Well said. It was the last NASCAR race I ever watched. I have a photo of Dale shaking hands with my young son at a car dealership here. I don't think the drivers today do those anymore, shaking hands with fans and signing autographs. There's no fun in NASCAR anymore. You want to see real racing, watch the stock car races from the 50's and 60's on RUclips.

No he didn't he loved racing so much he wanted it to go on for ever with his son and his shop the fans left because nascar dosnt know how to not be involved with who wins and the witch of the west made sure the next in line was disabled with the thought of his company being sold as a bill board and nothing more she didn't care about how the run as long as she makes money that's what killed nascar if his son would have been able to sit his his dad's chair at that deer head shop and make the decisions for the cars and she would have just did her job and bring the money it would be different but she micro manged the while shop and wouldn't spend the money to go fast only what would let them run that is why that is what gave jr. His confidence problem without that you can't win shit it carried on with him to hendricks I'm sorry but he was never the same after his dad died and that is what killed nascar the most popular driver held back by a greedy mother in law that wouldn't spend extra money on research or testing

The man lived, breathed and ate racing and working on cars. Had he lived I always envisioned Dale doing a television show and inviting some of his old racing buddies on there after his career was over and still doing some racing here and there like the 24 Hour races. Dale Earnhardt may be gone but his spirit and legend still lives and he would never leave NASCAR and he would be still in the sport in some capacity had he lived.

There's no doubt in my mind by now he'd be retired from the driver's seat but unquestionably he'd be a crew chief. Like Junior Johnson. He might own a racing team but his heart pumped 20W-50. For sure he'd have been a CC for Jr until he retired, then he'd still be doing it. Just like Junior.

That's too bad. He misses some good ones. Especially Dale Jr's 2001 July Daytona race. I can understand his pain but Dale Sr never would have wanted to be responsible for someone turning their back on the sport.

Seems like yesterday he was taken from us. It's still feels like its not even real that he is gone.
I will always remember that race. Thinking it wasn't that bad. To why's it taking Dale so long to get out? To....He's not getting out.😯 to the announcement. Dale was no longer with us. 😢😭
R.I.P. Dale. You won't be forgotten.

I was on the road truckin that day so I had my wife and my best buddy tape the race on VCR. My best buddy was just gettin into NASCAR and I told to watch ole Dale Earnhardt, my alltime favorite. I had never recorded a race before then. I stopped in Virginia long enough to rent a room just to watch the race. I sat on the edge of the bed in disbelief watching Allen Bestwick outside Halifax announcing that Dale had died. Had to reschedule my load. I sat in that room and wept for the better part of two days. Never met the man. I got lucky and met his Mama at Talladega and got her to sign a book about him for me. We surely miss Dale. It's never been the same.

AKsleepygirl I like the way you explained that feeling about Dale. I feel that way too. It was like losing a good friend, hard to explain to most people but I know you get it. Yea I was staring at the tv, local channel near Salem, Va. They cut to Halifax hospital where Allen Bestwick was standing out front saying that sources were saying Dale Earnhardt had died. I turned the tv off, cried a bit and called my wife. She hadn’t even heard yet. When I got home about three days later we watched all the news replays together and of then I saw the replay of Mike Helton making that famous announcement. I know most folks didn’t know until Mike made that announcement at press conference but I heard it from Allen Bestwick as he stood just outside the hospital. Maybe he wasn’t supposed to report that but he did and I saw it.
