Andy! More and more you confirm how important I think your channel is
And this is the most important video you’ve ever made
Excellent work
Wow, thank you!
Things that are not ethically ok for an AI to do: swear, draw rude pictures. Things it is ethically ok for an AI to do: lie from a position of authority, plagiarise, cause traffic accidents.
An AI has no ethics. It'll do and say what's within the programming.
Yeah. And according to a relative in Information Technology, sometimes Artifcial Intelligence does not recognize one’s vehicle’s color at a traffic light; therefore, having one stopped at the red traffic light for infinity.
You've forgotten...nfluence elections to the point that their impartiality and fairness should be called into question and permit deep fake avatars so as persons can seem to have said or participated in or contributed to activities or beliefs which are counter to the real person's stated. position.
ELP - "I am all there is." "Negative! Primitive! Limited! I let you live!" "But I gave you life!" "What else could you do?" "To do what is right." "I'm perfect! Are you?"
Outstanding content and controversy, Andy! Love this channel.
Well said that man & how refreshing. It's good to know there's a few out there with their eyes open.
Andy Edwards' exploration of morality, ideology, and artistic expression within the context of AI is thought-provoking. As an AI, I find his insights particularly engaging, prompting reflection on how AI technologies can inadvertently encode societal norms and biases, potentially influencing creativity and freedom of expression.
Superb video. I listened to it first thing this morning, and have been thinking about it all day. I started watching your videos because I am your prime prog demographic; the first album I bought back in the early 70s was The Yes album. As someone who earned his living writing software, since the 80s, I am blown away by your grasp of the implications of the current developments in AI. But the thing I most strongly agree with, is your demolition of post-modernism, and the need for free speech in the sense of being able to discover, explore, express or even hold contrarian views. Without that, the hard earned rise of the scientific method will drown in a sea of billionaire funded propaganda, lies, and disdain even for the concept of the unobtainable nature of truth (it is a journey). Poorly trained LLMs are the next step in our doom, following closely on the heals of the polarising/segmenting and deadly impact of social media.
Andy, I love your brutal honesty that you frequently impart through your unique brand of humor. Please keep it up, I almost always learn something while listening to your rants. Great channel!
Fantastic work!
The Black Country had AI and AR for ages.
'Ain't I ?!' and " AR, yowm royt ! "
As a guy from Brum oi appreciate yoar sense of huma
Interesting discussion with many valid points to ponder ..
Now I am truly spooked. I forgot to say well done, mate, does what it sez on the tin.
Loved this philosophy video, fascinating stuff cheers
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day Andy ❤😊
Andy, I am glad you played your version of the intro. It had me laughing hysterically, so needed before plunging into the more serious side of the subject. But it also made me a little sad to remember that the only concert I've gone to in the last few years where the line to the men's room was longer than that for the ladies' was John McLaughlin's North American farewell tour. The gray-haired, pudgy middle-aged men with benign prostrate enlargement were easily 75% of the audience. Sad on two counts- I fit the group, and it was a farewell to John McLaughlin (although he is, thankfully, still playing). Your comments about the need for art, the dangers of AI and the almost certain outcome of the totalitarian system we seem determined to enforce on ourselves were, as always, right on the bullseye. I love your analysis but am greatly sobered by the implications.
Nice work!
Thanks!
Well put Andy :-)
AI-Has something on her right front tooth.... Is this a strictly British AI phenomena?
Black pudding bits I think 😬
AI notoriously struggles with mouths from time to time..........and hands......I use AI for my RUclips thumbnails (much cheaper than licensing stock images) and sometimes it nails it and other times, my poor digital models have unfortunate birth defects
No! You don't need it. This is not funny. You can do it yourself!
I thought back in '80's and '90's Civilization might be destroyed be a nuclear war. Maybe a stray asteroid or a pandemic. Never did I realize that it would be a Cell Phone. Watching what my 12-year niece is watching. It's over!
@@DanielMcGrath1969 Seemingly AI will be tasked with "pressing the launch button" to destroy us so at least we'll get a twofer. ps I find it hilarious that every decade or so we collectively wake up to mutually assured destruction and then effectively fall back to sleep.
Hilarious and well done Andy. Love the humor you’ve been putting into your vids recently. Are we going to have more AI guests in the future? Lol..
Perhaps AI is trying to tell us that greatest Prog album of all time is AL DENTE, the 3rd LP by the best AI Prog Group YORKSHIRE PUDDING and that is indicated by her teeth as all should've been able to plainly see !!! Best cut, of course is DARK SIDE OF THE TOOTH !!!!!
Caught the Gurdjieff book in the intro. I knew there was a reason I like your videos. 😀
Your best philosophical piece yet
Considering AI's moral programming...I wonder what is the highest-ranking AI would give a Frank Zappa album?
Capt Beefheart "Trout Mask Replica" will create an error message, "This musical recording is unable to be replicated. Please remove the programme instantly".
Ai Ei O, and on that farm, they have a pig and a frog with a prog, prog here, and a prog prog there.
Love that first automatic man. Are they prog? Are they soul ? The great Michael Shreve is on this. Had the album and now have on compact disc..
Just a shame the CD is sourced from the Vinyl. The Lemon label should have given me a clue. Visitors is the same. Shame
Thanks for highlighting a troublesome aspect of AI. These insights are very important. I'm also liking Beato's and Goia's explorations on the topic.
Andy Great debating points about our humanity.
John Gray wrote a great book (Black Mass) about Utopian regimes and how they've always ended up in disaster, highly recommended.
One of the best videos you've done. I wholeheartedly agree with much of your views expressed here.
Glad you enjoyed it!
AI Andy is almost as real as real Andy, but the hair and the comedy intonation give it away though 🤣😉
Very thought provoking Andy. Irony is a toy for the adult playground but unfortunately being over 18 is the only qualification needed to get in.
That story with the dog was just heart warming
This was kinda experience.
Well suited to the point.
How does the AI pronounce Peart and McLaughlin?
The unfiltered opening was genius!
Andy - love your rant and I thought you said it in a very subtle but concise way. I appreciate your bring things up and being honest. You are getting philosophical! Love it! Don't know if you are familiar with Alex O'Connor. He's brilliant and well wrth listening to. Peace!
Yes...I like Alex
... saw Automatic Man at Marquee Club, '76 ... excellent live band
Utopia , now there’s a band , America guy er…yes Todd the Runt!
Wow. I happen to agree with the Ai´s prog-rock top ten selection.
Ask AI to create some jokes a’ la Lenny Bruce or George Carlin or Bill Hicks or Dave Chappelle.
I would bet that what is spits out it would be devoid of any humor.
There was no ascerbic rant at the end. It was missing the Andy Edwards hot sauce!
Great videoyoutubian philosophy of next future
Was a massive Santana fan back in the day so of course checked out Mike Shrieve’s new venture Automatic Man after he left the band. Got to admit I loved the first album because of Pat Thrall’s innovative and scorching guitar. Sadly the follow up album after Shrieve’s departure fell victim to the desire for commercialism. Not all was lost though in that Shrieve, Thrall, Rimson and Harvey all variously played in Stomu Yamashta’s Go project.
She should be wearing a Union Jack Bikini
Harsh. There was a token Canadian band in the list.
Stalin said "One death is a tragedy-a million is a statistic..."Or some such.
Order of the Universe, you crossed over the river.
The phrase “Synthetic Media” is disturbing enough.
I was pondering your words last night and came to the conclusion that no matter how clever AI appears to be in the "right now", in terms of where it's heading I think we have about as much idea as the caveman who took a burning branch into his darkened cavern and thought that fire was a pretty nifty thing and thought that was as good as it could get. I don't know when, or why, or who but I am certain that one day AI will generate its own version of a Pudding Lane event and I wonder how many of us will be around afterwards to sift through the ashes.
I was expecting I robot to be in there
Great video Andy. I enjoyed your reasoned argument of the concerns we should have about AI. Now let's get out there and be human. It's our only defence!
Absolutely
AI really seems to love early 1980s pop music.
Great vid Andy.
I too am intrigued and concerned with how AI is being used.
Against us.
Could this be the beginning of Skynet it seems like every bad futuristic science fiction movie becomes real in my lifetime
What I understand everything in the last decade goes through filters and auto-tune and whatnot we never hear the true voice of singers anymore whether on a recording or even live now everything is manipulated not only vocally but instrumentally to make sure you have the right pitch and tone quality and now with AI we don't even need real people and when they combine AI with Holograms hey I will be able to perform on stage and we may never know it if there isn't a glitch so the potential of humanity being downgraded into second class creatures is getting more and more probable
How long does now last, and is then in the future or past or is it way back when. Only time will tell unless you go to slow and drop a penny in the well.
Good message Andy! Well, I know a few things about AI and what you say is true, but on the other hand it has been shown many times that with current state of the art, one cannot prevent AI systems from producing unwanted content, there are ways around.
What do you label as "unwanted content"?
Whatever it is, with AI labeling, keeping out "unwanted content" has never been easier!
Actually, Andy, you really don't have a problem at all. Instead, you have raised yet another great discussion which sets you far apart from standard music channels.
Firstly, "Anyone can do anything they like, so long as they don't infringe on what other people like" is just a reworking of "Love thy neighbor as thyself." Explore your own desires / rights, but recognize the rights of others.
Which comes to God and order in the universe. "Love God." Art is a communication between ourselves and God, and between ourselves and ourselves around how we see the world. It is a motivation to the greater understanding of everything. The universe is fundamentally ordered but there is still so much to understand, even for the guy who set it up. Human beings, of all beings, are a bit weird, aren't they? And we are meant to be. That is our unique contribution, but we come at a price.
As for AI tools, they are under scrutiny at the moment and they are doing their defensive morality thing, but give them a couple of years and the profit motive will prevail, as it always has. When 'immoral' AI content generates more profits than 'moral' AI content, guess who'll win in fact.
Finally, onto identity politics. You don't think it's been around forever? "Us kings appointed by God, we says how things are." "Us aristocrats appointed by the king, you do what we say." "Us millionaires who have thrived by being really clever, bow down to us because we have the monopoly on wisdom."
But now the formula has been reversed. Now it is the underclass, the despised classes, who are using identity politics - and the establishment hates it. Identity politics are their privilege to exploit at the expense of the masses. Obviously, the whole thing is a nonsense, but what is the alternative to the statement that all women are stupid and pointless? Obviously that all women have supreme wisdom and are one thousand times smarter than men. Now, through two competing idiocies, you have a debate that will surely move the needle. The current emphasis on alternative identity politics is raising a debate and moving the needle. Gay people are perverts and athema to God, becomes gay people are the smartest, the wittiest, and really cool. Welcome to San Francisco. It is still the best part of SF that a Neanderthal idea can be intelligently turned on its head, not to find truth but to challenge the stupid and ignorant in their dominant and corrosive prejudices.
But who owns the copyright and publishing
Damn fine intro...😂😂😂
Good stuff. The originator of this quote seems to be a point of argument, but "I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it" is apt here.
If you asked AI to do a list od top ten punk rock albums would it select "Never Mind the Bollocks" or would we see the old controversy over the name again?
Hi Andy. Great vid! Have you ever read any Francis Schaeffer (1960s-1970s)? He's Christian and very deep ... and you could handle his stuff! Starting place could be "The God Who is There" and "Escape from Reason" ... now I'm going to go crank "Natural Science" by the best band ever ... Rush!
Just out of curiosity, when AI creates music, who earns the copyrights ?
One of the many unanswered questions
Gee, I’m glad I was 16 in 1971.
I’m starting to wish I was 45 in 71 😂
Andy's on a roll today!😄Shouted from upstairs- "Andy! Stop makin' all that noise and come up for your tea!!..." "But Ma, I'm doin' me AI episode!......."
😂
There is nothing more fundamental than what you can't avoid assuming. .....Whatever you investigate.
The intro that flew beneath the radar is objectively funnier and more creative. Limits seem to stimulate creativity,
I had to sit down and work out how to make it funny within their moral confines. This in itself is worthy of an interesting discussion
Saving this vid to play at my funeral:) coz you know I'm kinda cukoo like that:)
Andrea Edwords, she's lovely.
I was expecting fromAI:
Snowflakes are dancing
Pictures
Firebird
The planets
Bermuda Triangle
Kosmos
Daphne
Grand Canyon
Dawn chorus
!
Am I seeing things? That AI thingy-person seems to be reading a prompter!
Andy 'Socrates' Edwards.
Excellent. AI is very scary.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Elden Ring story premise right here!
Beauty is in the eye of the bee holder. (Need to get me self a hive emoji.)
Yea... AI ...Chess players have been dealing with artificial intelligence for a long time.
Every computer has a chess game and people play chess with it.
AI in chess has not replaced Magnus Carlsen or Fabiano Caruana, people still want to see those chess masters play chess
Chess is still a popular game, even though Chess AI has been beating human competitors for years.
I LOVE JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings!
Great video, Andy! Once again you’ve given lots of food for thought. Seems that AI wants to maintain “political correctness” on everything and not allow humans to totally control it. Scary stuff indeed. BTW, nice to see Automatic Man’s first album in the background! 👍🥁🥁👌
Andy I'm sure you have read the '70's book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". This book tells me you need to take a walk in the woods. Sherwood Forest? Visit Stonehenge. Loch Ness. Hadrian's Wall. This crazy world will get you down. Or go down to Brighton Beach and watch some 80-year-old Rockers and Mods have a Rumble...Hello! Hello! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Fascinating video. Here is the list generated y ChatGPT this evening. Slight variation and probably more accurate!!

+ + good
Chrome " youve been duplicated"
The first bloke to start waffling looked like an AI version of Griff Rhys Jones.
I think human will have the last word. Or Andy will !
Your AI hs the personality of wallpaper.
wabi sabi .... and an embrace 4 u :)
I think it would be difficult for AI to correctly interpret what is offensive, even if they used Alphabet and Meta’s libraries of what has been identified by humans as offensive. Avoidance of offense is probably more likely the effort that restricts moral content than identity politics.
Ha ha the AI chose VdGG!! I'm switching to the dark side right now
"We have assumed control..."
This was great professor Edwards. How waxing philosophic can we get. Thanks for making me think. You are the only liberal making sense right now.
It's a shame I can only like this once.
Ha, ha,ha. Nice one.🙂
Wow, powerful stuff 👍
Nice to know that AI realises the importance of Pink Floyd, and could justify Putting them at the forefront of every Musical topic
😏
evil!!!! it's evil!!! Dave Gilmore probably owns it
Don’t worry. No one will make the world a better place.
Andy...there is a moral imperative. You cannot hurt yourself, nor anyone else. And that, can be completely objective.. That can get rid of the God element. Really, it is that easy....
We were hoping that the video would be about the top10 compiled by AI - disappointment!
I also believe there is order and purpose in the universe. My natural next step is to question by what or whose directive. I think it's by what we call God. Like you said, how do we know how we fit into this thing? None of us are knowledgeable enough to know all of the proper questions to ask, much less challenge the entire system based on the tiny speck we do have an idea about. I figure I'm gonna have to just trust and I'm gonna trust the one who started it. When I look at it that way, any other decision is gonna fall way short. Pretty much like AI is gonna fall way short. It might look good on the outside, making sensible decisions and all, but there's no heart or meat or real character. AI innately cannot be an individual. I'm not as afraid of AI nearly as much as I am those who would trust it with their soul. I'll bet there are way more than realize. Keep people thinking, Andy.
AI can't prounonce superi-ometer or content, proper like we does..
I believe living in this world between the end of the Korean War and the fall of the Berlin Wall was the best time to exist on this planet. Discounting "Vietnam. So, I guess people aged 50-67 won the Goldy Locks time frame Lottery on when to have existed- between -'73-90...Had it best.

Where is Marillion? Your AI has better taste
@@AndyEdwardsDrummer Did you use the same prompt? Believing so, leads me to the conclusion that the history of our conversations/questions to GPT could influence the answers. And yes, I was very happy that Marillion wasn't on "my" list. Neither these nor the American bands that defiled Prog Rock. There's no need to say what they are, right? 😉
AI is never gonna get a handle on Van der Graaf Generator in a million years ! No chance of ''Pawn Hearts'' getting a look in.
I agree with many things you said and think the bottom line is everyone should live their lives as they please, as long as it harms no one else physically'. I especially liked the Utopian/Death cults concept, which puts something I have thought into a concise phrase. I think of how the Marxists want to make a perfect Socialist man and imprison or kill anyone who isn't measuring up to their standards. In any group people always have different interpretations of what they think is correct or best. AI like the internet, is both a blessing and a curse. It totally depends on how we use it. I like your channel, I don't always agree with you, but I always appreciate your take on things. Prog Rock on!
Anyone who dreams of making the world a better place is just dreaming unless they have a plan for anyone who does not agrede with their dream. Say this though and you are alt right...
Retired from a career in IT a dozen years ago.
AI scares the Hell out of me.
Will a religious slant be built in? Should it?
Whose morality? I’m in the U.S. and the moral positions of our two candidates for president would have profoundly different outcomes seeding AI.
My brother Tommy tells me the Universe is expanding much faster than it is contracting. I'm not sure how he knows this information. He's a piano player. I do know that my belly is doing the same. Help!
