    As always, please give me your honest thoughts about this style of filming! I'm still not entirely used a reading stories aloud from off my computer. I'm much more used to acting them out, but many people said they LOVED listening to my last video, so here we are again!
    Does watching a video filmed landscape (horizontal, in the more traditional RUclips style) or portrait (vertical, in a more TikTok style) matter to you? Do you notice a big change in image quality? (I filmed this using my iPhone's back camera instead of the front.) How much does that affect your viewing experience? Do you enjoy the slower-pace of me reading the story verbatim, or would you rather I put the story in my own words to condense it a bit?
    PLEASE share your opinion with me! It will help a TON in how I decide to move forward with this kind of series!

    Best revenge story can be summed up with “you are an excellent friend to have, and a terrible enemy to make”

      Many years ago, I did that to a coworker. She was fresh out of high school and would complain if she had to work any weekends or evenings because it interfered with her partying. I was the assistant manager, and she let me know in no uncertain terms that she was going to have my job.
      This went on for several months, and the manager was about at the point she was going to cut the girl loose when she came in and announced she was quitting because she was transferring to UC Santa Cruz-a notorious party school. Daddy said he'd pay for her to go there, provided she had a job, so she went up our store there and told them what a wonderful worker she was, and the manager agreed to hire her. After she left the store, I asked the manager if the manager up there should know what she was getting into, and she replied "I love it, but I didn't hear anything about that".
      So I call and speak to the manager, and let him know that her new hire won't work weekends, and would bitch if she had to work one evening a week, as well as some of the other stuff she pulled. The manager said, "Well, then why did you guys write her glowing letters of recommendation?" Of course, we'd done no such thing-she took a couple of sheets with the company letterhead, wrote letters about how wonderful she was as an employee, and then forged our signatures. The manager agreed that he didn't need a PITA like that working for him.
      Fast forward about three weeks, when PITA employee comes back into the store, and recounts the horrible tale of how she moved all her stuff into an apartment up there, signed up for classes, and then the manager _lied_ about having a job waiting for her because he'd "heard things" about her work habits.
      I got to tell her, "Yeah, I told him. This isn't high school, where you can crap on people and get away with it. Some of us will just wait in the weeds for the right time for payback, and this was the right time."
      She then had the nerve to say "Well, I guess you'll need to put me back on the schedule here" at which point my boss said, "Sorry, when you left we filled the position already".
      PITA girl says she's going to sue for slander, and "You know, my dad's an attorney, so it won't cost anything". I answered, "Well, the manager up there is going to mail us the letters you forged. Ask your dad what _that's_ going to do to your case".
      We never saw her again.

    Several years back my family had to evacuated due to Hurricane Matthew. The hotel we found was a full capacity with a skeleton staff. The staff was overwhelmed. The guests, some of whom had been on the road for up to nine hours, were exhausted. Still, everyone came together in true Southern form to make it work. They handed out our linens and towels at check-in along with all the rest of the rooms little extras. We made our own beds, etc. In the morning they set out a DIY cold breakfast room. By that evening everything was ironed out and the staff was replaced. In the meantime no one did anything they had to be embarrassed by. This is the way it's supposed to go.

    Maybe it's just me. But if I had been a guest during the storm, I would have been asking what I could do to help since I know they're being run off their feet.

      I'd be the same, but I also work at a hotel. Lol. If you'd offer that to me, sadly I don't know of there would be much we could allow you to do. Guests or non-staff, can't deliver items paid for by another guest, or have hotel keys, or come behind the desk, or other than pointing someone to their room or conveying a message to other guests, there wouldn't be a whole lot. But you can always play bouncer and hang out with the staff till you can't handle the bs. You might save someone's job 🤣

      I would help bring bedding and towels or anything I could to make the short-staff's job easier, and wouldn't expect any normal "perks" as we all weather the storm together

      YES! I am a retired x-ray tech, but if I was staying at a hotel during an emergency I would rather go down and ask if they have ANY job I can do to help out! WHY sit in your room when you can help out in a crisis!

    My husband is the highest member for two hotel chains and he always says that you never expect anything free. It’s just a perk that you sometimes get rewarded for, but not always.

      That's the attitude everyone should have. Plus rewards member or not, being kind & well-mannered almost always pays better than being belligerent, disruptive, and rude. Not to mention everyone has a better day that way. It's definitely not something to expect, but I've heard of guests getting unexpected upgrades, discounts, or perks because the hotel staff liked them. Because they were nice, and not looking for a free handout.

      I traveled for work for over two years. The hotel staff is your friend. The first place I stayed (for ~9 months) they were like family. One morning I came in from a really bad shift and the front desk said "You're late checkout today. You aren't driving 3 hours home until you get some sleep."
      I said an extra hour wasn't much help and he said, "No, stay until you're rested. That room isn't booked and we have plenty of availability." Bless his heart, I slept until 8pm, nearly 12 hours. A place like that is a blessing.

    I don't work in the Hospitality industry, but I made a good friend in Housekeeping on one stay.
    There was a 'hotel disaster' going on and everyone was frantically working to keep up.
    When Housekeeping came to my room I told her to wipe everything down while I stripped the beds. Then I told her to just leave me the fresh bedding and I'd make the beds myself.
    Good manners cost nothing...

      I would recommend *not* making the beds when you're leaving a room, though. Worked in housekeeping and some people did up the beds so I couldn't tell which one they used, or if they used both. A couple of the other housekeepers said that some of the people who seemed to do this actually didn't sleep under the blankets and sheets at all. They brought *sleeping bags.* Apparently it's a Mexican thing? Or all the people who did this were Mexican, anyway.

      @@brigidtheirish I just flip the covers back on top of the bed so the duvet isn't laying on the floor. It's also part of my "last looks" routine to make sure that I didn't forget anything.

      @@ghost307 A very *important* routine. Finding people's underwear is not pleasant. Especially when it was in the middle of a giant wad of damp towels.

      Just curious-why did your sheets need to be changed? I change my sheets at home twice a month. I don't get housekeeping at hotels, I may exchange towels if I'm there more that a few days. I'm just not that dirty.

      ​@@brigidtheirish, I actually strip the bed, bundle the dirty towels and tie up the trash so it's ready to grab.
      A few less things you have to do.

      Hate the website as much as you can jess... But just know the person working at the other end as a call enter employee face much brutality and harrassment more than the hotel
      Staff with the lowest minimum. Wage not even sufficient to meet ends meet😢

    I stayed in a hotel during a flood that saw me flee my house. There were more than 100 unexpected guests. I didn't hear one complaint. The guests looked after each other. I provided first aid and helped cook, my flatmate carried bags for the elderly and cleaned rooms. There was a guy helping the front desk and a woman working with maintenance to keep the air-con smoke free.

    The story of the storm brings back memories of being snowed in for a week after a blizzard in the historical hotel I worked in. No one was moving not guests not employees. We had one chef, the housekeeping manager, and a maintenance man that lived on the property and myself the front desk manager for all the guests that where snowed in. In our case everyone was wonderful. I waited tables, opened the bar and covered the desk every day. My overnight desk employee was local enough so he got in so I did get a little sleep. Everyone including our guests worked together and it turned out to be a very long but fun week.

    I work for an airline. We have the same stipulations for our travel discounts. Be respectful, follow dress codes, etc. etc. because we represent the company. Same goes for anyone accompanying us. I completely agree with this policy: it's enough to have entitled customers, we don't need entitled employees too.

      As I stated somewhere else:
      I as front desk at a Military Hotel and know your pain! One thing that might be different is Rank doesn’t always have privileges. And act like a butt, there may well be repercussions.
      I really try to be in the top 1% of favorite guests.
      One of my many stories?
      Our son & I checked in and mentioned that we were going to a local famous place to eat. They have some AMAZING desserts! The front desk clerk mentioned her favorite dessert that we just HAD to try!
      So when we were back at the hotel… we brought her back her favorite!!!

    That last one shows that you should always be kind to the customer service staff. There's always a way for them to get you back, even if it's just spitting in your food.

      I worked in 5 food outlets at this quasi mid town resort. I've seen it happen....more than once.

    Years ago I worked in a family hotel in northern California. Now California is heavily forested, and we have alot of black bears. So one elderly lady from the big city was checking into the hotel, and asking about the local state and national parks, and we have some really nice ones. But then the last thing she said was "But I hear they're bears in the parks". I said, yes, we have bears in the parks. "Where did they come from?" I didn't know what to say other than, they live there. She just couldn't grasp that we allowed bears in the parks.

    I ABSOLUTELY loved that last story about the company guest in the hotel. I was laughing inside the whole time and cheering this well-informed employee on at every turn. Those are the kind of employees you want on YOUR SIDE. Be very good to them, because they can screw you but good, and do it legally so that nobody can say a word against them!

    My daughter and I were traveling on her employee discount. The bathtub was dirty. I went to the front desk. She sad she was the only person on duty and couldn't leave the desk. I asked her for cleaning supplies and I'd clean it myself. The hotel was sold out and I couldn't change rooms. She was really happy with me. I ended up moving to that city and working in another hotel. That hotel was known for keeping a skeleton crew.

    Best revenge story...That reminded me of the time, when a group of F&B coworkers from our "luxury hotel" decided to gather at a popular mid town bar, to unwind. As it happened, one of the restaurant hostesses decided to join us grunts(kitchen and wait staff). Well...true to her reputation as an uncontrollable B, while we were on the dance floor, she sat back and decided to have a go at our waitress at this fine drinking establishment. When our group got back to our table, there was mixed drinks, beers, and water knocked over on the chairs and across 5 tables that we had pushed together, for our group. Miss B, the restaurant hostess, was nowhere to be found.
    When our waitress came back to the table to give us our tab, we asked her what happened. Allegedly, Miss B asked for a glass of water, while waiting, she grew extremely hostile. The bar was packed and they were short staffed that day. Well then, by the time the water was served, Miss B went into a full blown tirade about the poor service. She thrashed about, giving the poor, early 20s, server girl "what for". I apologized to the girl, then explained how this coworker of ours works at the front of house, in a very demanding position. (not really - she was a trainee for a managerial position) She felt entitled to 5 star service where ever she went. She thinks her 4 inch pumps, black pantsuit, and white collar blouse demands respect.
    I told our group what had happened, so it was pretty much the end of the evening for all of us. Our table was soaked with our own drinks. In my estimation, most of the staff had lost a great deal of respect for Miss B, I did.

      @@krankarvolund7771 Bull. Anybody "allergic to any and all animals" would be allergic to their food, their clothing and all of the people, (who are also animals in all but social convention). Even if such a person was vegan, the allergens would still be in their food and throughout their environment. Nope, this lady said that to get her way. Period.

      ​@@margarethorrall8621Weird things happen all the time. I have a very good friend who was tested for allergies and she had a reaction to every single one including all foods. Her doctor said they had never seen anything like it. She tries eating the foods to which she has the least reaction. As far as the woman in the story, I would venture that she'd go on a safari and ask the guides to remove all the animals because of her allergies! 😉

      ​. I was tested for allergies at the age of 4, using the scratch test method. The doctors were astounded that I reacted to absolutely everything.
      I was brought back for further testing 2 weeks later. I was tested again, but this time, sterile distilled water was used as a control. When I even reacted to that, they realized that I have dematographia, and based my other reactions based on that control. Yes, I have a number of allergies, including some animals, Sulfa-based drugs, as well as some other things, but, thank God, not chocolate!

    I worked in the hotel industry for years and learned when travelled you could ask for special requests. Doesn't hurt to ask but ask nicely and if they say no be even nicer. It is something they have no control over and honey is always better than vinegar. Also if you get an employee discount help housekeeping. Break down the bed, take out the trash, tip, and consolidate towels etc. It really helps them in busy times and they are your co-workers.

    Some hotel guest don't know how lucky they are, that the FO staff is way smarter, way more educated and is very well behaved.
    Otherwise they would end up lying on the floor with some teeth missing and dislocated jaws 😈😈😈

    Oh god reminds me of my hotel days. The only story i have is the mayors wife being told that no she was not allowed to order a strip search of the employees when her purse disappeared from the cloak room. (It was under her chair and she was honestly to entitled to realize or remember

    My husband worked for a Holiday Inn for a couple of years. We were able to use his standing to get a weekend getaway for our anniversary. I still remember all of the stipulations we had after more than 25 years.

    Oh, my gosh The snowed-in hotel story. I would want sooo much to help the housekeeping staff! I have a couple of months experience, maybe that would help! 😆No charge!!! 😝😝Put me in, Coach! Just knowing what the manager must be going through makes me anxious! 🥵

    I've dealt with all of these types of guests. I have been threatened, verbally abused, and sexually harassed. I finally left when I realized the hotel no longer supported me

    This made me happy in the early hours of the morning about halfway through my overnight shift at a hotel.
    I'd rather not ruin my good mood by thinking of the horrible stories I have gone through with entitled guests.

    Years ago a friend worked at a luxury tent camp in the middle of the Maasai Mara. Her favourite story to tell was about the customer who complained - very louidly and vigorously - that the electrified fence - about 1.5m - around the camp "spoiled the vibe", as did the armed watchmen.

    I have been in the hospitality industry for over 36 years, all at the same location . These stories basically give me PTSD due to the fact I have experienced all of them at one point or another. And yet I still keep listening! Glutton for punishment I guess.

    So I'm currently working at my first hotel job and this is my one 'horror' story. This past Saturday, we had to ban a guest for drugs and for making a mess in the room. My general manager told me that there was bodily fluids (blood, vomit, etc.) all around the room. The gentleman had a dog with him and the dog had used the bathroom in the shower their entire stay, she also said that the dog's nails are so long that he could barely walk (my GM is a HUGE animal lover and seeing this killed her), there was also pills scattered on the counter, and the guest's solution to 'fireants' in his room (there were no fireants) was to roll up the rugs and spread Goldbond powder all around the room floor. Luckily the floor is tile, so it was easier to clean than carpet. The guest that stayed in the room after had found a NUDE photo of him and his girlfriend hidden in the window that was somehow missed when the room was cleaned. I met the quest the day before this happened and I got weird vibes from him. He also thought he was staying with us for three weeks and claimed he didn't know he was checking out Saturday. Friday when I saw him, he asked if he could extend his reservation and I told him no due to us being fully booked Saturday and he had to check out on Saturday. Reflecting back on this, I'm so glad he was only there for three days instead of three weeks.

    I worked for a movie theatre we got free movie tickets to any theatre. We had the same rules also as a courtesy buy something from the snack vounter.

    My late grandmother loved to travel. If it was out of country she usually did it with her university alumni group since she was a solo traveler (she was widow) and liked the security of a group, as well as how everything was taken care of, from hotel bookings to daily activities. When she traveled within the U.S. she would often book with a travel agent for similar reasons. If she was just going out of town for one night or something then she would call one of her favorite hotels and book herself. I have NEVER seen her be rude or act entitled to service staff, wherever she went. She was always polite.

    My sisters used to both work at the same hotel and I have heard some horror stories. First of all it was more like a motel rather than an actual hotel and it was one that tended to attract a lot of seedy and sketchy people. A lot of the guests were drug addicts and one time my sister B liked found a dead body. Apparently a dude had overdosed and died right in his room. My other sister also one time had a woman come in with burns all the way up her arms and a baby that was also super badly burnt too. She might even told me what happened to them after that but I honestly can't remember. They also both worked the overnight shift so I think that also contributed to the amount of sketch people that came into the building.

      Every year, management would gather up the kitchen and wait staff of this very large hotel I worked at, to tell us that Christmas was a holiday some people get depressed over. I didn't know it was a thing, where single guests would check in to a room, then off themselves, in the bathroom or on the coat rack. We were told to report overly drunk guests and or drugged out patrons wandering the halls, of the multiple buildings on the property.
      I've never seen it, but heard stories.

    I kind of felt bad for the valet in the second story. I worked as a solo valet for valentine's day at restaurant one year and it was a major hassle. Once the cars started coming in, it was a never ending line, silver lining, the $331 I took home in tips was totally worth it. They key to survival is to breathe and not panic, as the guests are typically willing to work with you. What I found really works is numbering the return tickets in the order the guests hand them to you so you can help everyone accordingly.

    I don't get to stay in hotels very often but when i have the staff members have all been lovely. I can't imagine treating workers this way,im glad they got their revenge 😂😂

    I’m not sure why people think they can get away with antagonizing everyone around them for compensation and free stuff. Eventually, you’re either going to find someone who knows how to make your life miserable or everyone you pissed off is going to collectively look the other way and ignore standards and rules in order to get revenge on you.
    I think the metaphor is tickling a sleeping dragon?

    I’m a member of a national organization and our State chapter was holding their annual conference in a hotel that was just getting back on its feet after COVID. So you have a couple hundred women flooding the place. Needless to say, some of the services were not on par with what we had pee-COVID. My roommate and I opted not to have fresh towels and linens delivered daily because unless something untoward happened, we wouldn’t need them. We did hear others complaining and it got irritating to be honest.
    The highlight though, was when one of our group met with housekeeping. This woman has a history in hospitality herself. After the convention, she posted on our site - and copied the hotel as well - commending management AND staff for exemplary service. Her reasoning was that for the workload they had put on them, and the fact some of the staff were only weeks into the job, every single member from bottom to top put their heart into their job.
    You all put up with chaos with a smile, and I can likely count on one hand the number of times in my LIFE that I’ve been disappointed by any hotel or resort staff. So thank you !

    Quick tip: treat everyone in a service industry as if they were family (unless you tend to take advantage of family, then shame on you).
    And re the stories, I can't imagine the level of self-serving %^*ery that would allow someone to reduce someone else to tears.

    Somewhat related, we had a guest recently complain about midges (Small blood sucking flies native to Scotland) and that we needed to do something about them. I work at a hotel surrounded by trees next to a loch (Their preferred habitat).
    None of us really knew how to react to that.
    I also had one guest complain she was cold and again that I should do something about it, again this was in Scotland, in January, as she was sitting outside.

      the cold problem is rather easy fixed; just install those energy devouring terrace lamps and let her pay by the hour.
      I was for years in a hotel in New Hampshire and the hotel yearly cooperated to remove as much nests of black flies, unfortunely that year they missed a nest. We quickly learned to be in the sun and in the wind and all pitied the doormen whose workspot was the shaded windfree porch, those boys were eaten alive.

    One of my hotel co-workers got an employee rate room, threw a party in the room with his friends and later got fired due to all of the room damage. You don't want to behave badly if you're using an employee rate for a stay. Apparent he was usually a pretty good worker too. The company didn't care.

      I'm actually allergic to many animals. If one got into my room, I'd probably call for help removing it. If it was on my bedding or towels, I'd need to ask for new ones.
      Asking people to remove all the animals from a resort is mind-blowing entitlement. Even if it's not island wildlife, there are service animals around. Might need to ask to eat my breakfast out of the dining room if a service dog is present, but would never even think of asking to have one removed.

    If you think the front desk sees weird s#!t try working hotel security. I've seen homeless camps in restrooms, dining halls, stair wells and kitchens. So many people passionately hugging in the parking lots, elevators, restaurants, gardens, conference rooms, hallways and pools. Unspeakable thing done to, in and around hotel rooms and surrounding property. Stories that border on sci-fi/supernatural.

    If that woman was allergic to "all animals" then she'd be allergic to humans, too. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the opposite is more likely to be true: All humans are "allergic" to HER.

    People can ask for the strangest things. At a Goodwill Store that I shop in frequently, a lady came in and asked if they could turn off all the piped in music that could be heard throughout the entire store. She insisted that she couldn't shop in the store unless the music was off. The manager explained that it was a satellite radio feed and they couldn't turn it off. It was piped into all the stores. She refused to come in and left. 🤷‍♀️

    I was lucky enough to have a room when a storm hit an Island and air and boat service stopped. As they had a backup generator it was one of the few places with lights etc. It got full FAST!
    Instead of everybody complaining about a dozen of us chipped in and helped the staff. I even allowed 3 people to sleep in my room. One of those guests was a "Chef" and he got up early and help prepare breakfast - best french toast ever! Some older women took over the laundry and 4 young boys became bell caps and made everyone laugh (long story). The staff was full of smiles, the place packed with people meeting people and the weather was outside. The only issue over the 2 days was a debate over a scrabble word .....
    People can choose another way to deal with problems....... no Karen or Kevins for some reason or they hid.......

    My sister was at a resort in Mexico when a hurricane decided to drop by. I don't remember what year, but it was Hurricane Patricia. They took all the guests to a hospital to weather the storm. She was one of the few people who spoke Spanish. A bunch of Americans decided they would rent cars and drive back to the states. After speaking with the locals she found out that the roads outside town were dirt and would soon be mud and it wasn't a good idea to me in that part of the country anyway. She became the unofficial spokesperson for the group. They stayed, everyone was fine.

      It is...until they ask you to do 7 days a week, for two to 3 months straight. One of my coworkers broke down in tears, during her shift, in front of customers. This went on for a few hours, before management figured out it was more serious than they would want to believe it to be. The girl was sent home, but forced to return to work the next day.
