  • This is the theme song from the 1996 version of BBC Children in Need. I found a couple of other versions on RUclips from previous years, but not this one. Thankfully I found it on an old video tape and put it here for others to see.
Sung by Gary Wilmot and combined children's choirs from around the UK.

Great to see it in full again after all these years. I wish they would do it again because it's a really good song.

All the other versions seem to have disappeared.
I happen to to have the entire 1992 broadcast (with a shaky start and ending) on VHS, with BBC Wales opt-outs. I just need to find a friend who knows how to convert it!
Highlights include Beverley Craven performing "Love Scenes", Robert Palmer performing "Ridin' High" and "Love Me Or Leave Me", the casts of Annie Get Your Gun and Five Guys Named Moe.
Spectacles include Birds Of A Feather performing "Gotta Get A Gimmick", Casualty performing a medical medley, and Jeff Banks/Bill Owen/Kathy Staff/Caron Keating/Shane Richie/Tony Blackburn/Alan Freeman/Geoffrey Hughes performing a medley of songs, celebrating fashion through the decades.
Instead of the CIN song, they opted for a live "jam session" across the regions, led by Marion Montgomery in London. Regional guest artists included Laurie Holloway (piano), Terry Lightfoot (clarinet), The Fairer Sax (saxophones), Keith Chegwin (bass), Barry Forgie (trombone), Sheila Tracey (trombone), Chris Searle (drums), and Ieuan Jones (harp)! They did this two years earlier, with George Melly leading.
There was also the "Pudsey Olympics" - an inter-regional quiz, won by Sean Rafferty in Belfast, who correctly guessed that Lady Thatcher was the mystery guest in the final round.

How did they do the Jam session. I have had a slight (major) obsession with the Children in Need Link ups since I was 10. Did they do it like this where they cut between each region and where were the locations (That is if you've sorted it)

So do I... I was at Swindon North Star BT House in 1996 aged 8.. they went live there. And OMC How Bizarre played. I was there. I would love to see it.

    • @MArmes-fn8lq
      @MArmes-fn8lq 3 месяца назад

@@neiluk2006 Was that definitely 1996 because in 1997 in the line dancing thing here: ruclips.net/video/fmQajcegQws/видео.html (I was born 10 years after that so I have no idea) the group at 1:49 were in Swindon.
Also do you know where the Bristol Group was or was that there too because I know BBC South West (after emailing) had their coverage from Towan Beach in Newquay not Plymouth so unless the choir was in a different place was Bristol the same case.

Jimmy Savile would have had a great time if he was allowed into that studio. Terry Wogan banned him from Children in Need from the mid 80s as he found him creepy. Savile had a very awkward interview with Joanna Lumley at one early 80s Children in Need which caused Terry to despise him.

I really like this but I have 3 problems:
    Newcastle (my region) weren't singing
Some of the audio (particularly Newcastle and possibly Belfast) was mostly the studio audio and I think like the actual choirs it should have been the full audio from each choir and that the Gary Wilmot bits should be pre recorded and played over.
Not all of them showed the whole choir (Glasgow, Possibly Chatham, Leeds, Newcastle :( )
    Other than those really good.
