R.I.P Norm Spencer. The voice of Cyclops.
And David Hemblen, voice of Magneto. And John Colicos, original voice of Apocalypse. And Don Francks, voice of Sabretooth. And Len Carlson, voice of Senator Kelly. We've lost a lot of the cast.
@@sabishiihito we also lost Kirby Morrrow, who plays Cyclops from X-Men Evolution. Damn, we lost two Cyclops from 2020.
@@Silent_Fool 😥
So sad 😞
Dude was great voicing Cyclops in the VS games
Wolverine: "THIS ONE'S FOR YOU MORPH!!!!" *slices Sentinel's head open*
My FAVORITE line in the entire series!
"I go...where I wanna go."
Soldier boy here left him behind!
Xmen don't cut and run!
How come we get to trash your old enemy?
"Tell Scott I made him a convertible."
Wolverine takes Morphs death so hard and nobody else gives 1 single shit. It's so unintentionally funny.
@@JMan1380 ooooh that's a good one too!
Andre: that morph! Can’t wait to see what he does next!!
Me: Andre noooo don’t do that 😭
he gonna do one thing and one thing only
He actually does come back to life because of Mr. Sinister and has a split-personality to battle.
He gets better...sort of.
I do wish he returned to the team earlier than the last episode and the one filler episode where he goes on a mission again... Though I could tell that he wasn't returning anytime soon due to him not being in the intro...
90s was a great time for superhero cartoons .
"How did you do that?"
"With style, petit, with style."
Still one of my favorite Gambit lines.
Mine too lol.
That and “ dont worry chere your insurance can handle it” are my favorites 💀
As a kid, my mom didn't want me to watch the X-Men cartoon because she thought Beast was "a devil". As an adult, we watched the live action movies and she LOVED Beast because he was played by her crush, Kelsey Grammar XD
Full circle.
"Identify yourself!"
"Of course. NOT!"
The only time in the whole series they used a NOT joke and it worked perfectly...
@@benjovi356 yeah Cyclops is exactly the wooden kinda guy who would have trouble pulling off a good joke. The only part that makes it weird is there was nobody around to hear him.. but then given that plan, it turns out everyone probably did hear.
I would like to make this a regular thing, so what's ONE RETRO TV SHOW (animated or live action) you'd like to see me do this with. Only write one per comment in case I want to use the comments in future videos.
Mummies alive. It was one of my favourites growing up. Not a recommendation but you ever going to talk about big bad beetleborgs ?
Samurai Pizza Cats- It's so weird and wacky, I can imagine it being something you'd enjoy.
My little pony.
When your so early even the dislike trolls haven't came by
I’d like to see you cover A Pup Named Scooby Doo.
Gargoyles please. I loved the complex storylines, Shakespeare references, voice work from several Star Trek alum, and some instances of "mature for a cartoon".
How some of that got past censors is still surprising to me, but made the show much better for it.
Sega Genesis game is pretty damn good. Received a 5.0 fun factor in Gamepro..
I know I'm late to this, but this is what I came to say. Gargoyles, definitely Gargoyles. (But not the Goliath Chronicles.)
Oh my gosh, yes! Especially The Eye of the Beholder episode!
"THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, MOORPH!!!"
I watched X-Men in the 90's. When I told my fellow sailors, one of them teased me for watching cartoons. (I was 30 years old in 1992.) My response was "It's not a cartoon! It's an animated action series!" I will always remember that.
I wonder what Andre thinks about the X-Men series on Netflix
Yo mans got sponsored by Disney! Movin up in the world! Congrats my man.
Thanks for supporting and understanding.
@@BlackNerdComedy I would like to ask how you get this gigs but maybe I sould go and find that out myself.
As i see anything is possible on youtube just gotta go about it the right way. just good to be connected to right tags or labels anytime.
You gotta do the same for the 90’s Spider-Man series!
Every male in the Spiderman series looked like they were hitting the weight bench on the regular
@@KatieLHall-fy1hw the first words out those characters mouths should have been, "Yeah..., I lift, bruh!"🤣
Definitely!! My little brother and I would rewatch it everyday on Jetix, it was one of the few shows we actually both loved
Spider man and his amazing friends... no I’m not old and yes I like it. I love 90’s but that god damn fight and punch restriction is hard when you get older.
“People fear what they don’t understand.”
Disney’s Gargoyles was also great at hitting home that message. :)
This show in a nutshell: “Jean!” “Scott...” *Storm faints*
Prof x screams "AHHHHH!"
Storm: "I summon the... AHHHHH!"
Rogue: Sugah!
Gambit: Cher, Mon Ami
Wolverine: *grumble* "bub"
Fun fact: originally Stan Lee himself wanted to introduce each episode of this show, but the producers felt it would ruin the dark, serious tone of the show if each episode began with this nice old man telling you what mutants are, so they had to politely dissuade Stan from anchoring the show.
Might have been the right call. I do like the Pryde of the X-Men how he was a voice there but for everyone? No.
Atleast he was able do cameos in the movies when those was made at time.
One that might be popular is Batman: The Animated Series.
That was a really good show
A series that was hugely influenced by the Fleisher Brothers Superman theatrical shorts, Alex Toth & Jack Kirby, Golden, Bronze age comics and the Burton films.
It’s currently on HBOMAX
That would be on HBO MAX since all the DC movies and shows
Might be ....it’s my favorite animated show ever
Morph, the one guy on Earth who didn't know that Wolverine is basically immortal
Ya, he should have taken Wolverine's healing factor into account, but I guess, in fairness, back then it wasn't as OP as it is nowadays.
Wolverine’s healing factor wasn’t originally that OP, and I think the writers purposely wrote Wolverine with his 70s and early 80s healing factor.
Is morph able to obtain the powers of the mutants he changes into, though? Would be pretty OP if so.
@@thefroyukenfiles3641 Only if the mutant's powers are a distinct part of their body, like Angel with his wings. He can't turn into Wolverine and just have Wolverine's healing factor.
@@Jordacar Now could he get past that by changing into Rogue and taking Wolvie's powers or is not having access to Rogue's ability also a limitation?
Wolverine: "I'm practically invincible."
Morph: "And I'm two weeks away from retirement!"
The theme song made me and my siblings go crazy. You ran in the sat your a-- down and stfu. No talking during the show...lol 😆
I remember Pizza Hut gave away VHS tapes for this show as a promotion. I ate a lot of pizza.
RIP cyclops voice actor also rogue in this 😏👌🏾
Sugah.
@@BlackNerdComedy ha ha 😅 apocalypse ain't slick he wasn't just trying to take over the world
They have never done Rogue right in amy live action in my opinion, or Storm 😐😐😑😐
@@ENTERTAINMENT-tc3uq I sadly agree. This series really mad Rogue one of my favorite X-Men. This series had some of my favorite X-Men in it although I prefer Shadowcat over Jubilee.
IT not easy to cast when transition from shows to movies anytime so gotta enjoy the toons while u watch it anytime. cant blame cast cause they did their job , blame those who do the casting and didnt try find people to play the part. some of the casting was good and rest as i read didnt go so good for any reason.
That theme is still the best theme of any Marvel cartoon, at the time
Hell yeah! It's an absolute banger
The only one that comes close is the Iron Man second season theme.
Doesn't everyone know and love the feeling of rewatching an old show you really liked, or also a show you just haven't watch in a long time, and watching it all over from the start?😄
Its even better when its still good.
@@Smokey1419 Can't deny that😉
And when you have a convergence of nostalgia and quality..., what a feeling!
@@lawrencerinehart5747 Same here, I totally agree!😄
Absolutely. That’s among the finer things in life. 🥰🦔🦔
I was just thinking how it would be cool to see you do a show like this. Although I think you shouldn't limit yourself to just cartoons. It'd be cool to see episodes about 80s/90s sitcoms (Family Matters, Family Ties, Etc.)
If this becomes a regular thing, everything is fair game ;)
@@BlackNerdComedy bro I usually only did Tyler Perry content, but my followers got me reviewing The Bachelor this year...I'm branching out myself and it feels kind of nice! Always, wanted you to do a series on Family Matters. I got into a HUGE debate with my roommate last year about why I'm not an Urkel fan like I used to be. To see you talk about Urkel would be something else!
VCRs omg so nostalgic miss the good old days before 2020.
"Can't wait to see what Morph does next" - Andre.... ME: "Oh no he doesn't know...."
"MMMMOOOORRRRPH!"
He knows......
This is the show that activated my geek gene. It was love at first sight when I saw Jubilee, and then I saw Storm and Rogue. 🥰 I think there was somebody for everybody in this series. I forgot Morph died...or did he? I need to give this series a rewatch.
Morph was actually Michael Jackson's favorite X-Men.
I'm not kidding.
He did an internet Q&A in the 90's and said Morph is his favorite (after seeing the Black or White video, I'm not surprised.)
The theme song alone makes this show X-tremely amazing
Wolverine had the coldest line Saturday morning cartoon history. After he punched Cyclops in the stomach then said "Next time I'll use these" and sticks out his claw. I still remember that to this day
"Classic Morph..."
Oh, Andre 😂😭😂😭😂😭
Missed opportunity for one of the characters to say “Perhaps you could *Morph* into something useful!”
I starting watching X-Men TAS recently thanks to my friend letting me use his Disney+ account.
Now, I see why people loved this iconic masterpiece.
In this house we stan Wolverine and all his anger issues
The intro music was the best on this show! Whenever someone mentions X-Men anything I start singing it, lol
This and Spider Man were the best Marvel shows on Fox Kids IMO. Not to mention they had a crossover episode.
Nightcrawler was a cool character but only appeared in one episode. Plus even Deadpool made a Cameo appearance in X-men TAS.
Yeah Deadpool did make a appearance via, Morph transforming into him.
Just another reason growing up in the 80's/90's was so awesome. the shows were so good and we got dark gritty serious shows.
People died in the 90's cartoon shows
Oh shit they so did!
Truly the golden age of kids television.
How about Spider-Man and his amazing Friends. I'm old. 😆lol
Cliff Colter, thanks. I'm old too. I remember watching that show too.
Pirates of Dark Water was a great show! Short lived and didn't get to finish its overall story arc, but very creative and fun!
I still remember watching this as a kid, god I love the 90s X-MEN animated series!
Rewatch this with my son. Still one of the best shows I ve ever seen
Cal Dodd IS Wolverine. Anyone after him just sounds like they're doing a bad throaty voice.
@@somerandolad same here
Steve Blum tho...
@@somerandolad Bloom is good but I always felt like he was trying to do Solid Snake as Wolverine, where Dodd comes off more as Wolverine for me
I rather liked Scott McNiell's take in X-Men Evolution.
Cal Dodd and the guy who voices him in the marvel ultimate alliance games are my favorites
I recently rewatched Beast Wars. It was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Would love a video on that.
I go where I wanna go.
Out the way Gumbo.
i hope those sentinels paid for the goddamn damages to that MALL
🤣 this is GREAT! The hubs and I just watched season 1 episodes 1-3. We were dying at how Wolverine kept getting shut down with their mission and everyone doing it for him when he tried. 😆
Sign me up for Andre recapping every Xmen episode
"Hey! Tin woodsman! I'm sending you back to Oz! In Pieces." - Wolverine
Andre my man I am binge watching X-Men too. This show ended a year after I was born so I didn’t get to see it. I saw some episodes on demand when I was a kid and I was hooked and wanted more. I’m on episode 5 of season 1, so if you want to review the first season I would love that video. RIP, Morph.
So, while I think X-Men Evolution is an overall more enjoyable show with better animation, this one certainly deserves to be remembered as Gen Y's first real look at these characters and helping them maintain their popularity. And also THE definitive theme song.
P.S. PLEASE continue Spectacular Spider-Man!
Gen-X
You gotta watch the anime openings of the 90s X-Men cartoon. They're really good.
I've seen them, yeah they are wild!
Just looked around and saw it was a good or cool change for the intro showing some of other characters of marvel by chance as well.
Yay! Yes, please do more of these. The 90s X-Men cartoon was badass. I also love Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. 🙃 And I’ve been having the same experience, re-watched BTAS, JL and JLU , and now in the middle of rewatching X-Men and definitely enjoy even more now as a huge hell of an adult than I did when I was younger. Good stuff! 👍🏻
Yes make this a regular thing please 👍😊 I don't have any retro shows, but I would love for you to review X-Men: Evolution, that was my favorite X-Men show
Yesssss evolution is so underrated!!!!!
Sadly for those of us who were in double-digits by the time Evolution came out, 2000 was 21 years ago - meaning it IS technically "Retro" now.
When Saturday morning Fox Kids was king. I got into the Phoenix Saga hard. The absolute best was the "crossover" between X-Men and Spider-Man on Spider-Man TAS. What a time to be an almost teenager.
Hey andre Can you review Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law since Adult Swim is Taking forever with giving Birdgirl a release date
Whenever I watch X-Men I always get excited. I was 8 or 9 when I first watched it, I was a big comic book nerd back in 2009. My mom’s ex boyfriend used to let me watch his dvd collection of the X-Men cartoon when we would visit.
I may have not fully understand what X-Men was back then but I still loved it. The Phoenix Arc being my favorite arc in the entire show.
I still love X-Men to this day so when it got on Disney plus I watched it non stop.
Killer Cartoon Still Holds Up Today!!
X-Men has always been my favorite comic book property
I remember liking the 90’s crossover of the X-men with Spiderman but I grew up with a bit. I was introduced to the X-men by the 1st movie & X-Men Evolution cartoon
I loved X-Men Evolution was also one of my favorites.
@@ladykissthevelvet21 that show did bring in the best character for me X-23
@@ladykissthevelvet21 X-Men Evolution is one of my favorites as well
This brings back so many happy memories. I may well have to also watch the series from start to finish too lol. I think it was between this and both the Spider-Man and Batman Animated Series that really got me into Comic Culture and helped shape me into the Happy Nerd I am today :D
Meanwhile we in Sweden DESPERATLY need Marvel animated shows thats before 2005 on our version of Disney+, we have none of the 90s shows and I am sad because of it...But hey Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes is pretty darn good atleast...
Can't you use a VPN service to get around that or did D+ find a way to detect it?
Awesome video my man, love the commentary on the Storm speech, “People fear what they don’t understand.”
Now I was a fan of the X-Men since the early 80’s as I was a fan of the comic, but man I love the series, it captured the attitude of the era so perfectly and was a major introduction of the X-Men to a lot of people.
I'm still waiting for another storm to shout out her attacks again
This was one of the most wonderful episodes I've seen on this channel! More of this please! Great work!
Cyclops is still the coolest and dumbest x man in this series.
Used to love him but other versions kinda made him look dumb
Hate they made him a bad guy in the comics for a while.
He had a great moment in one episode of Wolverine and the X-men.
And he was cool in the X-men Anime.
@@dingle2987 Kind of part of the issue I can never in-depth get into the comics. They'll always change stuff up, according to the writer.
my favorite version is Astonishing X-Men, and lots of good moments in 90s animated
One of the all-time greatest cartoon superhero theme songs ever made.
I really, really, really wish to see the MCU X-Men in the 90s costumes and hear an orchestra version of the 90s animated series as the main theme.
I doubt that will happen, but it would be a cool callback if they did.
@@Silverstar_
Same here.
This and the spider-man animated series were my childhood
This show was groundbreaking it was still very kinda adult for 12-13 yr old. When the show gave the season finale i would go crazy like a part of my soul had been ripped out until the next season.
Spider-Man the Animated Series next! It was my first introduction to Marvel.
X-Men was truly something special unique for television! The first premier came after America's Most Wanted for us in Colorado and again on Halloween night. My mom actually watch the show with me and had a huge crush on Wolverine saying he might be my daddy one day! Hahaha which would have been cool!
All of the women of the X-Men were my favorite!
"SWEET SATURDAY MORNING GOODNESS!" needs to be a t-shirt.
X-Men was so ahead of it's time, it had a woman as President of the United States.
I’m a 90 kid and I really enjoyed the x Men tv shows that they have
As much as I liked this cartoon back in the 90s. The final season of X-Men got cheap and lazy. The animation style looked bad and the voice acting was terrible.
We don’t speak about that season.
it was originally written to end at season 4. but this was when marvel were in financial trouble so full control went to saban who then slashed the budget, sent half the animation to a cheap studio in the philippines and kept going.
Dam atleast i able get the start of series and try be aware how the show changes if get rest of series later.
@@michaeljeacock actually what people think is season 5 is actually just the second half of season 4. the series was delayed due to various financial issues and the animation studio got sold during this time. The actual season 5 is only two episodes, the series finale. the series got canned after the episodes were produced
@@Mel823 lol so true 😂😂😂😂😭😭😩😩.
I loved the intro song growing up. Used to get me so pumped! lol
Oh I watch this last year and it was so much fun I started to read comics last years mainly xmen tho
I was the prime age (13) when this show debuted. I absolutely loved this show, as did everyone else in my family, including my parents. First time seeing a positive and strong black female cartoon character. Made a huge impact on me. Watching this show was a family event every Saturday morning. Can’t wait for the continuation!
I have all These episodes of Dvd.
So can Watch without a steaming serives. It so 90s but bad ass.
Great video! I did a recent rewatch of this show as well - Surprising how much this almost 30 year-old cartoon holds up.
You should do a video on sailor moon. I know it’s a girly anime but when I was in fifth grade that was my jam I had bedsheets I had Sailor Moon everything I could get. Actually it’s still my jam I am very fond of sailor moon still and have great memories.
X-men and Batman was my favorites. And loved how x-men had small story arcs that took place throughout multiple episodes, gave it a different vibe
Can do a rewatch of the original Transformers cartoon?
It’s so dumb but I love it: Mummies Alive. I used to eat cereal while watching it before going to school. Plus even as a child I loved Egyptology and that attracted me to this cartoon. The voice cast is really good.
What would be considered retro cause I'd like to recommend jackie chan adventures!!
I think JCA was long enough ago that it'd be considered retro now. Plus the animation style was very much a 90s style compared to other cartoons of the time. Glad I'm not the only who remembers this show
Shaolin showdown. I swear soo underrated. Bad ass show
Andres Wolverine voice 😁😁😁
Please watch Looney Tunes Cartoons from HBO Max
What I've watched so far was so hilarious. You can tell the folks behind this Looney Tunes revival spent a long time researching what made the classic shorts a comedy treat.
This captivated me as a kid. Born in '89. I loved nightcrawler. The dynamic with wolverine and sabertooth. Juggernaut, magneto, professor x, Colossus, the mutants, the 4 horseman of the apocalypse. The arc angel. Beast, rouge, storm, morph, gambit, cyclops, apocalypse, the suppressed sewer mutants. It transcended so many deep human societal struggles. The sentinels. Just everything was so well done in this series and it doesn't matter what age you are. This Thundercats, He-man, captain planet. All impacted me so much.
it good
I recently watched EVERY EPISODE of Ben 10 (the 230 episodes of the original continuity and every Max-available episode of the reboot) because I was sure I had a few holes as to what episodes I had seen. Late Omniverse especially aired on Boomerang, and then finished off at 6 AM on CN circa Over the Garden Wall. I remember not even getting through now-lost recordings of those early morning airings. It was fantastic. And I also rewatched Batman Beyond because I hadn’t seen it in so long, even missed it on Hub Network. The one episode I remembered from childhood was The Egg Baby, which is still really enjoyable.
"Night of the Sentinels" was one of my favorite episodes. I remember Pizza Hut offered the 2 part episode on VHS with a pizza. It was my absolute favorite show as a kid.
I watched it when it came out in Disney +. Mid way into the series, the animation got really crappy! Whew! I was like, "This ain't Fruit Loops! These are Flavored Hoops! Boooo!!" Lol!
Excellent Retro Review.
I’ve been a supporter of the channel since day 1!! Keep it up man!!🔥🔥🔥
Good to see your back up and running.. I remember getting the first 3 VCR tapes for this.. damn we old
No matter how horrible the world gets, watching Andre get excited about something will always be a treat.
Love the positivity you keep up with these reviews, (truly, we need it online) but for me this show is such a strange, mixed bag and I think it's biggest problem is how inconsistent it is, even internally on its own logic. You've got Storm and her "clothes lightning" powers, you've got Gambit and Cyclops walking around in-public in-uniform while the women get to/have to play dress-up to look cute, you've got a Chinese-American whose superpower is "fireworks" (it sure was the '90s!), you've got "stealth mode Sentinel" as a giant robot that's hiding behind a house, and...it's definitely a product of its time.
It's fun for a nostalgia trip to be sure, and I really do enjoy how you couch it in its own context to show that it WAS an important show, and it DID make a huge impact through more than just being in the right place and right time, but for me personally: that lack of consistency and logic hurts it a surprising amount. Maybe because other kid's shows these days, even the weird and absurd ones, strive to make internal sense.
This show feels like if Batman TAS ever did an "Emperor Joker" episode, only without anyone feeling like anything was out of place.
X-Men and Batman Animated were my favorite shows growing up. Both were enjoyable and energetic and yet both had MANY great lessons to teach, not just kids, but adults too. Really darn good shows and gems
Like you. I didn’t have access to comics growing up, so these cartoons were my introduction to superhero’s
Amazing Job Andre on explaining and covering the show!!! X-Men was legit
