      Yah it is but the problem is how many moderm games are following those foot steps. I'm talking about the whole set the game in high price, release it in a broken state and fix it later mentality I don't think it's a good thing.

    • @NowlZeoPlus
      @NowlZeoPlus Год назад +35

      My point is of course not encouraging to set on the "release it broken, fix it later" mentality, sorry if it wasn't being to clear since I can't pretty much set up a words to speak what I think 🙏
      All I'm saying is, this is going to be a story which I think everyone will remember and look back to, people can learn from this mistakes and set up a new point of views. This "engoodening" story itself makes me respect what they have done with the game now but it doesn't mean I can gloss over of what they have "promised". For my point of view based on what I gather from the 2 sides of the story from the video, + if I compare it with another studios, I just have to give them a proper salute seeing them being respectful and very close to the community even until now.
      Just like reading or listening to folkstories, a journey that is so awful, but still, you can't help to pick up the good moral conclusion from it.
      from my honest heart, that's the sort of mentality that I have now
      I still have some of my thoughts but I can't put it to words, but hey you guys can change my mind or straighten me up if it's not the kind of opinion that you wanted or something to add, I'm all ears :D

      @Much_Ado Год назад +13

      @@NowlZeoPlus I respect that, and I appreciate that you are civil with your opinion and explanation (i realize that my initial response could have been taken as slightly accusatory).
      I do think the good of this story is also important and shouldn't be forgotten; it's an excellent example of how it's possible for one to atone after messing up so incredibly royally. I just think that it's equally as important to make sure it's _blindingly_ clear that, no matter how impressive a redemption Hello Games had, the story of No Man's Sky should absolutely remain a cautionary tale to general gaming audiences to keep expectations in check and to wait for reviews to come in before buying games. There are plenty of big gaming companies who would not have put any where near this kind of effort into repairing things, and it's crucial that they do not get the impression that they could get away with that.

      Hey, I know this is a really random thing to ask a random stranger but I literally haven't thought about NMS in years and seeing this video, and this comment, just compelled me to ask.
      What do you enjoy about it?
      To preface, my history with NMS is one of tempered expectations. When the hype train was speeding down the tracks, I was watching from the sidewalk having a cup of tea. When it came out, I was disappointed not so much at the game or the devs, but at the fact that once again my skepticism was proven right. I sighed, said "I told you so" to a couple of my friends, and went about my day mostly unaffected. When I saw Internet Historian's video on it and everyone else saying the game was fixed, I gave it a shot with a full open mind, excited to support these devs who actually poured their blood sweat and tears to make a good game despite everything they were put through. After some 10 hours, I put the game down and I never loaded it up again.
      It was certainly a solid game, and it was obvious how much they fixed and added. But at its core, it felt to me like it was still that loop that IH described in the first half of the video: Gather resources, get an upgrade, move on. Now, I'm a big fan of survival-crafting games with mostly that exact loop, but something about NMS - even with the base building, even with the alien spaceports, even with everything that I feel like I SHOULD have enjoyed, and do enjoy in other games - it just felt like an empty skybox with some random rocks floating in it. I felt no motivation to explore different planets after the first handful of randomly generated rocks, no motivation to follow the main story past the first couple cryptic clues, no motivation to interact with the cool aliens. All things that usually speak to me in games. I can't help but feel like it was ME who was wrong for feeling that, somehow, despite going into it with a full open mind and looking forward to seeing my pessimism brushed away by Hello Games' hard work.
      Obviously you can't tell me how or why it is that I didn't enjoy it, but I hope that maybe if you can just articulate to me what exactly made you love this game for over 4000 hours, maybe I'll be able to get a different perspective that will allow me to pull it back up on Steam and actually be able to connect with it.

      @@marcog.verbruggen674
      I can't speak for the other guy, but I have about 2K hours. It's mostly just making my own things to do: I built a giant landing platform just because I can, I have an enormous Hauler which I've minmaxed to the point it has 1,800 Maneuverability, etc. Like, the game won't give you goals and I can see how you'd get bored endgame if you're just gathering resources with nothing in mind for how you're going to use them.
      I would point out there's a lot of idle time from ship-hunting in any long-tike player's game: I imagine at least a double-digit number of my in-game hours were me alt-tabbed doing something else and going back to see if an S-class ship had landed at a station or trade port.

      @@LiquidFireN2X Hello games, an indie studio was still able to do much more than most triple A companies after a disastrous launch. I'm much more willing to empathize with an indie studio failing to deliver a full game at launch and slowly working to finish the game and add more stuff, even though they could have ran with the money, than a triple A studio who has no business releasing half finished games with a thousand more employees. And unlike every other company, they never added payed DLC or microtransactions. They remained honest and truthful and took full blame for their failings. Since this channel is your video games centric channel I would 100% recommend The Fall of 76 after the Engoodening of No Man's Sky. 😁

    He doesn't have a ton of videos because they obviously take a lot of time and effort to make, but they are damn hilarious.

    Looks like this is your first Internet Historian video, and a very good place to start… this is probably the first video where he showed his capabilities as a documentarian. “The Fall of 76” was the video that really put him on the map as a creator, as lots of streamers and RUclipsrs reacted to it; but while still a very good documentary it is also a bit more of a meme video as well.
    If you decide to react to more of his content, I would say that things earlier than Fall of 76 tend to be shorter and much more meme-like… mini-docs about big moments in meme culture and such. His vids after this one become more epic in scope and at times more serious while still maintain his meme style humor. He still tackles some Internet culture topics, but his vids “The Cost of Concordia” and “Man in Cave” could really be considered full-fledged documentaries as well.
    Whichever direction you head next, it’s good stuff… and if you enjoyed the bit with the erotic fanfic at the end, there’s similar content to be found on his Incognito Mode channel. Sonic the Hedgehog fanfic, Harry Potter fanfic and creepypastas all given similar treatment… 😆
    Loved the reaction, and looking forward to more~!

    I think the issue with NMS fans was they expected a AAA game from an indie studio. Anyone else see the problem here? However I’m glad they were lambasted the way they were, because if not for that we’d have never gotten the masterpiece it is today.

    technically it was "multiplayer" at the time.
    since people can change planets/plants/lifeforms/rocks and other stuff names. so if someone else find the same planet - they can see someone else has found it first.
    That is "technically" multiplaying - it is player interaction. just not live multiplayer interaction.
