I bought a bike with a Z1 on it, expecting to swap it out with my 38. Rode it once, loved it, two months down the line, I've still not swapped it, and I've put the 38 up for sale 😂 pleasantly surprised, it just works.

yeah i just rode a z1 coil and its surprisingly very good, while a bit heavy its prolly better than the more expensive forks (36, lyrik...). maybe not better than the 38/zeb but thats quite a bit of money saving.

Similar. I sold my X2 factory for the bomber air. No ragrets. I do still have the slightest preference for lyrik over bomber z1, but not enough to matter.

I’m new to high quality FS bikes and am looking at the new Ripmo AF with the Z1 fork. I’ve seen people talk about how it’s so planted and smooth, but not as poppy and heavier than the DVO air fork on the prior Ripmo models. Does this fork still jump well while not being so heavy it start to be a drag? Not sure if I should get the new or old Ripmo. Any input is appreciated!

I feel like marzocchi has always made suspension and forks for people that jump everything. The open bath zs and dropoff forks were amazing for their time and alot of them still feel good to this day

I love Marzzochi's new Generation. I currently own three of there products. The Legendary Bomber Z1 fork; I absolutely love it. I also have the there Bomber CR rear coil and the new Bomber Air rear shock (on a bike I have up for sale). I loved all three products and I am lucky I work in the industry so I got them at discount. To put simply, I rode fox, I rode Rock shox Ultimate, I rode DVO, cane creak and even Ohlins....they are all great but for my Riding style Marzzochi Is the brand I'm sold too. If your a hard hitting weekend shreader who wants no fuss and all ride....its Bomber or nothing.

I've been running the Z1 fork (160 travel) & Bomber Air shock (210x52.5) for the last 4 months on my gen two levo. Gotta be honest, my levo's never felt better (and I've ran premium Fox & Rockshox suspension on this bike). I think the take away feature (for me) regarding the Marzocchi suspension is that they cater for the heavier rider 'or the heavy-handed rider' who just wants to ride without compromising on time spent dialing in suspension and not achieving the same result in terms of progression, compared to a lighter rider (even after maxing out volume spacers or tokens).
    Great vid Drew 👍🏿

I have two identical Ripmo AFs, one with a DVO Onyx at 170 for myself, and another with a Z1 at 170 for my son. The Onyx is great, once you have everything set up right. The Z1 is so much easier to dial in because there's not much to set up. Less if more. It's just more fun.

I just built a new ride with a Manitou Mezzer Expert. After 4 rides, the simplicity of a fork without all the bells and whistles is a nice change. They just work.

32, 34, 36, 38 ... volume spacers... Marzocchi treating riders like recreational dirt riders - set it and for get it is more fun that you know! I've been messing with forks since Judy SL #1 - remember elastomer springs? hahahaha! Hell I'm still running a 2008 Roco tst2 AIR and Bomber 55 air with TST - are they perfect ? no but I get them to do what I need after a few hacks. This came in time seeing how well over $2,000 just for forks and shock is crazy for a avg rider. Over kill and not needed. I'm surprised there aren't more aftermarket fork kits for better conversions, like better speed sensitive valving that actuality works. But what do I know? Everyone what to be a racer !

What is it like compared to the Lyric and Zeb? The Select models have simple adjustments and are in the same price point as the Marz, and probably lighter. I always rode Fox, but I am a Rock Shox convert now.

    Let me get this straight.
If I want a set-and-forget fork, with all benefits of Fox availability, and durability and ownership being most important, this is THE fork ?
Thinking about a 150mm as upgrade. Let's face it. Too weighty and too amateur to being bothered about the fiddley bits and small weight differences to Fox, for the few rides I get... 😅

Great forks. Until the bushings fail prematurely, which has happened with both my Marzocchi and Fox 36 Rhythm forks sub-700 miles. Both warrantied, but I don’t have much faith in this version of the GRIP damper.

  • @ucdis

I dislike my z2. I disliked the fox 36 for the same reason. They harsh. Removing Volume spacers helps a little. The hsc and lsc on my fox had to be adjusted every time the temperatures changed 10 degrees. My z2 hates cold weather. The z1 coil is tempting but at 700$ it’s crossed in to the non budget range. The lyric I replaced my z2 with has been much more compliant and supple and predictable. The DVO onyx I replaced my 36 with is absolutely amazing. I have no gripes with the fox rear shocks but their forks are starting to seem dated. And the idea of “Budget” is a little out of range for most riders to just upgrade. 90% of riders stick with their OEM forks until they buy a new bike.

@@425flex I run the bomber coil and the z1 170mm air on my focus jam2 emtb, I ride it hard as well and the forks hold up amazing but do require some volume tokens. I prefer the bomber set up over my premium rockrock set up that's on my commencal clash I'm even considering getting bomber z1 for the clash as it's such a simple process to dial in.
