WEW this was a big project that took a while. Thanks to every one that hung out while I streamed. If you want to hang out in the future, come give a follow to my twitch! www.twitch.tv/jarek4gamingdragon
Hey man as a long time fan from your airsoft vids id love to see you try turok evolution. Its a game me and my cussins loved but yet is one of the hated turok entries. I hear alot of people complain the fps dips alot. So id love to see your take and any fixes you might know of as im a console pleb not a pc master
Also your one of the top 8 people who inspired me to make my airsoft channell. Were almost 250k
You should try out another Starbreeze game (pretty good imo)
Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay.
Sadly it's not on GOG/Steam anymore do to "legal issues" but i'm sure it's easy to swim the sea for.
Stream was fun! Darkness 1 is better then 2 imho.
Are you going to make a review of the crysis games
What the hell? I was just playing the Original Darkness when this popped up...
Is the Darkness watching us?
Its always watching us.......
Prolly just RUclips promoting this channel and this happened to be a new videos of his
Lol
~JUUUUUUUDEEE.... I THIRST FOR HEARTS.
And I thought everyone in the world forgot about these games I'm glad there is fans that still play them
All i want is a remaster of darkness 1
Yeah, and for pc. That would be awesome.
@@jacksonestacado7409 and consoles
I'm with you, but I also want a darkness 3 because I reaaaalllllyyyy want to see what happened afterwards
How about a remake?
The darkness 1 from a story telling point of view is one of the best shooters ever made
paul mcgettigan , big sell for me on Darkness 1 is Mike Pattons’ voice acting!
It is without a doubt a gr8 story,a lot better than 2,they strayed too far away from the original,in the open world, the graphic style and especially the story, the 2nd game is still worth playing but nobody should expect a game as good as the first game
For me this is how i always saw the 2 games
Darkness 1: great story, memorable characters, incredible lighting and shadow work, hit or miss gameplay with awkward controls.
Darkness 2: interesting story that fumbles a bit, a few decent characters, okay graphics, incredible gameplay that makes you feel like...well...a superhero.
If they ever make a Darkness 3 (i highly doubt it) if they mixed the story and characters of Darkness 1 with the incredible gampelay of Darkness 2 then i think we'd have a masterpiece.
the darkness 2s multiplayer is really neat to. but both games are gems
Hated the cell shading in 2.
AI in D2 was horrible though. The game just throws wave after wave of suicidal enemies. Shooting felt great.
Hit the nail on the head. If they could make a sequel that could combine the first one atmosphere and the second one smooth gameplay that shit would be lit.
I love the slower pace of Darkness 1. I like games where i am not in constant combat. The subway was confusing at first, then i got the hang of it and loved it. The collectible phone numbers were fun to call.
💯
Yeah u pretty much nailed my veiws,I miss the slower pace of the original, slow to the point of just watching breakdancing in the subway or walking the more open world streets & port,or just going to grans pad to sit your ass down & watch some TV,GTA IV style
If you didnt know; Jackie's voice actor in Darkness 2 is Bj Blazkowitz from Wolfenstein
Thank you for that interesting factoid big swole nigga
@@adventuresingamedevelopmen5708 seriously go listen to his voice in Darkness 2 and then go play the recent Wolfen games
@@nickm5419 If you also don't know. Mike Patton is the Darkness and Faith No More: The Real Thing is one of the greatest albums of all time.
@@coreymarshall6014 dammit corey beat me to it dude!!
Also, the cover of war pigs is beyond epic 😉
man I love your username. makes me think of Kali Muscle lol
I preferred Darkness 1 more. It was more grounded and the gameplay felt like it had more weight to it.
I couldn't agree more yo
I preferred darkness 2's gameplay, but 1's is just so memorable and unique. I could go back to it after 20 year and remember everything
And it is longer
Its criminal we`ll never get Darkness 3.
Ikr
Shame ...
Yeah 😢😭
The Darkness 3 Should be Revealed
The graphics in The Darkness is amazing for a 2007 game
LeThayle...The Darkness 1 graphics still looks amazing in 2020.
My fav moment is watching movie together in her new apartment :(
I’m late as hell, but it was To kill a Mockingbird right?
Yup. Its something that stuck with me to this day
Yes man
I remember getting the Darkness 1 when I was younger and just thinking it would be a fun edgy little fps to mess around in. And then was quickly surprised when I found myself sucked into it. I still love how they made a game about a piggyback riding tentacle monster somehow grounded, gritty, and realistic. It really doesn't sound or look like it should work. But when you're playing, all of it just clicks
I sympathize with Digital Extremes wanting to make The Darkness 2 look more like the source material, considering how much iconography from it the first game missed out on, but it's weird that they'd go that extra mile to make it look like the comic but take so many fucking steps back when it comes to actually portraying the characters and events in a way that does them justice.
Kinda strange though that witchblade is mentioned as a tv show in the first game, but actually exists in the second.
How much would I love to see The Darkness 1 remastered for the PC...
João Gabriel Yule you and me both
@@ekofever827 Indeed.
That'd be lit. Then I wouldn't have to rely on my PS now subscription just to play the damm game anymore.
I realize I'm a bit late to the party here, but Jackie is a side character from Witchblade that was spun off into his own series. (The Angelus is a major Witchblade character, and arguably more important in that comic than in The Darkness.) This results in a weird situation, where The Darkness 2 is a lot more faithful to the source material, but doesn't fully commit, and leaves a lot of people confused.
I'm guessing they didn't have the rights to use Sara Pezzini in the first game, because the entire corrupt cops element is one of the few points where the comic has some actual traction between the characters.
They did have concept arts of The Angelus for the first game. But I'm guessing they want to make it more realistic so they cut out most supernatural elements besides the Darkness
The darkness 1 from a storytelling perspective blew me away. I would see it on the shelf of my local used game store and I always thought it looked dumb. Then I got it as a birthday gift from a friend and fell in love with it. It’s one of my top 10 games of all time at this point just because of how underrated it is.
Yeah, right. I am so glad i got Xone to play it backwards compatable. It has so many subtle moments like when you can visit by yourself Jenny's appartment after her death, ring the door bell and hear some lines from Jackie's memories, Darkness then will get a sinister laugh at you. Also you can visit Jenny's grave to get yet again a sinister comment from Darkness. This game is grounded in right proportions and it's gameplay lives a strong impression of how much anger and revenge can tear up one man's soul. If you think about it the Darkness just won over Jackie, despite his attempts to restrict it. Even you as a player feel the thirst for eating as many hearts as possible, the game let's you kill anyone for that purporse.
I remember feeling disappointment in the right demon head being so greedy and always eating the hearts and happy for Leftie when he'd randomly steel one away.
It's ironic that in the second game it's the left head that got all the hearts. It's like the developers noticed and was trying to balance things out or something lol
Chronicles of Riddick has similar pacing as the Darkness 1. I like 2004 version more
Agreed. Escape from Butcher Bay is fantastic!
Butcher bay and Athena kicked serious arse.
Yeah makes sense. It's all by the same developer.
The orphanage section in the Darkness 1 is one of the most haunting and emotional sections in any game ever imo
I played the Darkness 1 in 2010 when I was in middle school and loved it but nobody else I knew had ever heard of it, or even cared to know. So it turned into this thing that I had to myself and I'm glad that there are so many others who loved the game and are waiting for a 3rd. I played 2 when it came out but it didn't have the emotional impact of the first until the end of the game when Jenny became the Angelus.
I played it in 2009 when I was also in middle school with my friend, both of us being sort of the weird emos of our friend group haha. The darkness does have sentimental value for me; on a level I almost can relate to it like I would with a piece of music. Just a really gripping story for a video game and something about it being a mob story was awesome.
Would you consider trying Clive Barker’s Jericho?
I played this in junior high with an uncle. Big horror fans bad but good
It's a shame that game wound up being trash
@@ReplyequalsNerd Its not trash. It's just okay
The ww1 experience in darkness 1 was one of the best sceneries I have ever seen in gaming. The weird hellish environment in a ww1 battlefield was so fucking lit
Who else watched the whole movie with Jenny on the couch?
What happens if you do that? Anything?
@@ShawnSmith183 you get an achievement I think
@@RyanBurnsRed Not the whole movie, once Jenny falls asleep you unlock it
I honestly thought you would start the into with finding your second copy of the darkness 1.
Isn't The Darkness voiced by Mike Patton aka the greatest vocalist ever
AlexGreat321 , OH YEAH! Mr. Bungle is making a comeback too, don’t ya know!?
holy shit i never knew this thank you, also did the zombie voices in left 4 dead.
I'd give anything for a remaster of The Darkness. It's a shame it never got to PC. I played through the horrible PS3 version and even despite the FPS drops to single digits it's one of my favorite PS3 games. The atmosphere is phenomenal and it reminded me of The Crow movie a lot.
I have a Mandela effect where I have memories of there being a darkness 3. It really bums me out that there isn’t one.
May be thinking of darksiders 3. That happens to me sometimes
Fear 3?!
I feel the same, that thought, for many underrated games just randomly pops up in my head. I still feel pain once it comes up
ngl i remember playing darkness 3 in 2014ish-2015 thr plot was that you escape hell because you wake up from death but turns out everything that happened at the end of the second game with jenny and you have to try and free jenny and i swear i played the game but now i cant find it any where
If you find your way back to the universe where darkness 3 was made, I can only hope you bring it back to ours.
Maybe Sinbad was in shazam there too
The Darkness 1 also had a great way of showing you where to go without map markers or compasses. Felt really immersive and like you were actually there.
Quote from AngryJoe, “This game is pretty colorful for a game called the Darkness”
You remember the jenny thing the most. I remember the aunt and her minestrone soup...
That line and olive garden are the reasons why i believe it's the more superior soup.
You do realize we never did get that minestrone soup
I love how he uses the flashpoint theme from legendary because its dope as hell
I have watched most of the video, so far so good, I might have missed it but you didnt mention that the darkness is based on comic books and that the voice of the darkness is from the amaaazing Mike Patton, the endcredit song in The darkness 1 is from his side project Tomahawk
Ah yes you did mention the "guy" that voiced the darkness! I also didnt like the voice in the 2nd game
2 scenes i remember from d1:
In Hell, a starving horse with a shot off face and a big basket with fresh apples in front of it
2. beeing with your gf Jenny and just watch tv / gping for a kiss
This game is just art!
Listening to the "Shoot It In" music video on the Hobos TV in the subway while he slept.
You can also visit her appartment after death, ring the door bell and hear some lines from Jackie's memories, Darkness then will get a sinister laugh at you. Also you can visit Jenny's grave to get yet again a sinister comment from Darkness. This game is grounded in right proportions.
Recently replayed both of these. Man it was a breath of fresh air compared to recent releases
Me to there is something special about the darkness 1&2
Hopefully someday get a third
I just got all the gamerscore for Darkness 2 yesterday this is freaky. I have a few things point out 1) no mention of vendettas they add more story to the main campaign. 2) You are right DE wanted to make their own game so badly they did any number of odd jobs to do it, now that warframe is a thing they dont make any other games. 3) 2k is greedy atm as long as they care about microtransactions single player games are an after thought. 4) you just earned a new sub
Guys 2k has gone way too far I came back just to show you they are greedy as fuck and corrupted. Check out the recent 2k20 trailer. They really are putting gambling mechanics and loot boxes in a children's game...
All I want is The Darkness 1 on PC with all the good options, FOV Slider, No Mouse acceleration, Frame rate boost 60fps as minimum
My lasting Darkness memory is of threatening that dude so intensely that he lets the guy play his harmonica.
He later ambushes you with his buddies and you get to kill him, lol.
Also the darkness to was developed by Digital Extremes. The first game was developed by Starbreeze Studios. If I can recall correctly the reason why they decided to go with an art direction change was they did not have code to the original game. So they had to write their own game engine and decided to make it cel shaded or more animated if you will as to the limits of what they were doing. They also said something about wanting to create a more diverse looking game that separated from the original. That in my mind hurt the game as the 2nd one was not as well received
*clicks video*
*hears legendary main theme playing*
I am pleased
If you won't to know why the voice actor, Mike Patton, sounds so different in The Darkness 1 than he does in 2. It's because in the first game they had him record his lines multiple times with distinct vocalizations, and then later the audio team mixed them together. Whilst in the second game, the vocal director is directly telling him to break his voice as he's recording his lines.
No one:
Absolutely no one:
RUclips at 3 am when i gotta work in retail tomorrow: "Is The Darkness 1 better than The Darkness 2"
Could you review F.E.A.R (1,2,3) for the next vid?
I remember one of the selling points for darkness 1 was watching full Popeye episodes.
The Darkness are very fun games. Got me into the comics.
The comics are god-tier.
I replay both games every once in a while and I love them both, especially the second one for being a beacon of hope in a sea of military shooters.
Their only downsides are that the first game is nearly unplayable on consoles and NEEDS to be on pc while the sequel is kinda short and ended on a cliffhanger to which we'll probably never get a conclusion.
Well said! I remember walking past The Darkness so many times because stores had 10 copies in the bargain bin for 6 bucks each. I figured, nah it must suck. Eventually I decided to have a go and ended up completing the campaign 3 times back to back. Such an unappreciated gem.
The Darkness one was a great experience.
The Darkness two was too 'over the top.'
I low-key would love a animated series of the Darkness, based on the comics
I loved both of these games. Respect to Mike Patron for the incredible voice work he did
Keep putting out great videos!!!
Soooo many games that I was just young enough to not be able to buy them all but old enough to want to play them all. This is like my later-in-life compromise, love these videos, keep it up!!
Playing the first Darkness game on Xbox One X made a decent difference regarding the screen tearing, pretty mulched locked frame rate and the clarity. Still one of my favorite games and fun to go back and playing once or twice a year
The darkness 1 was way ahead of its time when it came out.
I always pulled up a shopping cart in Darkness 1 and watched all the metal videos. That was a sweet little addition.
From personal experience:
Darkness 1: Superior story, atmosphere characters/voice actors, and music.
Darkness 2: Superior gameplay/combat mechanics
Overall, I prefer the mood of the first game much more.
The Darkness one is chalk full of amazing ideas and it has one of the best stories ever put on a disc. I feel like a remake would breathe so much life into this game and give it the legacy it deserves.
The "LMB for shooting the right gun and RMB for shooting the left gun" is even worse in Skyrim, where you press one of these buttons to select a one-handed weapon or magic spell.
You are really digging into ideal nostalgia content for people in their mid 20s.
Lol I'm 26 😆
Footage I see of the 1st one gives me that great atmospheric vibe I got from DooM 3 and FEAR
this was my favourite game on the ps4 i played through it twice! loved the grim realistic graphics and voice acting too youre right they where very authentic.
the voice actor of the darkness is the singer from faith no more with near enough no voice manipulation just a filter pretty impressive stuff.
Frick dammit chicken sticks
Wish Darkness 1 was on PC... :(
Wow.... the direction of the 1st game for the voice acting of the darkness was on point. The 2nd he sounds Weasley lol
I played the Darkness 2 half a year ago and it was a pleasant surprise. I would like that they port the first one to Steam as well. These gaming studios have all difficulties to survive so I suppose putting some of your staff for a couple of months on a conversion project will be an easy roi.
I remember finding a tv in the darkness 1 and it had Popeye playing and I sat there and watched for over 40 min and forgot I was even playing a game
Subscribed to ur twitch and youtube. Love ur videos and Streams. Keep up the good work :) greetings from germany.
Nice to hear thoughts from someone who enjoyed the 1st game. One of my favorite fps campaigns.
I love Mike Patton as the Darkness. He has so much fun with the role.
Ill never forget the ending cutscene of the darkness 1 and credits music, never
Hey great video as usual man! You should try to do the rise and fall of the red faction series!
Jarek probably felt the same thing playing Darkness 2 that I felt when playing Bioshock Infinite for the first time.
It's a good game in its own right but it's definitely inferior to the first 2.
Will there ever be a third Darkness sequel? I guess the world may never know.
I love the first part. The Story and feelings i got when playing, was touching to me. The secound part was not bad but i think you told it all in this Video.
Oh and thumps up for ya for bringing back my memorys from my favourite games in the world
Darkness 1 was iconic I was scared af of any dark kinda horror game but my little ass beat the whole game cause I was so into the story and the settings
29:15 The physics seemed to have this nice 'realistic' weight to them, look at that guy when he was thrown
Personally I prefer the Darkness 1, but I still definitely enjoy the 2nd. Also, I randomly searched for the Darkness 1 about a week ago, and it’s crazy that someone still talks about this game.
I'm a huge fan of the first game and when the second game came out, I was terribly disappointed. I totally disliked the visual style that was chosen for the sequel. Yes, the second game had a lot more connection to the original comics, but it created a strong dissonance with the first game, which looked like Max Payne crossed with Silent Hill or something, while the sequel became more flat and cartoony throughout. Hell, even Mike Patton started sounding different in the sequel. In the first game he talked like the original evil, his voice sounded truly impressive and heartfelt. In the sequel, he just started yelling like some supervillain from thrashy cartoons. In the first game, the Darkness was the only supernatural creature, which made it stand out a lot, but now we have battle cultists and Angels. What is most interesting, Angels were supposed to appear in the first game, but their appearance was rejected, the only thing left from them is different concept art and fat hints in dialogs with various characters. Also The Darkness had one of the most memorable soundtracks, both score and compilation of different underground bands. Stained Red, M.A.N, Tomahawk, El Caco and other great music.
The ending of the first game clearly told us that the Angels took Jenny's soul, and overall the story looked complete, but the second part ignores that. The twist with the new dimension looking like an asylum also looks well VERY strange to me. And why the hell did they end the game on a cliffhanger? I've never understood this decision to end movies or games as if the creators are 200% sure a sequel will come out no matter what. The only thing I want to praise the sequel for is the action aspect. Yes, the second game is much faster and more intense. But the first game had much more obvious advantages, it was more immersive and had its own special charm. The second game looks like a Borderlands spinoff and plays like an ordinary shooter from 2012.
Thanks for the great review anyway!
Can you do spec ops:the line
I have a game that I think you’d like to look at. It’s called Motor Mayhem. Came out in 2001. I remember that game being crazy fun as a kid, and I always wondered why it never got more popularity or why it never got a sequel. I now realized why it never surfaced as a popular title, and it’s because Twisted Metal Black blew it out of the water
Dude escape from butcher bay?! THEY MADE THAT MASTERPIECE TOO
These were such great games that it's mindboggling why we didn't get one for this gen. Been awhile but I remember 2 being a bit of a let down but once I ignored that I still enjoyed it. Edit: the disappointing part on 2, if I remember correctly, was some change to the powers. I think I played the first like a stealth game but the 2nd I couldn't because of some change that I can't remember.
The Darkness 1 or, Nathan Explosions Happy Birthday.
Is that the Legendary soundtrack in the background? 🤔
The Darkness 1 is 1 of my favourite game ever.
love the Legendary theme at the beginning of the video !
I loved the first game and really enjoyed the sequel. I hope they make another game.
Hey I WANT to give Darkness 1 a try, but it's not on the platform I play on so I don't get the choice.
The voice actor for the darkness was none other than mike patton, vocalist for faith no more and a bazillion of his other side projects!
The Darkness is by far my most wanted Switch port from last gen. It’s such a gem on all aspects. Great voice acting, amazing art style, incredible script, and most importantly, a fucking badass soundtrack. It’s one of my personal favorite games ever and it’s a shame it was buried the way it was. Haven’t played the sequel.
My biggest gripe with this game was how quickly you killed Paulie, that fucker deserved so much more pain.
What are the songs in the background??
Bought the Darkness 1 for 10 bucks knowing nothing about it, just that I liked the art on the case. Turned out to be one of my favorite games on the 360, up there with Bioshock and Halo 3. The Darkness 2 felt like a decent sequel, but I missed the unique atmosphere and story of the first game. Too bad it isn't on steam
what I would like to see is not a sequel but tons of prequels where you follow the family line, where you are given a false sense of security that you say "this relates nothing to the darkness" then you get sequences that saids otherwise, you do not get the arm/head tentacles but instead you get demonic powers like an organic form of armor, and throughout the eras the darkness becomes more apparent then by WW1 you get the head tentacles and at that point the devs could have the heads fighting over someone's arm also in the darkness 2 any areas that had light..............................lets say if anyone had exposed flesh it looked AWFUL, its as if their skins are made from rough clay, now under a dark shadow its fine
God I loved both games. I hope they end up making a third one!
Would gladly pay if this got released on PC through GOG or something
I gotta say I can totally relate to what you're saying. When I first saw gameplay trailers of The Darkness 2 after having played the first one, I was really irritated by the cell-shaded Borderlines kind of look. And even though I don't mind all the changes and actually enjoyed the voice acting and those quite moments in the 2nd part, the atmosphere really was completely different. The first part actually was dark and gritty, being one of the first Ps3 titles it tried showing off more realistic graphics, and it really worked for the time. The 2nd part leaned more into a gamified comic book look, and kind of missed the point of a Darkness game with all the bright colors. I mean you're even using the darkness during daytime at 30:30 and the nighttime just doesn't seem as dark. That just doesn't seem right. The Darkness 2 is definitely a better shooter than the first one, and I'd disagree that it's just another generic one, because the setting, animations and powers are still quite enjoyable. But in the end the first part really was a more unique experience. But that's the curse of sequels I guess, especially if they're made by another developer.
Damn dude I live in Portland to. I love your content
Based on a comic book so the style of 2 makes a little sense but I agree they should have stuck with their original Vision of the game.
I remember when The Darkness came out on Xbox 360. I was amazed by the graphic quality at that time.
thye should really make like a photorealistic remake of this game because the gore is fucking amazing
I remember playing the darkness demo on 360 as a kid and it was really fun
