- It's the first Tuesday of the month, so that means it's time for more free Unreal Engine stuff! Each month Epic Games gives away a number of assets for Unreal Engine developers and this May 2024 is no exception. This month we have 5 new assets that are yours to keep forever if "purchased" before the first Tuesday in June.

The scifi base kit is where it's at. The stylized tokyo not so much imo

I do like the Tokyo Asset but I dont like how the Japanese Signs are not really Japanese I looks to be all gibberish lol. But I still think it looks great!
Yeah it seems to be AI generated. Trying to read them and there just being nothing real there is upsetting
Shua mentioned on his art station page that it is made up, I don't think we should automatically assume the text is AI without further proof of it being so. It's just made up text lol

The 6 Enviroment bundle looks cheap af cheaper than a LOT of free pack ot there

The fact that they intentionally put the sci fi environement pack in the home page of the shop for a month even thaugh they knew the would make it free is wild

I've wondered one thing with the monthly free assets from Unreal, do the creators of the assets still get paid by i.e. Epic when we "buy" them for free? Is it a program they have to like sign into when uploading the asset, i.e. to participate at a discounted rate paid by Epic? I'm assuming there must be some sort of compensation for it to be fair.
The Tokyo asset looks nice, it even features a train that drives though the city at regular intervals. The scale is only slightly off - if you look at Many and the doors or bikes. It has its style that seems nice and consistent.
For the dark room you could turn off lumen on the project for the demo. What I suspect is the editor is not doing the transition from when you go in and out, because the assets might be 1 sided and its dark outside. That happened to me a few times in tests. Sometimes just right click and Play from Here to see if the engine does the transition for the luminosity from going in and out of a place kicks in or not.
You dont actually transition though, they are two completely different levels. I honestly think they changed default lighting values somewhere around UE 5.1 and now and it makes newer projects darker than they were intended.
@@gamefromscratch Ah I didn't run into that issue, but if the assets are 1 sided and the exterior is not rendered, the dominant light would be the sky, so if it's dark, it does trigger that. At least, it was my case a few times :P
Not enough foliage
I'm guessing your editor has manual exposure settings as you keep changing exposure on every project. Top left of the viewport there is a button saying "Lit", within that there's exposure settings towards the bottom, ensure "Game settings" is checked, hopefully that fixes your exposure problem for all projects you ever open.

EDIT- Tried, nope, not that. Setting was already enabled, had no effect.
I go back to my original theory that the lighting model has changed between recent UE versions.
That's a shame it didn't work. Alternatively right underneath it, if you instead disable the "game settings" there's a simple exposure slider, that can potentially simplify the quick brightness control for showing things fast as you should be able to control it with that slider alone too.

Interested to combine the Multi Pack Bundle and the Grabbable Meshes. Make a kind of Modifiable Forest Environment to play in. 🤔
These are awesome. I really hope they throw in some mobs at some point though. I have all these assets, and all I want is mobs for a tower defense game. Tiny robots, or insects, or even those command and conquer type troops. I've been trying to make them myself but I'm trash at it
I have tried the Modular SciFi environment what looks very nice. But in play mode with UE character the scale seems a bit unnatural and some stairs cannot be walked but needs jumping to navigate.

Why does it look laggy? Unoptimized assets?
He wants to showcase the assets looking their best, so all settings are likely maxed, with lumen active. That is very demanding and reasonable to expect low performance (sub 30 fps).
Epic giving us the assets this month so we can all recreate a better version of Starfield than what we got!
Can these be used in UEFN?
If I buy some of the free assets this month when the month ends I need to pay these assets?

I mean, it'd be sweet if their change password website actually worked...i tried to get last months...of course i forgot my password...but the link they send to my e mail...does absolutely nothing 🤣🤣🤣...man i can't remember a password for NOTHING...
The Environment bundle 6 maps feels like assets created during a training session. All maps lack details, even the assets are very simple. The engine room is too small to navigate with Many, the Tomato city is non existent and Forglar map is made of few assets with a glass dome, that neither fit the style nor is it actually glass and transparent. If you have expectation for quality based on the original price tag, this feels as a disappointment and I feel sorry for anyone who actually purchased it.
I have Exams this month so I may or may not continue gamedev.

How do you classify your assets when your library gets bigger and bigger? Is there any utility for that, or that might help? Is there any batch downloader for local storage or something? Thanks for any help!
