  • Welcome to our video on the Kawasaki ZZR1400 (ZX-14R) and whether the extra 400cc+ displacement over more traditional 1000cc motorcycles makes any real difference today, considering how much performance modern 1000cc bikes cam produce. Is the extra displacement just for show, or is it actually useful? Lets find out!

I bought mine over winter and stripped it back to replace things like coolant pipes. New plugs (twat to do) and paint the exhaust headers. New pads filters blah blah. 16plate 13k miles. Quick shakedown ride last month and I’ve just got back from a tour of the normandy beaches and it was a perfect bike. Mates on bmw 1250r and an africa twin. Mine was returning same mpg and i had the most fun. As for comfort I’m 65 nxt month with all the aches of age and an old knee injury yet this bike has been perfect. Best bike ive had and ive had some. Always fancied one and glad i took the plunge. It’s a keeper

I've had a ZZR performance for the last 8yrs, i added a BMW HP4 Carbon to the garage for a while alongside it and i always ended up on the ZZR. Nothing, literally NOTHING feels like the performance of the ZZR. I've had her remapped and truly opened up and lightened by removing the 3 cats and various performance options as well as adding HEL braided brake lines.
I will ALWAYS have a ZZR for as long as I can still ride it, the performance, pull, power, torque is just relentless and when you wind her back its just biblical perforemance and completely planted ride that makes me feel like a kid every single ride. It's weird to have feelings towards an inanimate object but i love the thing.
It's my therapist, friend, touring companion and serial killer all rolled into one.
    LOVE it. What a masterpiece.

Like I've said before, It's a drag bike that you can tour on. Like you said, it has torque and horsepower. I have a 21 model and at 75 years old, will be my last motorcycle and i can't think of any other bike i would rather have.

Bought a perf sport (ex Kawasaki uk show bike with ohlin front end as well) new in late 2015 (2014 model) - never sell it, and never be good enough to push its limits - decimates mates on 1000cc head bangers, wheel base means you can get the power down without fear and it defo reaches for the air just on power in fourth; awesome bike ❤️

Been watching your channel for a while and really want to get my hands on a zzr1400 now. I’m riding a 12’ Kawasaki z1000sx coming from a CB500x I felt exactly about how you describe your experience with your zzr1400. I’m a little intrigued now. I do need another bike in my garage, seeing that I will be doing a 100mile round trip to work every day soon and having another bike that can also do two up touring and long motorway miles is what I actually want. I just think the zzr1400 is one of the best looking bikes out there. Only slide worry I have is cutting through London traffic with it, although I was worried about that when I got the z1000sx which turned out not to be the case at all.

I’ve a modified h2 at 280hp and a zzr 1400 also modified and I prefer riding the zzr1400 most of the time. Nicer road bike.
If you are comparing a ZZR 1400 to a liter bike like a fireblade or r1 then a resounding yes. Of course it makes a difference. You have similar horsepower figures at the top end. But the torque in the low to mid range is so much better. You can also be lazier and just not change gears so much if you want.

Hi I love them zzr1400’s they are great bike had one couple years ago 17 plate sp model great fun instant acceleration comfortable with bar risers1” and half but I traded it in for a triumph rocket 3gt bit better sitting position and well an instant torque monster you said about triumph at the end of this video if you tried one I don’t think you’d want anything else they are in my eyes a magnificent bike do anything bike all you ever need anyway I’d still like to try a busa one day but I’m knocking on the door of 64 yrs old so comfort is very important but for you just try one and do a video on it I’d like to see what you think coming more from sports type bikes ride safe take care and hope wifey is well too bye for now

It's still available in the Americas. I guess there won't be the usual update after the gen3 busa.
    I've had / have 2 12's and 2 14's and 4 busas.
When asked, I say that I've never raced myself and to go sit on both, pick the one you want.

Like the FJR1300, she's a big heavy tourer. A large displacement understressed engine, plenty of poke up and down the rev range... what's not to like?
She was clearly built for the road though, not the track. A 600 or 1000 is going to be much more at home on the track. But they're all a big pain to tour on.

I would like to know what the differences are between the gen 1 and gen 2 ZZR1400 are? And if having the extra 100cc or so on the gen 2 makes any difference to the speed or riding experience because according to Google it says it doesn't.

The gen2 is better ! It's lighter and it's faster there's a no. Of things that makes the change easier 2 do the handling is better even though the gen 1 is a fantastic bike the 2 has been improved in many ways ! You'll see if you get on 1 you'll just have 2 buy it .i did and love the gen 2 ! A very special bike on a different level 2 owt similar !!!!👍

Venerable indeed. Had 3 Hayabusa's. A Gen 1 and two Gen 2's, 60'000kms + total. Currently have a ZX14R 2018 with 18'00kms on the clock only from new The ZX14R is a very different bike. Only problem I have is the windscreen that buzzes as I head towards 4000rpm. It is attatched by 6 'nut and bolt' things. The Suzuki Windscreen is seamless and it never gave me a problem. From New Zealand. Whatever is flying around on the r/h side of the bars on your bike is very irritating too, I must add. Thanks for the post...

CC = low and mid range torque, torque is addictive there's nothing like experiencing low weight high torque vehicles that sensation is quite something , turbo diesel are renowned for high torque figures

I agree that this bike couldn't compete against a sports bike on track day. The sports bike is a lot shorter and lighter, so will whip around tight corners, the 1400 need longer sweeping bends.
You have to look at what these bikes were designed for, mile munching at speed. I can do anout1 hr in the saddle with this bike, I would be lucky to do half n hr on a sport.i love the large sport tourers.

that why you get the GTR 1400 with V V T variable valve timing that makes diff - and ecu flash exhaust suspension mods and best of ALL worlds - more TORQE than zx 14 bottom end mid range and comfy ! 0-1 00 just as fast zx 14 -

ZX10R would win the half-mile Race but not Quarter Mile

This is why I've gone from litre four banger back to litre vee twin. The torque being immediate.
