Yup. All my close friends and their families got COVID around the holidays and they claimed they were “being safe”. How many times does dr. Fauci has to get on TV and say the same damn thing to avoid ANY gatherings?! sadly my BFF’s grandmother died as a result though everyone else recovered. I secretly blame her. She has to recognize she played a role.

I think this year they had plenty of time to regroup and really figure out stuff like writing to everyone’s strengths. Plus most of this cast is several years deep into working together at this point so the chemistry is at or near its peak.

Lol. We’ve had the same group of friends all year. Then some of those had to be cut off bc they started getting a little too comfortable with others lol. We had to keep our pod tight knit.
I don’t even HAVE a pod. Because THIS. My mom does water aerobics-they don’t take their masks off until they get in the water. And my autistic brother just had to live with her. Friends with autoimmune disease who see their parents who have outside drinking parties-people are really good following directions when they’ve been drinking 🙄. And “just saw him once” at Christmas (inside, mask less). No I’m not coming to see you. My pre-existing conditions are cancer & heart disease. My other brother, too (yes, we’re both youngish with cancer & heart disease). But we won’t get shots for a month. Or two.

Here in IOwa our Governor lifted the mask mandated for the Super Bowl. But that is ok. We are ranked 47th in vaccine distribution and at one time ranked the worst in the world in new cases. What could go wrong?

My family is in LA where Covid first hit in the U.S. and I know so many people now who have died, ranging from 30s to 60s. And half of them were healthy.
I even had a 19 year old cousin who ended up in the hospital on a ventilator twice. She’s thin and healthy and we were all shocked.
And this new variant is supposed to be even more contagious and deadly.

@Betty Boop I also know many people who just got mild symptoms. Some didn’t feel anything at all. But there have been too many that have died or nearly died or been left with lingering symptoms.
I am not stirring up hysteria. I am saying that the risk of dying or getting damage from this virus is real. Even if you’re young and healthy which has been the biggest surprise to me.

For sure. I know people who live alone who spent months without seeing anyone in-person other than strangers at the grocery store. I'm glad they're protecting everyone's health, but humans aren't meant to live like that.

@@Keranofkri Good thing this isn't the flu. The current rate of death in the US is 2.67%, while the flu is only .1%. So practically 27 times more deadly than the flu. Then you have the long term complications for many people who survive. A coworker of mine got covid in July and still couldn't taste or smell 6 months later. He's 19.
There's also:
• Fatigue
• Shortness of breath
• Cough
• Joint pain
• Chest pain
Other long-term signs and symptoms may include:
• Muscle pain or headache
• Fast or pounding heartbeat
• Loss of smell or taste
• Memory, concentration or sleep problems
• Rash or hair loss
And can we talk about covid toe?
But a good thing it's only the flu, right...

This is so true... out of the friends I know who have gotten covid: 1) From her mom who got it from her DANCE instructor. 2) from her kid who brought it home from DAYCARE. 3) From her husband who is a firefighter who was just "HANGING out with the guys in the firehall". 4) From his wife & kid who brought it home from an external LEARNING class. 5) From a post "extremely"-small WEDDING gathering. All have recovered but a few still don't have taste or smell back 4-6 months later.
That smell taste is permanent in some people because the virus destroys the olfactory nerve. I know an 18 year old girl who lost smell/taste when the virus first struck in March.

People spout the 98% or 99% recovery rate like it's not that serious. Well, they don't think about the chronic issues people STILL have. Like that, breathing issues, or blood clots...MONTHS LATER!
@@mr.carguy3161 My boss has claimed only .02% of people die from it, and later him and his brother have made the claim that 99.97% of people survive. That would make it less deadly than the flu. And you can't tell them the real truth, they don't listen. One of my co-workers, who is like 19, got it back in July, he finally got his taste and smell back after xmas. Who knows what other permanent ailments he will find out about later. Lungs, heart, brain...everything seems to be potentially effected.

My cardiologist died from this. He was a healthy guy. Some people get chronic symptoms that are very nasty. Most don't but that's just luck. Want to play Russian Roulette with your life?

I heard so many people say "I'm being so good in quarantine" just to find out how lax their safety standards really are. And they don't get it.
And as an essential worker with 1400 co workers. I've done absolutely nothing to be safe over a cold with a 99.9 percent recovery rate. Yet I only know two people that caught it and shocker? Are fine. Said it was a cold. #WakeUp

And letting covid spread freely means it will evolve quickly into more dangerous variants. The UK covid variant is 70% more contagious and 30% more deadly. More variants coming because we don't mask. The "original covid" will be a walk in the park compared to the new versions we incubated due to our not following science by masking. Not a cold.

Also what are we up to as far as things testing positive for covid I know a red bull, a papaya, a goat, I can of Coca-Cola, have all tested positive but I'm sure I'm forgetting tons of other things.

No lockdown in my state and I'm doing fine..
Lockdowns will work if the government pays people to stay at home. Australia and other countries paid residents a liveable wage to stay at home. This covered bills, ultitilies, etc. it wasn't perfect. But at least you didn't have to pick whether you paid for rent or bought groceries for the month.

If there's ever a time to get in debt or spend any savings, it's now during a pandemic. This is not time to be penny wise and dollar foolish. At this time its a tough call because virus is so spread. But at the beginning when there were less cases it would have been easier to contain spread by people staying home let's say for 2 months. But here we are a year later with more debt and more deaths

@@billyhawe3916 The research we have suggests that they block a lot of the spit that flies through the air when you speak, and that COVID is primarily transferred through that spit. They've found cloth masks that fit properly (snugly) block about as much spit as surgical masks. Not as much as an N-95 mask of course, but not nothing. More recent research suggests that it's even more effective if you wear a surgical mask under a cloth mask.
Does it block all of the virus? No. But the cool thing about public health is we don't need to block all of the virus to have a really powerful effect.
