I did quite well until I got to 10,000 feet on the return to the lower atmosphere and I blew it up somehow. So much fun.

It actually has a Speedbrake(on the throttle) I used during decent myself. I started this challenge over at least ten times, to get the vehicle up to speed (as I had to figure out myself what's going on with the controls, especially during high speed rolls) and was so afraid of the landing - luckily I had the right amount of skill and luck, to end up in one piece on the Runway after 36 minutes in VR with 2 Buttkicker punishing me during all those course corrections at Mach 9+ :0 (◍•ᴗ•◍)
If you take your time at 4:00 and pull up slowly (make sure to be under 1.2G) you can reach 3 MACH with the first maneuver within a few seconds. From there you can directly accelerate to 10 MACH.
The game instructions actually need to be followed to reach Mach 10.

I mean at the moment you can see in the video in minute 4. This is the time you roll over again. If then pull up your nose slowly and stay under 1.2G force (see Instrument in plane) you gonna reach 3 MACH quickly to start the other engines.
I just did the challenge flight in VR and... O.M.G. That is one hell of an experience, ESPECIALLY when those scramjets fire up!!. Crashed on first landing attempt. 2nd one was successful. This is one heck of a (FREE??!?!) addon.
How are you playing this game in VR, if you don't mind sharing...
@@engineereells79 If you have a vr headset that works on pc like the meta quests, you need to connect it to your pc via cable/virtual desktop. You have to enable developer mode if you're using cable. after that you just have to start the game and inside settings you press on vr mode.
Inside the menu you can either oress "SWITCH TO VR" or look at the keybinds and use the keybind to toggle vr mode on and off.

Armchair Pilot: Landing this is simplicity itself. Just come in a lot faster, and a lot higher, then cross control everything, and side slip the mother down all the way, not forgetting to kick her straight again just before touchdown. As a bonus, you will have a nice view out of the side window to help see where you are going!
The "DarkStar" is an actual plane, kinda. It's based off of the early ideas for the SR-72, which Lockheed-Martin is currently working on within their SkunkWorks branch, which is the logo on the plane in the movie.
Imagine how cool it would be to fly one of these

In VR it's amazing and a lot simpler then it should be.
I can’t believe that I had landed successfully on that mystery airplane. 🤙😂
Once you turn on the scramjets, pitch up and hold 15 degrees nose up (instead of 10 degrees in the objectives tab). IAS will drop to a minimum of ~220kts and with the "Asobo magic thrust" you'll shoot straight up to 275,000ft. once you get above 200,000ft you'll hit Mach 10.
If you did what the mission told you and started cruising Mach 9 @ 120,000ft, you will not reach Mach 10. You can dive and climb but the max is about Mach 9.8. Once below 100,000ft (mesopause?) the Mach number falls significantly.

Needed to do a bit of a climb/descend/climb/descend patten to help build up momentum to get to Mach 3 but I figured it out eventually. However I had massive stutters at Mach 9 which kind of spoiled the fun element. When I descended, the stutters made it very difficult to control the descent and I overstressed the aircraft. Half an hour down the drain 😂
I kept getting a BSOD at mach 9 lol. Turned out my CPU overclock was too aggressive but all fixed now
I finally had a successful takeoff and climb to Mach 10, only to have the plane stutter and fail, minutes from Canaveral .

Wrong! The news media made a sucker out of you. they made a connection with the hypersonic test bed with a missile project called aurora.. the news media needed a fancy buzz word. Before you talk out your arse, do the research.
Its a fun flight and challenge, I've made it ones and landed it alright but somehow it never stopped the flight and made it to complete even though I landed at runway 13. Oh well maybe next time I will get a complete :)

That would have been very useful for my first and only Stratospheric flight so far, which I completed in 34 minutes and 21 seconds, my pitch control has a strong sensitivity curve of -66%. I touched down a bit hard with big AoA at 113 knots.

It does have air / speed brakes. When you use your spoiler axis like for any other jet you will see the two rear rudder tail wings turn and function as speed brakes :-) ** I was like 40, love it when I make it a nice round number but will undoubtedly go much higher ** Great video showing how it's done, I still need to go that high and that fast with this bird yet... watch fuel because I feel out the sky right at Bristol airport where I wanted to land but just did not make it LoL Sparky habit I'm afraid.

🤣 man I just did this it took me probably 4 to 5 tries and that was just hitting mach 4 then 9 because my speed kept going down it took me 53 minutes glad it's over 😮💨😌 I feel like they should have had a checkpoint system for when you hit different mach speeds even when you get to the stratosphere the only checkpoint they have is when you hit cape Canaveral 🤣

Getting speed up requires following the instructions as closely as possible.

1:46 sorry, that doesn’t make sense. Just because you have a non-linear sensitivity curve doesn’t mean you have more or less maximum input into the sim, it just gets to the same place differently. The only way to do that is adding deadzones. Also don’t know why you are having to pull all the way on the stick to take off and the way it unsticks itself from the runway is also weird, I don’t have these issues. I don’t need to pull that much on my flight stick even with my sensitivity curve set to -30. Something is rather strange there, have you messed with the CG of the plane in the weights window or the flight surfaces authority or whatever it’s called where you can lessen the authority of the elevators by up to two degrees by any chance?
Based on forum issues being reported and my own experience…my suggestions were what solved the issue, might be specific to the Hotas one, not sure.
I wonder if the pilot hears the sonic boom when crossing Mach one speed. I think he wouldn’t hear it until he slows to subsonic

when i test flew the darkstar yesterday i got to over 250,000FT but after that the altitude meter freezes
You mean 275,000 feet, that’s the max sim altitude.

Real aircraft Mark, not fiction. This is the Lockheed SR72 Darkstar that the military calls the son of the Blackbird. It is a UAV, an unmanned aerial vehicle, capable of mach 6. They announced it in 2017 and they say it should be fully operational by 2025 for its 1st test flight.

@E W Yeah but, the SR-72 has a different design and it's a UAV that's not capable of Mach 10.2 at an altitude of 275K feet which the Darkstar is in MSFS. Don't know what the statistics are in the film for Darkstar, but not exactly the same aircraft.

the heading bug vanishes after getting to mach 9 for some reason. I had foreflight linked so I was still able to find cape.
120000 feet is for wimps :-) try 275000. Much nicer view to have in flight catering served.

Doesn't work!! Whether I follow this video precisely including when you say after the roll to pull all the way back then im too slow and never get above mach1.5, or i stick to 1.2g on the pull uip and i end up too fast at too low of an altitude which results in the aircraft over stressing...
When you roll back hold climb at about 2 to 4% until speed increases then very slowly edge the nose up as you get faster
Some peeps have received a broken experimental... Jumps around and loses effective control over 40kpm .. as taxiing on rocks with the extra fun of non responsive pitch & roll :(
K... Just discovered.. functionality is granted only on mav challenge.... Outside of mav activities.. they deflate tyres, short the motherboard and sit a rotund ranga on the RHS wing.. if you exceed 39kph
Furthermore.. just threaded ... The flight mode in options needs to be set to modern (thinking unnecessary & odd)
Can I ask perhaps a dumb question? How do you get the "OBJECTIVES" window to appear? This makes the whole thing much easier but I don't see that when I start the challenge.
It should start with objective showing, if not try and select from top toolbar. Check your notification settings in the options menu.
What happens if you try to convert that mach 9+ velocity for altitude? Can it be zoom climbed from FL120?
No, you need fl300 minimum to use scram jets

havin trouble getting to mach 3 ughhhh
After you invert and roll back, make sure speed is more than mach 1.1 then pull up to 10% very slowly, if speed drops off a little lower nose to straight, build speed pulling up slowly again. When you invert don’t drop too low or you can’t build speed

Can someone explain to me the difference between Mach speed and air speed? How come the air speed is so low but the Mach speed is so much higher? Thanks!
Once your over the speed of sound 761.2 the indicator switches to Mach which at Mach 10 is 7,612 mph.
@@robblevins6009 Nope. The speed of sound decreases as altitude increases. Doing 1000 knots at 20,000 feet will be a lesser Mach number than doing 1000 knots at 80,000 feet.

I cant find the base when I drop out the sky. No runway is marked IDK tried it 5 times fml.
Click the small up down arrows on the gps to zoom out…you might be too far off course to see the line and landing location.

Haven't tried it yet as I only stood on the ground so far, but the screen that shows the "satellite view" has a selector, probably for several cam angles. I guess there's one looking forward as well.

Forgot to turn on "objectives". Did the whole flight perfectly, but because I did not ""roll inverted"", the flight did not automatically end when landing. Wasted an hour. Uninstalled the game immediately.

Is it possible to get a medal on this challenge or just a tick? I did it in 33:02 landing on runway 31 instead as I overshot 13, it still classed as complete but only got a tick no lettered medal
