What an incredible performance by Gene Pitney. I have never heard this song before. It is so beautiful. I wish I could’ve been in the audience with him.
Not (only) someone...'wonderful'...but someone...(very) 'SPECIAL'. (Very much)...'underated'. This is (one of those artists)...that you (really)...don't...'appreciate'...until..."AFTER THEY'RE GONE"! The (late) Don Cornelius (of 'Soul Train')...once 'referred to him'...as (the 'GREAT') Gene Pitney. That (pretty much)..."SAYS IT ALL"! There will (never) 'be'...another one...LIKE HIM!
The 1966 American "Backstage"album featured some of Gene's best written and sung tunes. "Angelique", in my opinion, claims the centerpiece. To hear Pitney deliver this song accompanied by an orchestra is a rare treat, indeed. Thanks for sharing this!
I have been a fan since 1964 when I was 10 years old and heard I'm Going to be Strong. I never heard this song, Angelique, until just a year or two ago. I'd thought I'd heard them all. What a wonderful surprise it was to find this.
I always heard his post popular songs and never realized that there were so many others. Such a Super Great Singer. It broke my heart to find out how he passed away. It bothered me as much on the drive home in 1990 Late Feb, hearing about Dale Shannon commeted suicide. Just broke my heart.
We seen Gene a lot of times but he always brillant His song alays had a great story to tell..Who recall the great song *Town without Pity*. Im so sorry we nver seen that last Show in Wales just wish we could have been with him in the Bar then. It may have made the different to a Lad on his own.. So Sad RIP GENE.
Gene had a fabulous unique sounding voice that was filled with so much emotion. I wonder what made him so sad that he killed himself at 65, He had his incredible voice right up until the end. RIP. Gene was in a class of singers like Roy Orbision.....
SUCH A VERY SAD DAY 5th OF APRIL 2006, MY GRANDFATHERS & BROTHERS BIRTHDAYS, HE PASSED AWAY AFTER A GREAT PERFORMANCE, HE IS MISSED SO MUCH BY ALL HIS FANS. GOD BESS YOU GENE RIP.
hi Ben, I didn't know Del Shannon had killed himself - I saw him once (long time ago) got to say... I wasn't impressed with his "people skills". Gene died in alone in his hotel room, following an acclaimed performance at Cardiff 's St David's Hall.
Funnily enough, i once came across Del Shannon in Berwick St market, looking around him, clearly lost. He was polite enough to me. The strange thing was, I worked in a hotel where Gene Pitney often stayed, and he had been trying to get hold of Del at his hotel The Westbury, all morning - so I was able to pass that info on to him directly - and help Del find his way back to his hotel :)
What an incredible performance by Gene Pitney. I have never heard this song before. It is so beautiful. I wish I could’ve been in the audience with him.
First time I have heard this song Gene sings this so beautifully died to soon what a voice no-one has a voice like he did RIP Gene pitney xx
This is a spellbinding performance. I love the rapt attention of the audience.
Such a lovely song , sung as usual with a great interpretation, by Gene Pitney. In my opinion the world lost someone wonderful when he died.

I was wrong, it was Del Shannon, who, at 55 who killed himself. Gene died of heart failure at his Hotel during a Concert Tour.
I was at his concert in cardiff the last one before he left us so sad

Is your Gene Pitney website still active? I can't access it. Thanks.
Any body know what it said on the placard that Gene is holding at the end?
Angelica.
