At 11:07, Unexpectedly, when you talked about games like World of Warcraft, you didn't mention that there is a Board game, published by Fantasy Flight Games, which has been discontinued for many years. The game works exactly like the video game.
HI. Are any of these quick setup and cleanup? my standard is buttons and bugs. I'm kind of scouring a list of solo board games (can be 2 player as well), thats very quick to setup and clean up. Ideally, at similar price points to BNB.
@@TheRobversion1 @@TheRobversion1 Hi! I'd say only Slay the Spire, Bullet, and Age of Civilization have decent setup and teardown. Slay the spire is pushing it a bit but it's worth it.
Those 3 reasons are exactly why I play board games rather than video games. I would also add that modern video games are no longer fun, they are a grind.
@@Azure_Death I have gone back to playing retro video games, although I don't play them very often. Another thing I forgot to mention is the multiplayer aspect. If you think back to consoles such as the super nintendo or the N64, multiplayer was a social activity. Online multiplayer now removes that social interaction. This is one of the reasons I have introduced board games to my children.
@@MrMadman864 Yeah there is still the occasional current MP game that promotes communication and teamwork like Rainbow 6 Siege but nothing that compares to N64 goldeneye or old school WoW raids. Current video games just do not create shared epic experiences as much. Good on you introducing your kids early on to board games!
I don't watch many game list videos, but I quite enjoy yours. You are good at these, and are very authentic with your opinions. Really been enjoying them. Surprised me with the #1 on this list! I had never heard of it before. For the larger games, do you tend to play one off scenarios or campaigns? I always get excited about campaigns but rarely manage to finish them. I like to bounce around game to game a lot, I guess.
Thank you! That means a lot. Happy to know you're enjoying the lists. I also have more of an affinity towards games that can be played in one-off sessions. I have a few campaign games I'm gonna try to go through between now and next year, though, but we'll see if I pull through. The only long-ish campaigns I've ever finished are Imperial Assault base game and Jaws of the Lion, but I've finished plenty of short campaign games like Dungeon Degenerates and HoMMIII.
So glad that there is a fellow Frostpunk boardgame fan! Frostpunk is such a brutal but yet immersive game, feels like every move you make will have dire consequences of managing your fledging civilization against the insurmountable cold!
That intoduction talk took me back to my early days in my table‑top adventure with... Former friends, now traitors. All I had back then was a copy of Monopoly; we had fun for a while, but it got stale quickly. A few years later, after that bitch Yolanda passed us by, they showed their true colours. To this day, I'm still livid as to what happened. I do rarely play with other people, but now more focused on solo table‑top gaming. Damn them all.
@86Disab I can see how people feel this way. However, having played the game myself, I think it flows nicely and when organised properly it isn't more cumbersome then other big strategy boardgames in my opinion.
Hi, unfortunately they are not on drivethrurpg. There used to be a makeplayingcards link but it got removed due to copyright. Here is the link to the files if you want to print them manually, or attemt to use Artscow (they don't care about copyright as much): drive.google.com/open?id=10Ij0bEWzbTuor58WuUJtDcFHq531SyCA
I am really enjoying your videos and take on games, although my tastes vastly differ. I flee puzzly games like the plague (Mage Knight or Bloodborne) because - to me - there's no feel of adventuring at all. Just brain tiring puzzles with "fantasy" cosmetics. And oh boy was I disappointed by Civilization New Dawn: I found it so limited compared to the video game (to be fair, I did not check the expansion). But hey, to each its own ! Continue the good videos 👍
I did not care for Civ a New Dawn honestly. It doesn't feel like Civ to me, and the combat in 2 player did not make me happy being steamrolled every game at the end. When my friend spreads into combat, and I keep focusing on science and culture like I do in the video game. I got my hands on the older Sid Meyer Civ board game from like 10-14 years ago, at a used auction. I've been wanting to buy that for 10 years lol. Now to make my friend play it. I love Heroes of Might and Magic III. It still feels like the video game with my nostalgia itch scratched. Yet they recognize it needs to play as a board game. So it's successful. It has a lot going on like the video game. I got Stardew Valley the board game during the very first reprint. It sold out fast. It does capture the video game well. I love the video game. However, it also has some balancing issues and Grandpa's goals don't scale well with player count. Like a 4 player game makes the legendary fish goal brutal. The crab pots are a larger problem than they should be, because bug meat was designed too rare in the board game. It was very common in the video game. This is the one boars game on the list that needs some homebrew to really shine. I have heard good things about the Mass Effect board game. Idk how Cmon's Cyberpunk will be. I'll probably never own the Resident Evil board games from Steamforged. I want all the kickstarter exclusives, which for resident evil happens to be gameplay content expansions even. I'm an all or nothing person with board games. So either an all in with all exclusive content, or I'll skip it. And at the launch of the campaign many years ago, it was too expensive for me at the time to go all in. And now it's on Ebay with the kickatarters for $750 usd, or more. I hope it gets a reprint one day.
Thanks for sharing! Yeah I used to be all in or nothing too, I know the feeling. These days I often settle for just the base game, it's usually what actually gets played in most cases for me anyway.

@@Dag2PT Yeah I mumbled a bit but that's what I meant when referring to the super out of print game 🙂
13:51 There is also the game Fields of Fire that does the same.

I loved the original Civ games. I fondly remember upgrading my throne room ☺️
Good times!
Loved this list. Chuckled at the Fallout double up. Space Empires and Tomb Raider CCG were completely new to me. Will be on the hunt for them.

Have you tried frostpunk the boardgame?
@@photoshopafficionado thank you! I haven't, or the video game. But I'll look into the boars game, I hear good things!

I have tried to buy Space Empires 4X for a long time and it is not available anywhere at a decent price.
