Everyone beat me to everything I would have said… yes, you should check out the extended version (I have no idea why they call it that since it’s the same version from the album), the discussion of the opening guitar riff during Dan Rather’s interview with Billy Gibbons was very interesting (just another one of those great Prince stories), this song was released 40 years ago and took over that summer. I loved it then, and I still love it now. 💜💜💜
Hi Brian, as always very good reaction from you. The original album version is longer and contains a pretty 2. guitar solo. Please search for "When doves cry (Extended version)". You will enjoy it. One of the best live version of the song is at "The Nude Tour - Tokyo concert in 1990". You will find this on YT too.
I think this is the first time I've heard you sound as if you are apologizing for Prince - believe me when I tell you that there are millions of people who do no look at that video as "dated" - we love it! And, I would call it, rather, "nostalgic." Also, I'm not sure why you seem so dismissive of the entire Purple Rain album minus 2 songs; there's quite a bit of guitar Prince throughout - and where there's piano and such, it might not work for this channel, but surely would be okay for private listens? Idk, I really love this channel, and I think you're very cool - but you made me a little sad today.
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Sometimes due to the amount of music I listen to and videos I watch I lose some perspective. I took something unique and amazing to turn my ear. I haven't watched this video for years, the intro still is like hearing Purple Haze for the first time. Nobody in the pop world has had a guitar intro like that ever. I agree we can look at the video with nostalgia, I have a huge fondness for the 70's and 80's.
Hello Brian, how are you mate. I have a long standing debate with my family and friends, when we're at social gatherings, I maintain that wdc, is one of the greatest songs ever written. Shout out to JJloves prince...I see you everywhere...lots of purple love to you miss x
It nots mine only because I know so many great songs by Prince. I would be down with that argument, it would fun to hear everyone’s take. I think Little Red Corvette could be in the running along with of course Purple Rain.
Good afternoon , My friend I was meaning to ask you if you ever show the interview by Dan Rather interviewing Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top. Since you doing this review of Prince “When Doves Cry” . While interviewing Billy Gibbons he ask him about Prince cause he was a that Rock n Roll inducing of Prince. He say saw Prince I guess in pictures holding a guitar but never knew how good of a player he was until seeing him that night a the Rock n Roll induction that night. He later said a couple a months after that he saw Prince at a club late that night and Prince sent his body guard to bring him to his table to talk. He said they talked about guitar but one thing Billy mention in the interview. He asked how or could he tell how played that riff at the beginning of When doves cry and Prince said he fell into it by accident and haven’t been able to play it since let’s go learn. Yeah Billy he knew of him playing guitar and everything else he did in music but after that night. He was amazed and really didn’t know how good he was. If you want check the interview out it call “ the big interview with Dan Rather S5:E5 Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) he told about Prince towards the ending of the interview.
When doves cry was way overproduced when he presented it to WB, they didn't like it and said it to Prince. He was pissed and stripped the song totally down to what it is today .. This story was also told in the Sunset Interviews here on YT. ... The long version also have a second guitat solo ..

The production is impeccable.
I saw him do it Live at the Purple Rain Tour. He sang Wendy Melvion played . It was Electric!!!!
No bass guitar and its great.
Still such a great song. Some really clever bits all throughout and a timeless opaque lyric. Great songwriting and production
Had the 45 in high school....17 Days on the flip was the jam too.
The LinnDrum makes up for the lack of a bass guitar.

But no guitar solo with 1990 version.
@@GuitarSoloReactions That's true, but the alternatively piano solo is fire

I was going to mention this interview as well. It’s interesting to hear Billy discuss that conversation.
That sounds like a great interview, I love Billy and look forward to checking out the interview.
Yeah I know! I was surprise myself to see him and other’s especially some members of heavy metal bands speak so highly of him. After his passing
@@GuitarSoloReactions 👋 yeah it was a great from beginning to the end. I’m also a fan of ZZ Top but mostly their older stuff in the mid to late 70’s
You should have reacted to the audio where the guitar solo at the end does not cut off.
I will do that one next, I was only familiar with this version.

There are guitars right before Dr. Finks Keyboard solo.
The radio edit..? Et tu, Brutus? ...why, why, why?
Sorry, Sorry, I have the longer version coming soon.
@@GuitarSoloReactions whew...you had me worried for a moment!
