Seems exactly what Mike Nesmith had said "The TV version of Head." After filming Head, then doing this, it's completely understandable that Peter was burnt out and left - criminal what he had to pay to get out of his contract! Looking at "Elephant Parts" (especially Rio) you can see how much more coherent, humorous, and creative Mike's work was than what the corporate drones could come up with (Head and this). Completely understandable also why Mike felt stunted inside his contract and needed to go to avenues that allowed for greater expression of self. Davy and Mickey made the best they could of the situation, building off of it what they did and building lives they enjoyed. All in all, each adjusted as they could coming out of it with their own sense of selves. This is not dissimilar from what many have to go through with any corporate gig - how to make the best of it and enjoy as much of life as possible. For a couple seasons you guys provided a great deal of silliness which yielded lot of laughs, that helped us all cope, and now continue to provide great memories of laughter/fun. Your work on the show, and after, as well as the paths to shape your lives has served many of us in a lot of ways. I've read each of their books/bios and they've each been insightful in their own way. Thank you Peter, Davy, Mike, and Mickey for everything you've provided us.
Grandes artistas, músicos, muchachos, simpáticos, carismáticos, muy talentosos, encantadores, fantásticos y muy guapos, quien los eligió para este grupo, supo escoger en ellos su gran talento!!! Muy admirados!!! Por siempre y eternamente l love❤ThE monkees!!!
Wow. Not completely sure what I just watched. If they were going for the feeling of an acid trip, I’d think they achieved it: Incoherent, super-saturated, moments of brilliance, with the feeling of sandpaper all along my nerve endings throughout much of it … very much like an acid trip in my experience. 😂 Fairly certain I never saw this before. Unlikely to sit through it ever again! But if I did, I think I’d want to at least be on weed if not acid. 😂 What a trip!
This is bizarre to say the least! What a waste of their talents. The girl gets the good song! If this is like Head then I'm glad I didn't get to see it! Mike said they smoked a lot of weed when writing that movie!
@@spiritnme7772yes, parts in the middle were almost good! 😂 But, WOW. I’m a lifelong Monkees fan, and I’m not sure I’d ever want to watch that again. Certainly not without some sort of mind altering substance to help out! 🤣
loool as someone who comes back to rewatch scenes here on a more-than-weekly basis, i can agree that it’s not very good and pretty much delivers the same message as head does but worse
@@flygonical3931the execution may not have been the best but it does make the point that they were burnt out and had been kept under thumb for the majority of their musical and tv presence among other themes , which it seems quite a few commentors arent understanding (of no fault tho)
Off of the top of my head I know the last songs played released as ‘Listen to the Band’ under The Monkees, and I believe Peters intro song was released as ‘I Prithee (Do Not Ask for Love)’. I’m unsure about the rest!
A product of the era. Good, bad, and fascinating.

Head wasn’t made by corporate drones. Som monkee elbow grease, 60’s weed, and Jack Nicholson before he was super famous did that
The stacked pianos was just awesome.

Spot on and well said! ✌🏼
Micky is really straining, singing most of these tunes outside his range.

I only came to see Jerry Lee Lewis little Richard and fats domino in their prime
What t f was I just watching? Poor Monkees who had to go through this kinda crap.
Love the Monkees but what the hell was i on when this was first shown back then.
nobody dug this man, they just don't get it man, far out the squares will never groove out to this baby's! Peace
I'm not saying it's just bad, I just want to know what decisions I made in my life that ended up me being here

Ok the last half is so much better and I'm enjoying it!
I think I am tripping out here and I don't have any weed to smoke! Wow!

@@spiritnme7772 actually no, Head was absolutely fantastic
its just crazy how fast they burned out, September '66 and they were pretty much done by 1969.
I agree, BUT those three years gave us a lot of great music.
@@thetreasurehouse1742 sure did! and it shows just how great they were that nearly 60 years later the music is still alive!
I don't smoke.
But what was that stuff I was smoking while watching this?? 🚬
If the schnutty-buddies hate it then it must be at least a little bit cool
Looking at the comments y'all missed the point of the movie.

It sucks. No point.
Some of this was interesting, even good....but it just careened more and out of control until you have this...
Did these songs ever come out?

Out of someone's ass, yeah.
Sad.
this is 10 times worse then the movie head
In my opinion Head is an undisputed masterpiece.
@@jakechat2716 i understand your opinion
@@patrickgrondines-t2b Honestly it's just a film I personally enjoy. But I agree that this thing isn't really great....
Both are fine as long as it isn't focusing on Davy
Julie Driscoll is so annoying
