself. Doing the diagnostics I was able to verify that the heater does get hot, the evap fan runs, and it passed all the tests. So I defrosted off the ice with a steamer and called a repairman because I think I'm over my head at this point. All this computerized crap makes it hard to fix stuff.
@@appliancepartspros I forgot to add, I did test the temperature sensor and the heater for continuity as you directed, and both of them showed no continuity, but then when I saw the heater does heat up, I figure I must have somehow done it wrong because it does work.

My old, maybe 15 year old side by side, just got a new timer, heater and thermostat replacement and is working like new again. I said replace all three as who knew when one of the three would next go bad. It was a failed heater lamp that iced up the freezer and resulted in a hotter than it should be refrigerator section. Yes the repair was expensive, but cheaper than a new side by side.

Hi Old Male 75 yrs Pensioner here from Australia. Just watched your Video. I have a Upright Freezer / Fridge - NEC - Fresh Multi-Flow possibly 2009 yr. Being working alright. I overloaded to top Freezer and it stopped freezing. I removed all from the back compartment so the Vents could operate. At that stage the Fridge compartment was working. But now the Fan in the Freezer section is working and food is frozen, BUT OMG the Fridge compartment is not cooling? I have removed the rear bottom cover which was caked in fluff and inside I thoroughly vacuum all out. But with no avail still no cooling to the Fridge section. I have a kenmore fridge/ freezer model 111.73025711 the freezer worked fine but the refrigerator top was not cooling so after looking at the control Board had a burnt spot so I replaced it and it burnt again what do you think is going on ?
Try this to get the freezer working again. I have an LG Top-Bottom Fridge that was having the same trouble. Compressor and exterior fan were working fine but the freezer was not cooling. I removed the front interior trim of the freezer and saw that the evaporator fan was not working. I carefully unscrewed it from the housing frame behind the trim and checked the resistance and continuity on the wire connector which were excellent. Now I've seen repairmen who would just tell you to replace the fan but at that time of day that was not an option. Having done this before with a standing fan, I realised that all this fan wanted was a cleaning and lubricating of the magnets and impeller respectively. Eventually over time with these two there is a build up of dirt, and rust in some cases, which must be cleaned and so here is where WD 40 is your best friend. I used some of this on a paper napkin to wipe the two surfaces after which I used some treadmill silicone oil, you can use something similar, on the curved surface of the impeller as well as the shaft and end joint housing. I reinstalled the evap fan and plugged it in. Not only did it spin, but it spun faster than before. Also, make sure you clean the plastic fan blade which should just pop off the impeller shaft. I placed mine under the faucet and used some dishwashing soap. Hope this tip helps someone to save some time and money. 😀
