legends 2 is my favorite and i played that game non stop. the loot system was overstuffed, but interesting; there were some good upgrades to be found. but i really loved the abilities, and how you could pick which ones you wanted. ult. alliance dumbed that down and said, you use the moves we give you! and then using magneto was just the best, but nightcrawler was my favorite overall.
The reason why X-Men Origins: Wolverine was so good was because it was being developed as a different Wolverine game for years before Activision was like, "let's make it a movie tie-in game."
If i remember correctly the movie had couple of delays which gave the team more time on top of that Raven really fought hard to get Activision to let them make it M rated.
AFAIR it wasn't in development for years. The team might have dreamt of it for years, but it was developed rather quickly. They were given a very vague early script of the movie.
Man, I love X-2 Wolverine's revenge so much. Glad to see it get some love. I just picked it up for my PS2 again this year. Booted it up not long ago and still love it.
Cyclops was so broken in X-Men Next Dimension, it was such a fun game but such a frustrating game. I don't know what they were thinking with the balance in the game lol. I adore those RPG ones though, so many hours sunk into those games.
Im sorry for your childhood loss of not playing X-Men: Legends 1 and 2. I played those games annually from 2004-2012. Then MUA 1 and 2. Time of my life.❤😂 I've been Heartbroken that we havent had X-Men Legends 3 yet. Also the were a great length, the first X-Men Legend being longer than the 2nd dramatically. But the storyline, collectables, learning about every character's history, etc. For me hands down the Best X-Men Games every created. ❤
This retrospective really hits home for me, because I’m the exact same. Next Dimension was my first fighter ever, and it used to kick my ass so hard I would cry. But last year I was able to emulate it to my PC, so I could experience it as an adult with a developed frontal lobe, a much larger index of X-Men knowledge, and conditioned fingers from plenty of fighters in between. And although the learning curve is somethin vicious, I regret to tell you,… skill issue man😭
You should look at the Harry Potter movie tie in games They’re really the midpoint between the books and movies whilst also being their own thing I feel like that was best time to be a Harry Potter fan where you could completely entrench yourself in the Wizarding world with the books, the movies and the games But some are better than others with the Chamber or Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban games being the best
I loved gauntlet on the N64 so when I played xmen legends when it came out, that it was awesome. Got it for Christmas that year with halo 2 and the big 32" silver flat box screen TV. Good times. Played the hell out of it.
I stopped all comic book games in 2005, but I adored X2: Wolverines Revenge and the X-Men game that was like a RPG that had Apocalypse in it. It was the second in the series. The first one pissed me off so much and I thought it sucked donkey balls.

I love that they did the female characters justice, I could be jean grey and pick up wolverine and fly him across to another spot, but I couldn’t pickup heavy targets unless I was like Rogue. X-Men Destiny though I believe may also have the stigma of being one of the last games that that studio made which may lead some people to unfairly blame the game for the studio's downfall EVENTHOUGH it was all that studios fault. They apparently let their license for the use of an Unreal Engine ran out ans instead of renewing their license they just used the engine illegally for X-Men Destiny and their other game Too Human, which lead to studio being sued and these 2 games actually being legally taken down with it being de-listed digitally and any unsold physical copies that were still on shelves were to be recalled for destruction.
I dont know why the didnt keep the combo system from x men legends 2 for all the ultimate alliance games i loved the mix up hits you could do in the games plus the danger room one on fights between characters was
I never thought Next Dimension was that difficult. Completed it at least a dozen times. Unlocked Blob, the sentinels etc. some characters I found harder to use, Mystique and Forge.
I would have included Star ocean and Tales of phantasia as those games have a really interesting development history and fromt hat we got Tri-Ace and they eventually gave us Valkyrie profile and Radiata stories
I wanted to point out there's actually 2 versions of X-Men Origins Wolverine. We look fondly on the Uncaged Edition for PS3/Xbox 360, but previous gen systems got another version. There was a Hollywood Writer's Strike at the time so the game got delayed. It's just interesting to think we wouldn't have got such an amazing game without a sepcific event. The issue with X-Men Destiny is the developer. Too bad, Silicon Knights went and stole Unreal Engine 3 code and got sued to oblivion by Epic.

I didn't exactly grow up with the xmen mutant academy/ next dimension games so I wanted to try it as a huge X-Men fan. Had my fun with Mutant Academy but definitely felt like it could be seriously improved, so I recently bought next dimension from a thrift store and thought it'd be a better version of those other games, man I was wrong.
X-Men: The Official Game was by no means a GREAT game, but by fuck it was fun! Sure, Logan's combat wasn't as good as Wolverine's Revenge (Or Origins), but I thought the healing factor/health system was quite intuitive. Yes, Nightcrawler's levels are pretty much the best, but Iceman's levels were a close second. Its upgrade system was simple, but satisfying to see in effect and the alternate skin rewards only enhanced the experience! Plus, for the LONGEST time, this was the closest we'd ever get to actually seeing "Huge Ackman" in the classic costume!
When you say the origins movie "didn't light the world on fire" To be fair the whole movie was leaked and viewed several 10s of thousand times that they could tell probably 100x more a week before the movie came out

I dream that we can get an X-Men animated series game that uses 2D sprites in a 3D environment. I haven't fully watched the new X-men '97 but.. I watched footage of it & I gotta admit I'm not a fan of how they depicted & portrayed Magneto. I also don't really like how they changed some characters. Especially compared to "X-men The Animated Series" and that one special episode that came out right before the animated series? I think it's called "Pryde of the X-men" I absolutely loved both of those versions of X-men. I really liked Rouge and Gambit in that. As well as Nightcrawler & Colossus, juggernaut, magneto, Sabertooth, wolverine, storm, professor X, etc. Their characters and personalities are just perfect in both of those original animated series. The new '97 show has a different art style, a different tone & a lesser level of maturity compared to X-men the animated series. I just massively prefer the original animated series. In my opinion it's the perfect depictions of the X-men and the world they live in and the villains & issues they deal with.
