Because I played X-men Next Dimensions as a kid, it was literally the only reason I was able to shout "I know who that is!" when Bastion appeared in X-Men 97.

Hopefully with the success of X-Men 97, we can see a resurgence of X-Men games like remasters & brand new games
The reason why X-Men Origins: Wolverine was so good was because it was being developed as a different Wolverine game for years before Activision was like, "let's make it a movie tie-in game."
If i remember correctly the movie had couple of delays which gave the team more time on top of that Raven really fought hard to get Activision to let them make it M rated.

AFAIR it wasn't in development for years.
The team might have dreamt of it for years, but it was developed rather quickly.
They were given a very vague early script of the movie.
Capcom and Konami have def made the best X-Men games and made my childhood perfect those Genesis and Saturn days were unbelievable.

legends 2 is my favorite and i played that game non stop. the loot system was overstuffed, but interesting; there were some good upgrades to be found. but i really loved the abilities, and how you could pick which ones you wanted. ult. alliance dumbed that down and said, you use the moves we give you! and then using magneto was just the best, but nightcrawler was my favorite overall.

X-Men have had some solid games over the years. One of my first games ever games was X-Men on NES lol

Cyclops was so broken in X-Men Next Dimension, it was such a fun game but such a frustrating game. I don't know what they were thinking with the balance in the game lol. I adore those RPG ones though, so many hours sunk into those games.

There was X-Men Destiny that came a year or two later by Sillicon Knights. Admittedly i don't think that most people want to remember that one.

Before this video, I had never heard of X-Men: Next Dimension, for a moment I thought you were going to talk about X-Men: Children Of The Atom
X-Men Destiny should be a blueprint for the true X-Men experience, an RPG where you create your character, and design your gear and its mutan gene is like Rogue being able absorb a variety powers you can put on your weapon wheel and use in conjunction making combat dynamic & creative, with a morality system based on philosophical choices that ultimately decide what side you're without deliberately choosing, making it more nuanced than good vs evil.
Man, I love X-2 Wolverine's revenge so much. Glad to see it get some love. I just picked it up for my PS2 again this year. Booted it up not long ago and still love it.

X-Men Destiny had a lot of behind-the-scenes drama, and the game eventually got recalled.
X-Men Destiny is actually pretty rare, it had to be pulled off of shelves due to it resulting in a lawsuit between developers and usage of copyright code and epic not giving developers a completed Unreal 3 engine, so silicon knights used UR3 as a starting point to develop their own engine. Too Human was also part of the lawsuit
Origins Wolverine and Destiny were peak superhero gaming for me during the PS3 era. Destiny will also always be my guilty pleasure.
I loved gauntlet on the N64 so when I played xmen legends when it came out, that it was awesome. Got it for Christmas that year with halo 2 and the big 32" silver flat box screen TV. Good times. Played the hell out of it.
You should look at the Harry Potter movie tie in games
They’re really the midpoint between the books and movies whilst also being their own thing
I feel like that was best time to be a Harry Potter fan where you could completely entrench yourself in the Wizarding world with the books, the movies and the games
But some are better than others with the Chamber or Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban games being the best
Legends 1 & 2 are some of my favorites! I grabbed those at a GameStop for DIRT cheap back in 2009.
Ive been begging for remasteres of Xmen legends 1 and 2 thought after getting Ultimate Alliance remasters it might be possible but its looking at this point iys never happening. Some of my all time fave games

I didnt know anything about Xmen, but Legends 1 & 2 inspired my whole love for them and Marvel in general when I was a kid.

To be fair the whole movie was leaked and viewed several 10s of thousand times that they could tell probably 100x more a week before the movie came out

The amount of great games that deserve a remastered such as X-Men Legends and Wolverine Origins from the XBox/PS2 is insane
I stopped all comic book games in 2005, but I adored X2: Wolverines Revenge and the X-Men game that was like a RPG that had Apocalypse in it. It was the second in the series. The first one pissed me off so much and I thought it sucked donkey balls.
I got baited so bad into buying X-Men: Destiny, I thought I was gonna be able to play as any X-Men, but all I got was a Desmond Miles look alike with Miguel O' Hara's Edge of Time combat. 😂

Wow, we have the same experience, except i experience Legends 1-2 when they came out. They’re my absolute FAVORITE. I love that they did the female characters justice, I could be jean grey and pick up wolverine and fly him across to another spot, but I couldn’t pickup heavy targets unless I was like Rogue. I would die of happiness if they remake legends and ultimate alliance 1-2. I didn’t like ultimate alliance 3. Also, Dead or Alive is my favorite fighting game! Glad you noticed the reference with Next Dimensions

Dude, X-Men Destiny. Wow. I forgot about that game. I got it Christmas day, beat it before dinner. I was so sad at how short it was. Then half a year later, someone broke into our house and stole all my 360 games.

X-Men Next Dimension was my shit back then on the Gamecube.
I didn't exactly grow up with the xmen mutant academy/ next dimension games so I wanted to try it as a huge X-Men fan. Had my fun with Mutant Academy but definitely felt like it could be seriously improved, so I recently bought next dimension from a thrift store and thought it'd be a better version of those other games, man I was wrong.
X-Men: The Official Game was by no means a GREAT game, but by fuck it was fun!
Sure, Logan's combat wasn't as good as Wolverine's Revenge (Or Origins), but I thought the healing factor/health system was quite intuitive. Yes, Nightcrawler's levels are pretty much the best, but Iceman's levels were a close second. Its upgrade system was simple, but satisfying to see in effect and the alternate skin rewards only enhanced the experience!
Plus, for the LONGEST time, this was the closest we'd ever get to actually seeing "Huge Ackman" in the classic costume!
I would have included Star ocean and Tales of phantasia as those games have a really interesting development history and fromt hat we got Tri-Ace and they eventually gave us Valkyrie profile and Radiata stories
legends 2 has such an insane amount of QoL improvements from legends 1 aswell. such an amazing sequel and dare i say... its better than ultimate alliance. IMO

Xmen the official game and wolverines revenge are probably the best Xmen games so far for me
I dont know why the didnt keep the combo system from x men legends 2 for all the ultimate alliance games i loved the mix up hits you could do in the games plus the danger room one on fights between characters was

I really wanted Psylocke and Jubilee back in X-Men Legends 2. I want a 3rd entry so bad 💔 Angel and Emma deserve better.
I wanted to point out there's actually 2 versions of X-Men Origins Wolverine. We look fondly on the Uncaged Edition for PS3/Xbox 360, but previous gen systems got another version. There was a Hollywood Writer's Strike at the time so the game got delayed. It's just interesting to think we wouldn't have got such an amazing game without a sepcific event.
The issue with X-Men Destiny is the developer. Too bad, Silicon Knights went and stole Unreal Engine 3 code and got sued to oblivion by Epic.
Would love for these Activision marvel games to be rereleased. Maybe MS and Marvel will work something out some day.
X-Men Destiny though I believe may also have the stigma of being one of the last games that that studio made which may lead some people to unfairly blame the game for the studio's downfall EVENTHOUGH it was all that studios fault.
They apparently let their license for the use of an Unreal Engine ran out ans instead of renewing their license they just used the engine illegally for X-Men Destiny and their other game Too Human, which lead to studio being sued and these 2 games actually being legally taken down with it being de-listed digitally and any unsold physical copies that were still on shelves were to be recalled for destruction.
They need a new X-Men game with Bishop in it.

I dream that we can get an X-Men animated series game that uses 2D sprites in a 3D environment. I haven't fully watched the new X-men '97 but.. I watched footage of it & I gotta admit I'm not a fan of how they depicted & portrayed Magneto. I also don't really like how they changed some characters. Especially compared to "X-men The Animated Series" and that one special episode that came out right before the animated series? I think it's called "Pryde of the X-men" I absolutely loved both of those versions of X-men. I really liked Rouge and Gambit in that. As well as Nightcrawler & Colossus, juggernaut, magneto, Sabertooth, wolverine, storm, professor X, etc. Their characters and personalities are just perfect in both of those original animated series. The new '97 show has a different art style, a different tone & a lesser level of maturity compared to X-men the animated series. I just massively prefer the original animated series. In my opinion it's the perfect depictions of the X-men and the world they live in and the villains & issues they deal with.

Man I WISH Marvel would do a 2024 version of Diablo with all the heroes. NOT TURN based like Midnight suns, with GOOD story, GOOD gameplay, I'd play the HELL out of that.. And they could even be super greedy like Blizzard and make billions on skins and stuff. I want it!

It's kinda sad that you didn't include games like X-men Mutant apocalypse on Snes as well as X-men children of the atom. They are very good and definitely worth mentioning as well as experiencing. I hope you will make a review or retrospective on them someday

Out of all modern or most modern X-Men games I only played on PC games like X2 Wolverine's Revenge, X-Men Legends 2 Rise of Apocolypse and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I was wanted to try out X-Men Destiny but I skipped that game because.. well, I didn't liked the fact that you don't play as THE actual X-Men, like Wolverine, Gambit or Cyclops, and instead they give you some noname kids who you even don't care about. And that is what pushed me away from that X-Men game.
But, if we also count the emulated games that I played on PC, then I also played first X-Men Legends game, but on GameCube emulator. Because unlike PCSX2, that completely sucks, Dolphin since the version 5.0 runs almost on anything, if it's a gaming hardware even if it's old. But I wish that X-Men Legends 1 was actually on PC because, that way it would have been better to play it that way.
