My husband & I first vacation. We'd been married 10 years. Our girls were late teens 🎉 We stayed at the Logan. We saved up for years. We check in they put a $700+ hold for incidentals. That was all our vacation funds. We were devastated almost in tears. The hotel staff understood our dilemma. They got ahold of our bank to drop the hold. We left to go get something for lunch. When we returned it was all cleared up. I wanted to hug them. Everytime we walked by the desk, it was like they were our friends. Asking us about our day plans or suggestions for where we might want to go. I still remember how great they made us feel. This was 5 years ago. We never yelled or were mean or snide. We simply were shocked and explained our situation. If you're ever in Philadelphia, stay at the Logan Curio Hotel by Hilton.❤❤️

One of my first overnight shifts, I was patrolling the halls when I came around the corner and found a young woman passed out on the floor. She was wearing only a watch, and when awakened was unable to tell me from which she came, only that she had been at a party. I wrapped her in a hotel blanket, and after learning her family contact, sent her off in a taxi - after loaning her $10. Later learned she was under 18! Her sister repaid me, and thanked me for being so thoughtful.

Totally agree on the being nice. My sister and her partner were travelling back from London Heathrow (to Dublin) when the Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted and air travel across Europe started getting cancelled and backed up. Check in at the airport was chaos but she was polite to the check-in agent, willing to go to stand-by to get out on an earlier flight but she did notice that whilst some people were polite and understanding that the check-in agent wasn't a Norse god that personally erupted the volcano, others were not as understanding. And were loud, rude and vulgar about it too. When my sister got down to the stand-by desk, she didn't see those people there, only the polite ones because if you abuse people trying to help you, they're just not inclined to really help you.

My sister saved me from working under a toxic manager. I worked retail, but my sister had a baby and asked me to help while she was finishing college. I was very glad to say yes and resign from my job.
Also, I worked at a "haunted" hotel too. I found that if you treat them like a misbehaving toddler, it's a lot less scary. If they're not doing anything violent then there's nothing to worry about

I love your videos. Being nice always works. We had a vacation to Singer Island in Florida just before COVID hit. Due to miscommunication with my wife, we arrived one day earlier than we had reserved for. We booked our flight in on the wrong day! The icing on the cake was that we booked our flight out on the wrong day also, extending our stay one day. The hotel was very accommodating and we got rooms both those nights. We did not even have to change rooms during our stay. We checked in and checked out when we were done. I was prepared to move rooms, but we did not have too.

I would love to have the opportunity to meet you and tell you how much I appreciate your funny stories, your take on the life of a hotel FD ambassador, and how right you are, kindness goes a long way. Its the golden rule. I see too many "entitled" guests who think they own the place, can boss the FD and others around, etc. I hold top tier status at several hotel and airlines and always try to treat the people I meet with empathy and kindness. Your upbeat and positive can do attitude are great and I hope you enjoy great success and get raises and promotions. Keep up the great work

At my mom’s restaurant we have two technically feral cats that hang out. My mom has trained them to not be obnoxious and demanding of guests (if Monroe or Pistachio made any noise at guests she’d scruff them and throw them over the back gate, they quickly learned to just wander looking cute until guests called them over) and they’re so territorial that they keep the swaths of other feral cats in the area off the property. They also help with pests and are just lovely to have around in general. And their fur is so soft and plushy because they live on a steady diet of mahi, Tina, steak, pork, and shrimp, and get kibble when they ask.
My dog Murphy also comes in when my mom is there. Little one eyed 15 year old dog who follows her around. He lets anyone hold him like a baby.

Has there been any point in your career in the service industry where a customer has gone the extra mile to treat you well personally, or has left you with a better feeling than before you started interacting with them? (The part about talking to your supervisor doesn't count since they didn't interact with you much.)
Also, what can I do to show appreciation to service workers other than tipping? As an example, after incidents of unruly passengers on planes increased, I began handing out chocolates to the flight crew.

    • @jessicavanel
      @jessicavanel  Год назад +9

Hi there! I've had many sweet guests go the extra mile for me. It's always been very appreciated. Most often I've felt extra appreciated simply by a guest telling me that they've felt my service was extraordinary. One of the nicest things that happened was when someone actually brought me a few gifts-- a candle & a couple cute masks (it was in the height of working during COVID).
But overall, I would say the best way to show appreciation is to be patient and kind. Someone going the extra mile to be especially nice and gracious is worth more to me than any kind of tip or gift.

Another thing you could do in appreciation is find their name and either tell the manager personally that said employee went above and beyond or put in a review on the website about said employee. Sometimes (while the public doesn't know) management will have "competitions" and will reward guest compliments. 😊💗

My BFF and I worked in a callsite together - it's where we met nearly 40 years ago. We were chatting the other night and realized that we've both developed the habit of asking to speak to the supervisor when we get exceptional service. We know how much that means to someone in the service industry, so we're passing compliments forward. We also recognize that sometimes there are training issuess, so we often present complaints in that light, rather than losing our minds when someone is incompetent. Our company recently changed health care insurance providers. Their registration process and customer service was a mess! We independently each gave commendations for the individuals who (finally) walked us through the issues, and provided tips we used to make the process smoother.

Well he got really stuck in the bathroom again and panicked. Maintenance and management came barreling over the last time. I asked can we just get a new door handle instead of a repair. they did. They also said they would put some money on our park app. I'm like cool thx. I'm thinking $25.00 no it was about $300.00. I was not expecting that!! I was so grateful to the staff and management.

Once we were getting ready to leave and so no one was in the back but the door randomly opened and closed without anyone there (and these are fire doors that close automatically unless the door stop is down). I would not want to deal with ghostly happenings late at night, but it's kinda funny how differently people react to that sort of thing. When my mom worked at a hotel restaurant it was just common knowledge there that a little girl ghost liked to play in one of the banquet rooms. I don't remember anyone ever reacting negatively to it, but then again she never did anything scary/mean.

Keping up with your timeline is confusing. I just wondered if it was after beacuse I can Imagine woriking at Disney would definitely help with customer relations at a hotel. I am glad you are now sticking to a regualr job here at RUclips where we can all keep tabs on you! My favourite story was definitely the dog one, though, I think a pet baby bear would of been a nicer choice. 😜Just kidding! Bet it was hard giving the dog up when her parents came back. Here's a quick timeline: I started working in hotels during college (independent and global brands) -> I would VISIT Disney often, so a lot of my Disneybounding stories happened during my college years -> I graduated college and worked for a year as a Night Auditor with a global hotel brand-> I started making videos on social media -> I quit working as a night auditor to get hired and work dayshifts at Disney Hotels -> present day! I am still employed part-time with Disney!

    Jess,
I bet you haven't come across one like this. My boss and manager went to a trade convention in Indianapolis. They check in at a very nice chain hotel, took their stuff to their rooms and went to dinner. When they came back, the manager went to his room and the key didn't work, but he heard voices in the room and got worried. He went to get security at the front desk and they told him that wasn't his room. That it was never his room. He insisted they were wrong and called the boss down who confirmed that it indeed was the room that was assigned to him. The front desk stuck to their story and it started to get heated. So the manager called the cops. A very bad cop showed up and physically abused my boss twice. Once after handcuffing him. It was all caught on the hotel security cameras. They were both arrested and taken to jail and had to post bond. When my manager got back to the hotel to get his stuff, one of the employees informed him, that while he was at dinner, the staff went to his room ( the room they said he was never in ) and moved his stuff to another room, but didn't remember what room they moved it to. To keep this story from being too long, the hotel and the city of Indianapolis both were sued for a very large amount of money. Since my boss was high up in this trade, he was able to have the convention moved to another city. Can you beat that one ?

I have worked in a hotel that may have been haunted. I have heard muffled voices or music that doesn't match the lobby music.
The hotel has rooms on the first floor but usually does not use them unless the upper floors are full.
On one night when the hotel was just about empty, I heard a muffled conversation from across the lobby. It's a very large lobby with a bar and seating area on the other side. It's all open concept with a small fountain in the center. So I can see the whole lobby from the front desk.
So that night there were no rooms rented on the 1st or 2nd floor. I went to investigate the muffled voices. They stopped but started again on the other side of the lobby. I went back and forth from desk to the bar trying to find the source but the muffled voices kept moving. I even tried looking down the guest room hallways and the office and the conference room. The voices never got any clearer and kept moving.
On a separate night I heard old style music like 1990s small band instrumental stuff. The lobby was playing Christmas music that was turned down because it was night time.
Again when I investigated, the music would move. Except I could get closer to it and it moves in different ways.
On other nights I have seen shadows out of the corner of my eye. Only to have them disappear when I looked towards them.
I asked other employees at the hotel and they confirmed that weird things like that happen occasionally. A few of them said "Oh yeah this place is definitely haunted."

7:51 it is not just the hospitality industrie. The whole service made this mistake. My ex-coworker worked as a deputy store manager in retail and told me this story: a woman with her teenage daughter came into the store and asked for the restrooms. The employees had the (written!) order, not to let customers use the restrooms, because the only way to the restroom was leading through the office and no customer was allowed in there. So the employee told the woman why she was not allowed to let her daughter use the restroom. The woman and their daughter left. Later her manager told her that this woman called the company hotline and complained. The manager then ordered the employee to buy a bouquet of flowers for the moither and chocolate for the daughter, drive to their house and appologize for the "mistake". This is how Karens are created. Not only was the mother confirmed in her behavior, also her daughter learned to get a reward for complaining about nothing. And the employee learned how it felled to be backstabed by the management.

Her husband stood silently beside her, not admitting to have given the room attendant the black trash bag to throw out. He came back a few minutes later after his wife stormed off. Our maintenance engineer had to go dumpster diving bursting a packed weekend of trash from sports and wedding guests. The bag was finally found and returned with no thanks or apology.

A lot of these stories tell me one thing: don’t be afraid to go over the manager’s head if they’re doing something wrong. So much of the time the higher ups don’t approve of these actions and will never know about the manager’s abusive power trips if they aren’t told. It’s something I’ve had to deal with running my mother’s restaurant with her, while getting my deadbeat abusive father out of the business carefully. He IS still essentially doing grunt work, like inventory and ordering and stuff, but so many times he would keep putting off stuff we needed just to be contrarian, and the staff wouldn’t tell me or Hillary. Some would end up arguing with him when he would say stupid shit like “we don’t need all the torches, just light half of them” and shit like that, which got ugly. Now they understand if he’s ever falling short on any of this, they just need to let us know and we’ll deal with it. If he doesn’t buy tiki torch fuel and tries some little abusive shit like that we make sure it’s ordered ourselves by calling/texting the suppliers and adding to our order.

I worked on a language school and there was some rumors that a ghost girl was on the second floor. Once at the end of my shift, it was only the director and me left and I went to the second floor to get some stuff. Then I hear a little girl laughing. Mind you, the last kids' class was hours ago, they were all gone for hours.
I learned that day I am not afraid of ghosts since I didn't shiver, mor get scared, and just calmly collected my things, check the area and continued doing what I had to do. She didn't bother at all after that. Maybe it was a prank the director was trying to make. But it would have been very elaborated since the giggles came from behind and below me, like the stature of a little girl. Also, that director treated me with much respect and like I was his niece or something along the lines.
I do get scared of tiny spiders, though. I don't want them getting into my ears.

Had campus police called my roommate and I over a puppy. Their owner was having some short of drama I forget what, so we let them stay with us for a night. Not knowing they were lying about this dog being and esa, and that they were also not housetrained. We told them we both have class at this time you need to be back from your meeting before we are both gone. Not thinking anything of it go to class, and go back to my room with crying puppy no owner. Followed by campus police calling my phone once someone complained(rightfully so) about the noise, and I'm like it's not my dog here's what is going on. Took puppy out and all that, and texted the friend of the dogs owner telling them what happened. That owner also let puppy pee on my roommates bed. A lot more drama happened with all that, but this made me think of that trauma of my college days.

That first one 😩 I’ve been asking my manager very politely to fix my schedule cause it kept messing with my other job and she wouldn’t. Then she would change it on my days off so I’d come in at the wrong time and get penalized by getting my hours cut under the excuse “you need to fix yourself before you can get full time back” 😑. it got cut all the way to 4 days a week 4 hours a day. FINALLY today they gave me my own copy of the schedule and it says I am 5 days a week again next week but they are now f*cking with my weekends when I work my other job AGAIN 😭 and now I’m afraid to bring it up because she might cut my hours again for pointing out I WAKE UP AT 5AM FOR MY FIRST JOB AND THEY WANT ME TO COME IN AT 9 FOR MY SECOND?????????? While I have more to do for my other job after this job?????
I can’t wait to go back to my old job. I got payed more too cause MY HOURS WERNT CUT

I was doing the night audit and my coworker was late relieving. I told her to call back a little later but I cannot check you until 3 p.m. maybe they'll do it. She called back 20 minutes later when my coworker showed up and I was punching out. Come to find out she was calling the wrong hotel. OMG some people are just hilarious. When my sister and i went to a big convention the room was less than desirable and quite frankly the whole event was less than desirable and we were leaving early. I went to the front desk going you guys are probably getting alot of complaints right now over room choices and probably a bunch of other stuff you have no control over I just want to say thank you for atleast giving me a room on a lower floor so I can enjoy a view of the river and not activate my massive fear of hights or claustrophobia by being stuck in an elevator while it goes up 30 floors. However the Hulk stayed in our room last and had issues with temp regulation becuase thermostat is broken and the shower handle is broken, everything is either super hot or super cold. Combine that with many failed promises by the event itself I'm leaving early. They knocked 50 bucks off per night and didn't charge me for the late check out becuase we were packing everything up quick and I missed it by 30 minutes and sent a bellhop up to help us bring everything downstairs and to the car which was a service not being offered to guests of the event due to the already discounted rooms.

I also worked in a hotel and sometimes I had to work in another one which was owned by the same man. And I was all alone. No security or anything, only me. I turned everything off and wanted to sleep on my night shift caaaause I was allowed to do that. And from the kitchen that wasn't even in use like ever... The sounds that came from there was like someone is constantly switching on and off the lamp. Just the sound, but the lights remained off. Also, other sound like someone is working there. But nobody was there. Only me. So the second night I had to work there, I was awake the whole night.

@@biankaovsepian-pataki7226 Some people call them ghosts. I"m a Christian, and 2 things here: I don't believe departed spirits get to roam the earth - they're either in heaven or in hell. And #2, I believe they're demons. Demons hate all humans because we're God's dearly loved children - all of us are. These spirits can pretend to be "friendly", but their character is pure evil. My family had some spirits that followed them from one residence to another. There were always pranks, and they were never pleasant. I once lived in an old house where a breeze would blow through in the middle of winter, and no, the windows weren't draftly. I'd hear voices shouting as I woke in the morning. An electric wall heater would turn itself on after I had most definitely turned it off all the way. The worst thing was waking one night with a huge weight on my chest and I couldn't breathe. A black shadow covered the ceiling, and"something" was telling me that the house was angry that we'd been gone on a trip. I could neither move nor speak nor breathe, nor wake my husband who was beside me. No one will ever convince me that there are ghosts or friendly spirits, though I do believe God's angels are sometimes sent to intervene on our behalf. What do you think?

biggest thing you can learn is how to be nice angry
it sounds a little manipulative but its far from it let me explain
so when something gets messed up its natural to want to be angry and vent and show you supreme displeasure
dont do that trust me if they could have fixed it they already would have
however at the same time this isnt ok and you must communicate it
so be nice angry or rather politley angry ront raise your voice dont take on a agressive tone just adopt language that conveys your annoyance
    examples are
    this is frustrating
im not happy about how this has turned out
    this is not really aceptable
but the key is you say it politley and in a possitive tone being as kind and nice to the person as you can remember they probably didnt fuck shit up
they probably wasnt even in the same building let alone room when whatever policy was made and have beyond zero ability to change said policy
they dont deserve you being a asshole
you have a right to be upset by this you dont have a right to take it out on the employee
so be nice to them ALWAYS
and be ready to accept that sometimes theres just nothing they can do trust me theyd of done it put yourself in there shoes youd do anything to make this angry person go away but if policy says no and you value having food and somewhere to live you cant do anything to go against the rules
chances are they will take your displeasure you have politley shown enter it into whatever systems they have and let management see that this policy is upsetting customers
and be sure to thank them wish them a nice day thankthem for whatever help they have been able to provide when your done maybe apoligise just incase you may have upset them and ensure you tell them its not there fault if they do apoligise on behalf of the company
