You forgot my favorite line, “Take my handkerchief, Scarlet. Never, at any crisis of your life, have I known you to have a handkerchief.” This is towards the end of the movie, they’re standing in the doorway when of his bedroom.
Scarlett was told never to accept a handkerchief from a man, it's the height of intimacy. Yet Rhett is always giving her handkerchiefs and teasing her for never having her own. It's a tiny detail that I love so much

It's great how the book and movie are long, yet they're both about an unsympathetic main character. Rhett and Scarlett are fascinating, flawed characters and the story doesn't work otherwise.
I don't think they are as unsympathetic... I mean, Scarlett is nice, but... "I don't love Melanie" (actually she'd have better chances of getting Ashley if Melly died) "but I'll risk my life in Atlanta helping her give birth and I'll take her home". "I don't like my sisters, but I'll feed them because they're family". "I don't get on well with aunt Eulalia, but I'll send her money". She's a conniving girl who mastered in seduction because that's what her mother told her was right, but the moment her family needed, she hardened up and fed and clothed everyone in her family. Being a total bitch, but damn! She went all the way from pampered girl to main breadwinner, obviously she burned out and couldn't be nice about it. Many people burn out nowadays while taking care of their children, imagine a woman-child in her situation. I could very much empathize with her. If it were my family starving, I'd probably be a bitch about it, too. No wonder Melanie loves her and is loyal to a fault to her. Rhett is a bit of the same... Tough outside, tender inside. Pity they didn't have good therapists back then...

Although scarlett was to blame for their failing relationship, wished he stayed fight to save their marriage as she finally realised he was her true lover.
So true she was stuck on Ashley that her love for Ashley blinded her love for Rhett and then also plus the way she dangle Ashley in front of him didn't help eaither but I think the last straw was when there daughter died and when he saw crying on Ashley's lap he had enough and I think he was hurt and knew that he couldn't compete with Ashley
Yeah, so sad but it is not the end of the story. We don't know what was later. Maybe he forgave her and they got together. His first reaction was understandable...
Barbie Liu if you read the book Rhett fought for his marriage and Scarlett so bad, but as he said in the book, even "the most deahtless of loves can wear out"
Vivian Leigh was just downright babe-a-licious in this movie! DAYUM!!!! Ahem, in addition, of course, to her having delivered a carefullly-crafted, astoundingly convincing, brilliant performance.
The full scene is amazing. Rhett is super happy to see her (he's really infatuated with her) because no respectable person had gone to visit him at that point. He's probably thinking "she didn't want me when I was rich and adored, and she comes to visit me in jail? Does she love me? Yay, she DOES love me, yay for me!" He's crushed when he realizes he was lying to him, and he tries to be as cruel as possible. He probably regretted that when he found out about Mr. Kennedy.

This is my favorite film of all times. And this is because there is no happy-end. It would be a film like many other films if there wouold be a happy end.
@@Scheherasad if Scarlett and Rhett had got together at the end of the movie/book, it would have become just another historical romance. It is the fact that they DIDN’T that makes the story so enduring.
I can't stand his personality, but good character overall. Sad thing is people forget that both Scarlett AND Rhett were flawed people, but only focus on Scarlett's juvenile fragility while completely idolising Rhett's negative traits
Finesite Rhett was a flawed character but he didn’t try to hide it and pretend to be Mr perfect unlike scarlet who was flawed but still tried to act like an innocent damsel. That’s why some people don’t like scarlet. Rhett was an asshole, he knew it but still a good person deep down
@@emmanuel3929 "still tried to act like an innocent damsel" She didn't TRY, she was forced to. Remember her education? Something as innocent as "eating as much as I want in the barbecue" was forbidden: she was fed before she went out so she would "eat like a little bird" when not at home. In the book, you get more details aboout it: Scarlett cannot accept any presents that are not flowers or sweets, because anything else "will give the impression that you are not a lady and will give the gentleman license to treat you not as such". She had to act the part of the sweet lady... Until the war came and she became the head and main breadwinner of her family, and then she had to throw the ladylike facade. So, no, Scarlett did not act like a proper lady because she was a hypocrite: she acted like a lady because she was forced to. In the book, she even complains about having to do that. Had a girl with her abilities been born in our times, she would have had an astonishing career, her own money, and sex with both Ashley (until she got bored) and Rhett. As for Scarlett, she took care of Melanie and her baby, to her EXTREME risk of being raped and murdered, just because she had promised. She was made the head and breadwinner of her family (including two sisters, a senile father, Melanie, a baby and ex-slaves which were family members at that point) before age 20, despite having been spoiled rotten during the first sixteen years of her life. Despite all that, she is the breadwinner for her family (swears against hunger for her and her people, not just for her). So she's not 100% selfish either, she's just been horribly educated. The reason why Rhett can be snarky and Scarlett can't is because Scarlett is more frustrated because of the facade she has to maintain. Back in those times, if you weren't a lady, you were screwed. So, Rhett can be a jerk, but Scarlett can't. It's not approved by society.
Retth Butler is the definition of a bad boy, which is unfortunately something our misogynistic society celebrates. Men can go around and be their worst and celebrated while women are ruined for the slightest transgression.
The guy was always straight. She always said he wasn`t any good nor a gentleman. But he always gave Scarlett his love and his fortune. Love always has to be in both sides. Rhett at the end got sick and tired as every human being would be if your lover is always crying about another person.
OMG. That scene where she takes a dive down the stairs after saying she is pregnant. I am rolling. I am crying over here. It is the perfect definition of a modern woman.
How pathetic that establishment media gurus have banned the viewing of Gone with the Wind due to the presence of slaves. Deleting a movie from their files does not erase its existence. Fans will always find a way to keep watching one of the great movies ever made. Fiddly do!
What always made me mad about Rhett and Scarlet is how unjust to her age he is. When they met she is only 16 and he is like 35? He critisize her all the time as childish and immature when he himself was the same till in his 30-ties, minus all the responcibilities she bears a top of that. When she finally grows up as a person he got tired and left.
Elena Savova finally someone who sees this!! Rhett was unfair to Scarlett in many ways, and if it wasn't for Rhett I don't think Scarlett would have renounced her mother's teachings so early. And then he married her knowing very well that she was in love with Ashley. Later he turned the town against her and made himself a victim and got in people's good books when he had done far worse things than she did. And of all this wasn't enough he finally took away her mills and made her sell them with trickery. That was her life's work and he had no right to deprive her of it. I think he couldn't bear the fact that she didnt love him.
Both in book and movie, Rhett gets away with more than Scarlett does. "Rhett is honest, Scarlett is a hypocrite!" Rhett is only as honest as he's allowed to, as long as he doesn't give a damn. Once he has Bonnie, he becomes as much of a hypocrite as Scarlett. And Scarlett is a hypocrite because she has been taught all her life she HAS to, or she won't be a lady, and when you're not a lady "men think they can treat you differently". Basically, a girl with a ruined reputation was an acceptable target for a lot of bad stuff. Scarlett was taught to be a conniving bitch, so she was. Still, she was loyal to a fault to all her people (yes, she sacrificed Suellen's fiancé... for everyone else. But that was only after failing to become a prostitute in order to feed, clothe and shelter all her family, which was a HUGE deal back then). Both are very similar... Scarlett just matures more slowly than Rhett does... which makes total sense, considering the age difference. She is a child at 16, a hardened child at 18-26, and becomes an adult woman at 28. Normal rate.
That is just woman bulls...t. Scarlet was a mean, selfish, hypocrital, greedy, jeaolus bi...tch. She never care for any of her 3 husbands. She lied viciously about her sister just to marry her boyfriend. Rhett saw this and he always face her. What do you mean that she finally grow up? Rhett would need to wait `till she were 80. Get out of here. Scarlett was unfaitfully, she didn`t banged Ashley only because the guy was loyal to his wife, which by the way, was a great woman and lady. Rhett gambled everything for her wife, gave her everything, his soul, his love, his fortune. His reward was loosing 2 children, losing a fortune in Scarlet bull s..t, and won a cuckold reputation. At the end the guy had enough of that worthless woman.

Omg, I love him so much...
MAGNIFICO
"frankly my dear i dont give a damn"
I straight up cheered at that part, he def deserved better and he knew
Of course!! At last one woman that is agree with me!
You left out when he gave his word as " a gentleman."
That is the second best line in the movie.
I had read the novel 2 times and saw the movie 4 times and cannot get enough of it ...
Men like this have all died out
They dont give a damn...
Mehrunes'Razor 🤣🤣🤣
frankly my dear I dont give a damm about your comment
because they all got sued.
@Bill McQ epic
I love this man !!
Felt also he carried the guilt of Scarlett’s miscarriage. They never talked about it. After the incident she basically ignored him.
Yeah, so sad but it is not the end of the story. We don't know what was later. Maybe he forgave her and they got together. His first reaction was understandable...
I think he was exhausted in trying to get through to the Scarlett-child.
Clark Gable was so goddamn gorgeous and mesmerizing.
I think EVERY Rhett's line is iconic ❤
My fav of all time!
1:07 "You're not worth $300!"
The full scene is amazing. Rhett is super happy to see her (he's really infatuated with her) because no respectable person had gone to visit him at that point. He's probably thinking "she didn't want me when I was rich and adored, and she comes to visit me in jail? Does she love me? Yay, she DOES love me, yay for me!"
He's crushed when he realizes he was lying to him, and he tries to be as cruel as possible. He probably regretted that when he found out about Mr. Kennedy.
Sou fascinada por esse filme
Esse homem é fantástico
Ele é muito vivo e eternizado nessa linda obra
E o vento levou
Gone with the Wind
Não me canso de olhar
The soundtrack of this movie and these scenes will remain in the history of humanity.
Best film ever made... Like this số much
The King!
"Francamente,minha querida,tô cagando pra vc!!"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Como não amar Rett Butler????
The World miss this kind of man. .
We`re plenty of men like him, but we`re just MGTOW. There are a lot of b...itches like Scarlett out there, so no thanks.
Filmul meu de suflet... De la el îmi încarc bateriile atunci cînd mi e greu...
Every woman should have a Rhett Butler.
I just wished that we saw them one time, at the end of the movie, holding each other happy. And for me it was so hard see Bonnie die!!!!
He was such a handsome man my goodness need to fan my self i got the vapors 😅 seriously though what a charming bastard i enjoy every scene he was in
I haven't seen this movie yet, (plan on it very soon, promise!) but that scene where she falls down the stairs made me wheeze, I have to be honest.
What a man !
Beautiful movie
Oooooh... I so love this movie? Every minute!!!!
Such a wonderful movie .
I need a Rhett Butler in my life! He would be the only man for me!!
Rhett was an asshole, he knew it but still a good person deep down
@@emmanuel3929 "still tried to act like an innocent damsel"
She didn't TRY, she was forced to.
Named my son Rhett ❤ he's the most noble.
Even with his errors
Hes so handsome, he just right for her real man but some times crule words from him to het yet Scarlett loves him really ....
The man.
There’s so many costumes changes each clip looks like a different movie. 😄
How pathetic that establishment media gurus have banned the viewing of Gone with the Wind due to the presence of slaves. Deleting a movie from their files does not erase its existence. Fans will always find a way to keep watching one of the great movies ever made. Fiddly do!
Hehe, fiddly fuckin do
Best Movie ever, Forever
Frankly, my dear, I DO give a damned, if it's concerning Clark Gable. The World's first, "BOSS" !! I do, Gable movies all day on my birthday's.
I’m reading the book now. Rhett is the beat.
this man....
That’s a valid point. He also knew she was hung up on Ashley and figured he could change that. He did what women have been doing for years. 🤣
Rhett Butler is James Bond grandfather!
These ladies will not on speaking terms with their husbands tmr 😂😂😂
Kimmie Lee that’s my Favorite one! That and “do you know I could divorce you for this?”
Hahaha
Clark Gable was the king of Hollywood.
I love how Rhett doesn't put up with any of Scarlett's shit:)
Best film ever and the 2 best characters
I’m sorry i just cant take my eyes off Viv. It was perfect casting
The amo Clark, meu eterno e amado Rhett Butler💋💕💖

The best movie that i've ever seen 💖💯
Here's a soldier of the south who loves you Scarlett. Oh Clark...!
RIP🌹🌹🌹👍
Rhett loved and loved Scarlett, but in the end, frankly, he didn't give damn
Well, can you blame the guy? 12 years already of her not reciprocating his love.
@@tracys169 And the worst of it, his wife was always thinking in another man. She even kept the picture of that man with her.
