This show is genuinely fantastic.
It started out as a comedy version of a show we all love. But over time it has actually taken the original version and improved on it, adding development and depth to previously basic moments, while keeping the emotional depth of the moments the original show did well!
Ehh it didn't improve on it.
@Cyberdemon Mike It isn't illegal, because they aren't make any money from this, all the money that get it's form donation and original merchandise, if this is illegal so are reviews, all this things fall under copyright law and they follow all those laws in that, they take this and change everything about it and since in a non-profit project doesn't violate the copyright laws, if they were selling this or was completely the same as the original show that would be illegal, but that it isn't the case there for isn't illegal.
@Cyberdemon Mike No, this is how they work, they have to use the images form the original material because there isn't other choice, a lot parodies do that, but again they change a lot of stuff most the dialogue and they also do some edit, this would be illegal if they upload a full episode with no changes whatsoever, I reeforce again they aren't make money with this, if they have done like LittleKuriboh and try to sell a DVD of the parody you could make a case. if that happened, that would be against copyright laws, but they didn't do that either still not illegal, the ones it say is illegal is Toei Animation and they are assholes, this guy form TFS were call by Funiamition to dub some real episode of DBZ, remember that episode where they show Mr.Satan defeat Cell in the tournament in the Buu Saga? They were call for that if you search you probably find it, Toei Animation said to Funimation to redo that episode or they would lose the rights to anything DB related, that happen because everytime that Toei Animation try to take down TFS they fail, if was real illegal TFS would be no more.

I like to think that the original inspiration for the dbza Goku character came from the fact that the show makes call backs to the character Goku was as a child in Dragonball which was a comedy. So in abridged, they focussed Goku on the call back sections making him like he was in Dragonball but an adult. The irony was to make Gohan oddly grown up so that all the childish adults seem more ridiculous. Like Malcolm in the Middle. Problem is, when the mature character becomes the main character, the story telling has to go from a comedy to a drama. If the only serious character has to step up, the story has to be serious. It’s as though Cell being a mix of all the characters, makes all the characters realise how ridiculous they all are and forces them to become normal again. Such a satisfying way to end an “Abridged” narrative.

It took few minutes to realize that child cell named Vegeta Jr Jr who has Nappa's voice is a throwback to not only Nappa but also to the Saibamen that was named Vegeta Jr by Nappa!!
Hence Vegeta's reaction "it's like every nightmare I ever had.. fused into one..."

I really like the subtlety behind Goku's character... he viewed the entire Cell situation as a fight, turning Gohan into a similar mental representation as himself. Goku doesn't really know Gohan, he only sees him as an extension of himself. This situation is the first to make him stop and realize that Gohan is somebody different. Even Cell reacts to things in a manner similar to Goku, something that only reinforced that simple world-view Goku had. I'm interested to see where Goku's character will go from here. I can already see his sacrifice being about atoning for the way he inadvertently failed his son while taking responsibility for the fight that Gohan directly stated was supposed to be his.
Philip Roberts While I agree with the redemption part for not understanding Gohan, Goku has no reason to apologize for using Gohan for “his” fight, because it isn’t Goku’s fight, it’s everyone’s fight, and Gohan just didn’t realize he was the only one who could finish it
So... you don't see why a parent who just had his worldview about his child shattered would feel a need to apologize? Whether or not you agree with the necessity, would it not be more in character for Goku to apologize, especially after Gohan expressly yelled that it wasn't his fight? I wasn't saying that it wasn't Gohan's fight; Gohan was.
Philip Roberts Oh I think he needs to apologize for a lot of things: Not recognizing his own son’s feelings, not attempting to make up for lost time (at least in this version), and not showing how much he actually cared for Gohan. I just don’t think the apology needs to be, sorry for having you fight Cell even though it was the only way
But I also think Gohan is going to realize that he was merely being selfish in that instance

The characterization is on point and has been throughout the series. Gohans rejection of his Fathers tendencies were the catalyst of his shortsighted hypocrisy. This episode was great.

Cells little breakdown of how he views Gohan was.. amazing I wish he would've said that in the actual show. It brought to the surface a deep subtle hate I had for Gohan around this time.

It was a nod to the fact that there are so many Gohan ssj2 amvs that use the song.
I love how TFS handles the villains. Each character brings a different kind of humor, and the villains (and Vegeta in general) use darker or more mean-spirited humor to fit into their intimidating presence.

This episode barely made me laugh, and that's totally okay with me. They wrote the scenes in such a way that provided more depth. Just as you say the episode snuck up on us, I feel so did this more serious tone. The series has always had occasional somber moments, Trunks' transformation into Super Saiyan being a notable one, and this episode is the first time that took center stage, and I can't think of anything I'd change about it, except maybe a couple of the jokes actually seemed out of place given the tone of the rest of it.
minneva buh they’ve gone from being a goofy jokey abridged series to like...a solid retelling and reinterpretation of the original series that has a heavy dose of jokes. It’s a disservice to call it an “abridged series” at this point. It’s almost closer to DBZ Kai than to YGOTAS in a way

Thank you. You're the only reactor I've seen so far to appreciate unmei no hi. Seems averyones only familiar with the funimation cut. Cell and 16's speeches and breakdown of gohan's character flaw absolutely made this epusode for me. Can't wait for the next episode
Ron Bautista I grew up with the funimation only due to tv and sheltered upbringing, and the falconer music was what drew me in the most.
Now that I’ve got it all on DVD, I usually do watch it with that music, but my edition of the DVDs was good cos it gave the combo of English voices with Japanese music...
But I haven’t rewatched in a while, waiting for my partner to finish dragon ball...but when I saw this episode and heard the music, I made a point of checking and got it...
I guess it’s just that I’m nostalgic for the falconer cut cos of my own tastes...I don’t mean to undermine the view of how good the jap music was...to each their own obviously :)

No, Dende saved the world by telling Porunga to revive everyone Frieza and his men killed. Nappa was revived because of this and pursued the producer life, eventually bringing Hercule there.

To me it was actually better than the original. They actually adressed all the importand character developements and made some characters even more complex characters.
Also I liked how they mentioned that the human fighters at least always try even though they are way out of their league.

Looks like you prepared for the chills with that warm coat of yours. And yes, the Cell Jrs. are named after those who voiced him. Including Curtis, who is Curtis Arnott. Aka Takahata101. Self-indulgent? Yes. Deserved? Oh hell yes. But the worst part of this episode was Bulma saying "Nucular" instead of "Nuclear". It speaks for the episode that's the worst part.

Yes, the bird was used in a similar manner to show that Gohan's passivism was flying away, and that the full potential of what was alluded to throughout DBZ was finally manifesting. Personally, I like how they gave Gohan no dialogue up to his transformation. For me it felt more raw and instantaneous.

Its funny to find geeks when watching reactions to TFS and alike and how people share this sense of exploding while seeing a huge moment not just because its cool but because they really feel it, even more when its not a sad moment but one of bravery made in a subtle way that you need to have a real connection to the show or the style to feel it . My God, Linkin Park jokes! Back in the day before RUclips there were AMV's of DBZ primary made with Linkin Park song quoted by Cell 23:33. That's how I first got into rock. If it wasn't for either Linkin Park or Dragon Ball Z, I would not have been intrested in rock.
Linkin Park was the first rock band I ever heard. And the first 5 songs I heard from them, One Step Closer and In The End being 2 of them, I heard from Gohan SS2 AMV vids. This is my favorite part of the entire series, and I LOVED those references 💯

I hear you about having kept the hype for a year on this after being so hooked to it haha,I’ve had that thing on me a lot saying WHY ISN’T THE NEXT PART OUT YET I NEED IT,lol. Just watched all of episode 60 all together for the first time. I thought dbza was gold before but dang, these episodes were freaking good...

Good call for your wishes for the episode and that they turned true. I have really been fashinated by TFS´s interpretation of Perfect Cell. In Japanese media someone beliving to be Perfect are really fragile. Once they are proven wrong they just crumble into a empty shell. And this Cell have shown a lot of hints to his inner problems he obviously can´t see. And then ofcourse the combination of Vegeta and Gokus personality shows. Cell belives Goku is the ultimate fighter and the only one to understand him. As they showed in thier fight. It is just so good. I am planing stories and my own comic book that might or might not become a concept or not. But I am writing a lot of notes for the characters and I know that you need to make them see themself, meet thier own weakness and show them coming out of it diffrently. I think Gohans inner transformation here is beautiful. I mean I have and am much like Gohan. I don´t like violence in real life. I hate war. But I know if I have to, if I face someone who I belive only will respond to violence or if that is the only way to stop them hurting someone there and now I whould jump in and take the hit if I could. Not becuse I want to. But becuse I don´t want them to get away with it.

I can only speak for myself, but I would totally love to see you do another reaction to part 1 before part 2 comes out. In addition to there being so many subtle quips and references that you can miss the first time ("your compliance isn't really a factor."), I feel like you have more to say that the emotion of the first time was making it too difficult to express. Either way, I can't wait for your next video as I honestly think you're one of the best reactors on the internet!
