After reading some of comments it validates what I’ve known for sometime. Music lacks the authentic meanings, unique song style, voice and professionalism of today’s poor excuse for music. I’m 71 and a music foodie 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
Gene has been my favourite since I saw him in concert at age 13. I'd actually gone to see Andy Fairweather Low a support act But I was bowled over by Gene and at 68 I still am.
I honestly don't believe there has been another pop singer like Gene. His voice is so unique. My mum's friends used to like him so I never bothered. Then I went to his concert, aged 13, to see my absolute favourite, Amen Corner with Andy Fairweather Low. By the end, I was besotted with Gene. Never heard anything like his voice before or since. I've been besotted ever since, even though he's gone. Not only had he a lovely voice but such an endearing personality. Very intelligent too. He explained all about acoustics. I've never been able to resist a physicist.
'Endearing personality' a perfect description of Gene! Having got to know Gene, I could find nothing wrong with him at all, I found him to be friendly, caring, fun, generous, an all round lovely person - miss him so much. 😔
If anyone could sing an appropriate version of this masterful Paul Williams composition it has to be Gene Pitney. RIP Mr. Pitney, you helped me understand what it meant to grow up in our age.
Second comment: they were friends Gene and Ray Peterson “Tell Laura….” In fact Ray covered song written and sung as well “House Without Windows” both unique and “cut from same cloth. Musically light years then and certainly now and certainly then. We craved their music and only wish their kind could be resurrected again, both missed terribly.
