It still amazes me, to this day no less, that no one on the set bothered to tell Levar Burton he needed to change his costume. In the final scene in Ten Forward, he's still wearing the alternate universe uniform.
@@mr.adventure0142 They were actually running out of the turtleneck undershirts and needed to preserve them for the TOS movies - the collars in particular had a very specific stitching pattern that was hard to do. That's also why in "Tapestry", Picard and his fellow Academy grads are wearing crew neck undershirts (those scenes were set in 2327).
And here all this time, I thought the blue hue in the bottom left corner was my TV screen being degaussed by the speaker in that location. Years later I find out - it's part of the film process.
That’s a lot of changes, the new ‘anomaly’ CGI is interesting, almost identical but with extra fine detail, that’s how to do it right though, exactly how you remember it, but better.
@@TrekkieChannel Two Star Trek animated series, Star Trek: Lower Decks is coming to CBS All-Access and Star Trek: Prodigy is coming next year on Nickelodeon.
Paramount and CBS Digital performed miracles on this set, and I'm so glad to have this on BD. I was born in 76, so I go to grow up on TOS reruns, the TOS era movies, and the broadcast premier of TNG and the rest. It's always amazing to see how much detail was locked away in the 35 mm OCN, just waiting to be revealed. So much great TV is locked away in "shot on film but finished on tape" hell, unfortunately.
@@TrekkieChannel I just bought the blu ray collection and used your video as comparison, it looks so good, I'm excited to watch this in a new light !!!
@@TrekkieChannel I dislike almost all HD remasters, but even I can't argue the TNG Remaster is beautifully done. Keeps original aspect ratio and (almost all) original effects. The details in the ships and sets that were always there get to be seen far more clearly.
See, this is how you want to use modern effects with old film. Don't add stuff that wasn't originally there, amplify what was already there. Star Wars re-makes should take notes.
TNG was completely remastered in high def from original film stock, no other Star Trek after TNG was shot on film, therefore there can never be a true HD version
AFAIK that's not true - the actors were still shot on 35mm film and I'm pretty sure DS9 still had a lot of model work that was also shot on film. But Voyager and later seasons of DS9 had a lot of CGI instead of practical models and that was rendered at broadcast resolution and never printed back on film. However I also heard that some CG artists that worked on Voyager said they still have all the files so it would be possible to easily render them out in higher resolution. In other words it would be possible to remaster both DS9 and Voyager, but it's just not financially feasible for them to do so, especially since DS9 and Voyager aren't as popular as TNG and would very likely cost way more to remaster.
@@Undy1 They are doing DS9. That was announced. BTW, I was watching Star Trek Enterprise with the commentary and the guys who worked on the show said that it was the first with FX that were entirely cgi. the show still looks fantastic because of it. The Battlestar Galactica reboot came shortly after and I remember it looking phenomenal.
@@jimperry4108 Nothing like that was ever announced, there were some rumors here and there but nothing official. Don't get your hopes up, it's probably not happening. The closest to an official announcement was an article that they are doing a demastered version of DS9 and Voyager (on VHS) - it was an April fools article but it still pops up as one of the top search results when searching for DS9 remaster.
I didn’t even realize that these Blu-Ray remasters were available until I find them mentioned on RUclips. I’ve bought both ST:TOS and ST:TNG box sets on eBay today. I’m watching these comparison videos and I can’t wait to see the entire episodes of both series’. I already have both on DVD and don’t watch them all that often. But I feel like it’s two brand new shows to watch now. I hope all of the other Star Trek shows get the same attention and remastered.
I wish somebody can edit in a way for him to say "I eat pieces of shit like them for breakfast" when they talk about returning to the hopeless fight against the Romulans.
thanks for doing this, but my god could you cut down the time on the text frames? it's like an eternity of reading that horrible yellow-outlined blue text (poor legibility color choices). please edit this better please
Yes, I agree 100% I felt I was missing out on enjoying most of the changes because the person who made this was so fast to throw his comments in. He should've not only cut back on the commentary, she should've given us a few more frames before and after the changes so we could visually truly enjoy the comparisons.
Wow having only seen the Blu Ray versions I feel cheated. I always thought the "beam me up" effect was a little wanting compared to the TOS version, now I realize the original effect was cooler and the remaster changed more than I was aware.
deep space nine is now getting a similar treatment for the entire series. completely rescanned and reedited with new special effects. Voyager will probably soon follow.
If all this work is why they're not upgrading Deep Space 9 then I say don't bother, all that is needed is widescreen and high definition, the special effects were already amazing and if anything a little bit of realism is lost when replacing physical model ships with CGI ships.
A tiny bit of realism lost with the upgraded special effects. While their crisper and brighter, CGI never quite looks as real as actual physical models.
Honestly the blurray isnt that much of an improvement honestly lol i mean the dvds are just fine compared to the Blu-ray version of the show upscaling and enhancing the video footage really only improved it by 10-15% better than the dvd version imo the dvd set is just as good as the Blu-ray if you're mote interested in the story than the imagery it isnt worth the increase cost of the Blu-ray version over the dvd set lol
@michaelmcintoshatky I 100% disagree. After watching TNG on Blu-ray for years I find the DVDs unwatchable. The transfer is fantastic, the model footage has never looked better and the amazing bonuses... Can't recommend the Blu-rays enough
I had to stop watching about half through because of the incredibly distracting and irritating moving star field at the top and the bottom (not the first to point this out).
It still amazes me, to this day no less, that no one on the set bothered to tell Levar Burton he needed to change his costume. In the final scene in Ten Forward, he's still wearing the alternate universe uniform.

Thank you for this great illustration of all the great work down by the restoration team!!!
Excellent episode.
One of the best ST episodes ever made.
Master class on how to bring a dead character to life, and then keep the door open.
Master class on writing mind-bending time twisters in general.
the moving star field behind the video clips is really distracting af

Actually my most favorite of the Next Generation episodes
I'd probably put it to my top 10 list too
"All Good Things" was the best (despite the plot holes), but "Yesterday's Enterprise" was a close second.

Quite a dramatic difference. The blu ray is definitely higher res, better contrast, and more natural color.
