Have used my XM3s to death, particularly during lockdown where the ANC kept me sane. As a result my pads were in a sorry state. Bought some new ones, but was really hesitant about doing the replacement. Felt loads better after watching this video - didn't take long, and much cleaner pads now!
Wouldn't worry about it. I've been using a pair of these practically every day for the last 3+ years (the same pair), and have not managed to tear the cups. The black leather finish has almost entirely worn off, however, and I am now replacing the cups for this reason. More importantly, the sound quality is the same as the first day I got them.
You are the goat. I didn't even know what to do. My ear pads were torn and destroyed and didn't know what to do. Ordered the replacement from Amazon. And now I have new ear pads. And they make my headset look brand new since I never abused my headset.
Thanks for this video. Really straight to the point which is great I had to replace my current pads as the leather on my old ones were fading a lot and it smelt pretty bad even after multiple attempts to try and clean them
Very Helpful, finally a video that is good quality etc, great explanation etc. I know this is simple but I always worry I will break the inside microphone's wires so I watch video's to make sure I am doing it right, glad to know I am.
@@rfh9560 I don:t think I got a genuine part, I got it off ebay, and noticed much nicer comfort and an improvement in quality (because the old ones were worn down so much).
@@VincentW2 i just installed new ones a minute ago, they were about €5 from Aliexpress. They are clearly not as malleable, in part for being new I suppose. Last case scenario I can contact sony for genuine ones, I love these headphones so it would be worth it
Thanks for the nice video--well done! I like that you emphasize patience--I often get frustrated and impatient when working on things! I have the WH-1000XM3 and am considering ear cushion replacement after only 5 months of ownership because the cushions are going flat and rolling inside the housing. This causes the already annoying foam padding on the drivers to push on my ears even more! Wonderful sound quality and excellent noise cancelling, but crappy ear cushions!
Aaron, thank you for pointing out that the WH 1000XM3s need new pads. The ones provided are made of fake leather and quickly lead to itchy, sweaty discomfort. Which is regrettable because the 1000XM3s are so excellent soundwise. I solved that issue which had gotten serious for me, with a new pair of pads made with real, soft leather by Dekoni for that very headset. They come in either leather or suede but I opted against the suede because the noise-cancelling could be adversely affected. I may be wrong. They cost under $50, below Sony's plastic replacements and they completely eliminate the itchy, sweaty annoyance. Keep making them Aaron.

“The quickest way to destroy your headphones is to rush” 😂😂😂 isn’t that a fact. I have the XM4’s and my biggest gripe about them is how thin the earcups are. My ears touch the inside of the headphones and they get way too hot. No room to breathe in there. So I’m going to try one of the aftermarket sets of earcups, hoping they’re a bit bulkier and give me some more room inside of these units. I also have a set of Bose QC35II’s and they are hands down better as far as space goes…. I can wear them for easily double the time and not get warm. They are also much much easier to change the earcups on 😂 thanks for this video though! You’re the best. And your humor is stellar 🤙🏼
Thanks, got it done within 10 mins as the video played in the background! I used a nail clipper too, a guitar pick was clearly too short/weak for it. One extra thing I did: I carefully cleaned some dust with a small tape before putting everything back on.
Are there any videos on how to replace the battery in the Sony WH-CH700N? I need to replace mine, have purchased the battery, but don't want to destroy the headphones. Thanks
BTW I just did the same thing on the XM4 and I using this video as a reference and its actually the exact same way, even the clips seems similar for those of you who are wondering for the XM4 ear cups replacement.

Also thanks to Sony for offering replacement parts in my country still for the XM3s, $25 a pop. Not too bad at all tbh because the XM4s sound muddy (sorry, tried them, they don't compare to XM3 2.0.0 or 4.5.1) and the XM5s.. I tried to remove the foam inside the earcup it’s covering a microphone above the driver. I tried the headphone on with no foam inside the cup the sound maybe changed a little I can’t quite tell (but from my past experience modding headphones it should) my ear is not touching the inside which is great. I think the foam is there just to protect the small microphone if you don’t like the foam touching your ear I suppose you can remove the foam but be careful with the microphone. In regard to dust, there are many headphones with a much more exposed driver so this should not be an issue.
I finally be able to save up and buy one BUT it turn out to be a BIG DISSAPOINTMENT in terms of comfort. 5 mins in and my ears felt warm like sauna. Obviously I can't afford to buy BOSE QC 35 now . My wish is if I can replace the Sony's pad with QC 35s replacements. Appreciate a reply. Thank you.
