This era of the Rigid Pro/Cineback rigs is amazing. It's like the grown up and way more practical version of all of us adding rails/matteboxes/follow focuses to our T3i bodies back in the day.
Ah nice man! Always glad to hear it when people pick something up and it works out for them. For me it's a night and day improvement on my previous messy (shitty) rig
Forgot to mention specifically in this video but it is available for other cameras including S5ii, G9ii, XH2s, FX3, FX30, A7siii, A7IV! (also GH6/GH7 which I did mention!)
Love the video Ed! I currently use a similar “bits and bobs” rig for my S5ii, but seeing a rig like this def makes me think about upgrading. Also would make me feel better about having this serve as a proper B Cam for my Kinefinity. Great content as usual mate!
Nice review! I've been thinking about getting one of these for my Sony a7siii. What do you say to the "voices" online that say "Just get a cinema camera?" You might have already answered the question now thst I think as I type. You mentioned having the option of going from a heavy rig to a light one when needed. I like that flexibility.
Yeah lots of reasons - flexibility and convenience mainly. Maybe you don't want a full on cine cam all the time... Maybe you're happy enough with the image quality from your mirrorless but occasionally want a more pro setup for certain shoots or just better rigging options. Modern cameras are so competent now that you don't always need to spend a lot more on a larger cine cam... even if you do you're probably still gonna have to rig it up with other bits and bobs anyway.
S5iiX rig master videos, completely out of purpose for me but very interesting to see. Would be great to see a video or have suggestions for a lightweight travel rig.
I do have the tilta nucleus, but often I like pulling focus by hand or rely on AF lenses when I'm using the S5 iix. I do also have the DJI focus pro but still testing it out
Thanks - Great review as always. I am always nervous about powering cameras and monitors off the same batterry for fear of frying the hdmi port when powering up/down - I know this was an issue with Blackmagic cameras I have had in the past. Do you know Ed if Lumix cameras are as susceptible to this or if their cameras are better grounded to avoid such issues? Even RED & Arri I believe advise users when powering up to connect SDI/hdmi cables 'last', and to remove them 'first' when powering down... I am quite forgetful so I just power either the monitor OR camera off the v-lock... never the two, even tho it would be way more convenient to do the latter..
I haven't had any issues, I generally follow the protocol with my Komodo but lots of times batteries have died or cable has been pulled out - and never had an issue touch wood.
It's not very big, you can store the camera without lens / battery and it'll fit in most average sized cam bags. I'd usually transport it in a pelicase with a lens on, I can fit it in the same case as my Komodo I think it's the Peli 1535.
It's cool and looks great -but none of these mods / cineback / rigid pro things allow us to use the XLR unit for the S5iix without buying other dangly cables and hanging the unit off the back somewhere.
Caleb Pike was not the first person / company to make these, these cine rig bases have existed in various forms from a few manufacturers. He also does not have a LUMIX S5 iix edition (although I believe he is making one).
Hi Ed, Look impressive!!😅😅😅 Personally because I relay on AF C and I need to have free access to the Camera Monitor and the AF dials of the Lumix it is not for me...but for manual PL lenses for sure it is a nice setup or with the hypothetic DJI Focus Pro product which should be out month ago and got forgotten by DJI😂😂😂😂😂.Any news about the true release date ?or did someone sue them for X? Nice Video Yours Fil😊
I've had a focus pro for a few months, bought it from a shop as usual... I think they're just low in stock / high demand. You can obviously still use the monitor as normal with this rig
Did you watch the video? You can buy separate components and it'll come in a little cheaper but it won't be the same result. This is what I did with my previous rig and it was very messy and jangly, I personally much prefer this solution.
No not at all, the look is a bonus (to some people). This rig has functional benefits... the v mount battery being the main one and the mounting points and overall shape of the rig are preferable for handheld shooting (for me anyway)
Getting this exact setup

Haha I know, we're totally spoilt for choice,.esp. with what these small cams are capable of
Saw your rig and decided to purchase one for myself. I love it and the camera feels way more professional and solid
Ah nice man! Always glad to hear it when people pick something up and it works out for them. For me it's a night and day improvement on my previous messy (shitty) rig
Looks great and super professional. The best part is you can still break it down to the smaller body again if you needed to!
I thought my previous rig was great until I compared it to this, which makes it look like a hot mess. Haha.

It’s also available for the Fuji XH2s/XH2. I know because I have one for the XH2s. :)
@@TheJ_G whoops yes forgot to add that!
@@TheJ_Ghow do you like it?
@@Eyeofkamau It’s great. No complaints. It does exactly what it claims to do.
My, my , my...that is one sexy looking rig!!!
Definitely getting one when my S5IIx is here at the end of the year.
bro this rig looks sooooo clean 🤤
It's so much cleaner than my previous setup, I love it!
Finally someone has reviewed this!
*May* be getting one for my XH2s
It's a nice piece of kit!

Yeah it definitely looks the part next to a more impressive a-cam

trying to se how i want to rig my s5iix as well🤔
S5iiX rig master videos, completely out of purpose for me but very interesting to see. Would be great to see a video or have suggestions for a lightweight travel rig.
Probably just a camera cage and a top handle.
Great rig! Do you use any follow focus with it?
I do have the tilta nucleus, but often I like pulling focus by hand or rely on AF lenses when I'm using the S5 iix. I do also have the DJI focus pro but still testing it out
small rig has really been immpressing me, i have the vb99 and 155, wish it had 2 dtap ports on the smaller ones
the VB212 is a beast but it can just sit on your camera the whole day! Not great if you're flying a lot though.
*gasp!* Did you get your S5iiX back Ed?! That *is* a cool rig 🖤
Yes my insurance came through in the end!

How do you pack this in a case? Do you completely break it down to pack in a case? What case or camera bag do you use for this?

@@EdProsser Thanks for the quick reply.
Would love to see some energetic hand held footage shot on this without IBIS! Great vid Ed!
I'm too old for energetic
Is it useable with the Panasonic XLR adapter?
Unfortunately I don't think it is, but I don't have / use one
Im going ursa from s5. I just need 120 for food shots :(

Yeah that's true, I don't use one though, very happy with my Zoom F3 as I can use it between camera systems.
They are working on a mod soon🤫
@@MatthewDangyouwould like to see that
Saw you replied to my fb post but.... would love a video on the Z6iii if you managed to get your hands on it!
I'd love to try one!
Interesting choice of battery...
🤷♂️ it wasn't intentional haha
all of that yet the hdmi output is still lagging..
Apprently its greatly reduced on the GH7... fingers crossed that makes its way to the S5iiX
You can Solve it, disabling audio via HDMI
I wanna see one of these in vertical rig
we do too. We've prototyped a few vertical rigs, but nothing we're happy enough to release (yet).
Couldn't get the Shinobi to fill the frame desqueezing 1.5x anamorphic from 3:2. The Osee is much better and cheaper for this.
Hmm I've not noticed any issues I don't think? It does have horrific bezels though
Has anybody tried this with the tilta half cage?
Yes Josh Cameron has I believe it fits
this looks like a DIRECT knock off of Caleb Pike's cine back

Whats that red button on top of our handle? if its record button, shut up and take my money
Can't you get the same result for cheaper by just using a rod system?

Pyxis cosplay.
