📚hey guys excuse my bed hair-i literally just spent the whole day at home here lol. leave a comment if you have any summer favorites, or if you have any recommendations for me!! would LOVE to know, cuz summer is my fav time for reading
cherrien.. i really think you should have a podcast!! i absolutely love hearing you talk about things that interest you! and i think it would be so incredibly relaxing to listen to you talk about books for an hour (or longer!) i love your content and im glad i stumbled across you
omg😂 podcasts never crossed my mind before but thank you for suggesting it!! idk if i’d ever start one but i’d like to be on one someday. sounds fun xx
just started journaling in my self care journal and this video popped up at the right time! thank you for all the healing you provide and for all the positive energy! I look forward to every video 🩷
I like this video. I love when people talk about the books they bought and how they felt after they finished reading the book. I hope you will continue to make videos related to things like this. After watching this video, I added several book titles to my wishlist of books that I would buy.
Watched your vlog for the first time ever and I really loved it!! The vibe, the music and the way you speak everything is so calm and soothing!! Can't wait to watch your future vlogs~ You're doing a great job 💗
love to hear you talk about books and your readings, definitely taking note of some of these! i saw on the pile ‘giovanni’s room’ and if you haven’t read it yet i would really really recommend… my fav read from 2024 so far
YES!! i took giovanni with me to hong kong and read it on the plane over-then never finished after the trip🥹 so really looking foward to get back into it. thanks for the lovely comment xx
As for Murakami, I recently also read his two books for the first time. And if his novel "after dark" (my the very first novel by Murakami) was an interesting experience and I loved it. I've read it very quickly and decided to read another of his novels and I chose "Kafka on the shore". Well, it's true he has a very strange depiction of the female characters and sex. It's very uncomfortable to read and I'm going to need some time to read another novel written by him
@@cherrienjung haha thanks 😩 but I still hope that this novel of his that you chose will be interesting! and I wrote a comment before I heard that in the future you want to try to read Kafka on the shore or the Norwegian wood. my advice is to find information about trigger warnings. lot's of stuff quiet disturbing. btw thank you for the video and I hope you have a wonderful week 🫶🏻
Sameee After Dark was my first ever pick and my second was After The Quake which was really good too! Very light too. Buuut haven`t gotten into Kafka or any other of his more known books... For now I will just reread After Dark lol
i feel the exact way about murakami-his books can be quite uncomfortable as a female reader (which is why i stopped reading him), but after dark is definitely my favorite of his
I really recommend you reading Kafkha on the Shore. It is my favorite book of Murakami next to Norwegian Wood. Also, thank you for your reading lists! Will definitely check them out :))
Thank you for your videos and book list! Murakami is the guy! I recently finished Dance, Dance, Dance. I read Norwegian Wood first and became hooked on his work.
we stan Cusk! love the way her characters in the Outline trilogy put up their vulnerabilites on full display. if you need a good fiction rec for summer, Francois Sagan's Bonjour Tristesse is a wonderful summery read! happy reading ^^
I think 'Violets' by Kyung-Sook Shin might fit your summer reading vibes. I found it very melancholic and its a bit more slice of life vibes. I also recommend 'Everyone in this room will someday be dead' by Emily Austin. It is a sad girl book with a little bit of humour.
ouu definitely interested in reading simple pleasures, i have added it to my goodreads tbr. i’m still in the process of creating my summer list, but i know i want to read the creative act by rick rubin, it’s been sitting on my shelf for a minute now hehe
oh, oh and i almost forgot, i also want to read, 101 essays to change the way you think by brianna wiest. i am currently reading when you are ready, this is how you feel by wiest, and oh my goodness has it had an impact, i highly recommend
I read Murakami’s Norwegian Woods and I have not recovered since then… personally, I also don’t click with his style of writing and his depiction of sexuality which is why I would kinda avoid his works anytime I went to a bookstore. This does not mean that he is a bad writer by anyway, it just that I find it difficult to fully grasp his ideas. (I also highlighted every misogynistic and sexist comment he has on female bodies in Norwegian Woods…)
Hello, we share the same taste when it comes to books it seems. I also read Crying in H Mart and loved it. I read the first book of the trilogy of Rachel Cusk and I have Outline waiting for me. I have Yellowface on my TBR but I haven't read it yet, I had read mixed reviews but your opinion makes me want to pick it again. I haven't read Murakami yet for exactly the same reasons as yours ! I also follow Lauren's account, I also follow the Booker Prize and the Women Prize for recommandations and my library has a great selection of books in English (I live in France). Also Goodreads and a few RUclipsrs I follow give me good recommandations about books !
so happy that you put out this video so soon after you replied to my comment :)) it was a great video as always! i definitely going to pick up outline by rachel cusk next!!
I hope you'll share your views on these books in summer I'm definitely going to wait! About Anni Ernaux, I laughed at "the most beautiful delicate female being" lol it's exactly how i felt when I read her too! Thank you for normalizing the hot summers darkness cause I do struggle in summer temperatures and it makes me really grumpy and melancholic all summer too :/
thx sm for the recommendations I currently still have a lot of books I’d like to read for example days at the morisaki bookshop by satoshi yagisawa which I heard a lot of good stuff about! For recommendations I can definitely recommend heaven by Mieko Kawakami she’s my fav author bc her writing style really captivates you and her story’s are mostly questioning society in some way which I find really enjoyable to read :)
oof-mieko kawakami’s been on my list for A WHILE. i actually ordered breasts and eggs last week, but heaven seemed amazing as well. cant wait to read it this summer🤍 tysm for the recs xx
if you haven't read it already i highly recommend "disorientation" by Elaine Hsieh Chou, it tackes similar themes as Yellowface (except in academia instead of the publishing industry) but far better and with more depth :) thank you for your lovely, calm videos! i think i'm going to read crying in h-mart this summer
i’m not sure if you’ve watched katie james on booktube but i’ve gotten some great titles from there and i think you’d be interested in a lot of books she suggests. love your videos x ♡
one of my favorite books of all time is a book titled ' i'll be right there' by kyung sook shin it's just wonderful i don't know if you heard about it but if you didn't i reommend checking it out i hope you'll like it.
I see your video for a little. I liked your way of thinking and registered. The evaluation of the book of Haruki Murakami feels like being divided right in the two.
After 4 books from Murakami, I can tell you that is true, I find his ways depict women quite disturbing and at some points, disgusting. Even I really like his writing style but when he say something ab women I always feel uncomfortable.
oh no😭 ty for the comment and yess. exactly.why.i’ve been putting it off until now… but i’m willing to push pass it once, for literature. fingers crossed !!
@@cherrienjung of course, just read it, this is a good book after all, and if you can please read dance dance dance after you finish this book cuz I feel like they are series.
i thought the same too, now im reading colorless and currently contemplating on why he describes women like that. I guess it's because all the stories are based on "my bad counter with women" so that's why it's all bad prejudice. Unless one time he decides to write about a nice happy go round story and he still describes women the same as before, then he's just purely maidenless 😭😭😭😭
