I was in your discord server and I suddenly wasn't when I was in the middle of asking for advise in your questions and help room? I didn't receive a warning or anything? Could you tell me why and let me back in?
As someone who did speech throughout highschool, and my coach had us record and critique ourselves once a week, this is a very useful tool. Personally my biggest hurdle is switching from doing it rehearsed with a memorized speech, to giving that same energy on a whim. I have the voice, I have the energy, I just need to work on being quick in thought now.
"Confidence makes a viewer, a.k.a. you, believe in me, believe a video is worth your time." Confidence insinuate that your mastery of the topic you're discussing is enough for the viewer to stay and listen. Nobody is indeed born confident, you just have to slowly go out there and eventually, you'll get the hang of it. Great video, man!
That 2nd tip was something I started doing about 4 years ago and really helped me to escape my negative mindset at the time - back then everything sucked. It's funny now that I think about it because what I was saying externally and internally became a self-fulfilling prophesy. I wish I could say I'm completely free of those negative thoughts, they do come back from time-to-time but now I don't ponder on them as long. Great tip and video!
Confidence in talking was the biggest change I noticed in viewer retention in my streams. This guys gets it. And thanks for all the vids I put out a video that I edited for once rather than just ripped from a stream or gameplay footage and it’s my best performing RUclips vid. Thanks :)
Heyo! Just wanted to thank you. I started my streaming journey 6 months ago and I watched a ton of your videos to prepare before I started and continued to watch. I just hit 800 followers and average 30 to 50 viewers! I appreciate what you do and keep making great content because you make me a better content creator!
I just started streaming a couple weeks ago and I got my first follower by randomly telling them (I didn’t think anyone was actually watching me and I was just making conversation) that I was a god at the game I was playing and no one is as good as me. It was really funny when they were like “the arrogance is very entertaining and that’s why I followed” and that kind of became a trait I ran with. YOU know what’s best and are the best player in your category. Believe that and everyone else will believe it too.
I've attempted to stream a handful of times now. And always start to get into my own head after about a hour of streaming to nobody. And I know my two biggest issues are (1) I have no confidence in myself and (2) I have no personality. Which is a weird one because I have this big desire to be a content creator, but then I stop to think and can not come up with any good reason someone would watch me.
I’m going to start doing the 10 minute camera trick everyday for a whole month. Thanks Eljay. I want to be able to compare my first video to my 30th video. Great advice!
Ngl i gained confidence over time with just ALWAYS being in front of a camera, I always try to make dumb videos on my phone or i always have my camera on with discord calls with friends or viewers it just helped me grow even more confident. its not necessarily being confident with being in front of a camera but getting used to talking in front of one, that lets you be more of yourself in front of one! edit: I have not watched the video yet so I cant wait to see what you add! edit 2: OH MY GOD THE day 1 CHALLENGE IS AMAZING THAT IS SO SMART, that would have helped me grow in personality in videos and streams so MUCH faster
Just found your channel and I greatly appreciate your content! I am working on getting into content creation and you have some excellent advice keep it up!
Good stuff dude, I'll be sharing this vid in my discord of new creators ... as I have with some of your other vids... its easy to get discouraged and being frustrated. So glad to hear you talk about how we let our insecurities hold us back. Thank you and keep doing this for the creator community.. its greatly appreciated!
Thank you for making this video, I really needed to hear this, because i always have an inner critic when i stream, and that last tip about not listening to the inner critic and focusing on what was good from past streams will really help me moving forward.
I find the more often you go in front of the camera the more confident you can be. I find it’s always best to act is if you consistently have viewers in my case I don’t but I still try to keep on speaking commenting over the game for example. I find the more I do this the easier it becomes if someone drops into chat.
That's a good approach, one I take is to imagine I'm a viewer in my own chat and how I can engage myself to keep things relatable and interesting. You either need to pretend someone is there already or just speak to yourself and it won't matter what the number is. Both get the results long term imo! It's something I've been struggling with but getting there.
I have followed many of your videos while starting streaming. You've helped tremendously! On this video, about the 10 minute vid of yourself. Without pulling inspiration from a game or chat, I have a very hard time filling the gaps. Thinking of new topics is tough for me. On stream I have music or people talking or gaming to fill dead air ya know? The video I took I was just stuck thinking about what to say
I think that the second tip is a really good mindset not just for streaming but I think for life cause there will always be someone better and someone worse than you in life and comparing yourself to others just inhibits your growth as a person but by comparing yourself to your past self you are able to see what mistakes you have made or what thing you yourself are unhappy with and want to work on but thats not saying you cannot compare yourself to other because you are able to pick out things that others do that you don’t do that might help engage your audience as well but the comparison has to be done objectively.
Taking tips from you I feel is elevating my ability to maintain momentum and rely not on motivation, but on dedication. These videos of yours are really a big part of why I'm feeling capable of doing what I'm doing, and starting from the beginning rather than giving up because I'm not where folks who have streamed and uploaded for 10 years are yet. I can see a timeline of events, I know where I'm meant to be at, I know I can get to where I want to be going, and I feel supported and capable of getting back on track when I fall of the proverbial horse. I appreciate that you're simultaneously a quick start-up guide resource, and a place to keep coming back to so I can get more done and to the next step. Seriously dude, thank you. I'm finally adding my 20 minute review-to-recording (10 min each) sessions to my daily check list for content tasks. I trust you and I'm going to show myself that there's nothing to be afraid of in watching myself grow. Once more, thank you, Eljay.
This is a great video for developing a key skill. One thing I try to do is imagine I'm a viewer that just landed on my channel/videos and how I could possibly entertain and engage myself as someone who finds my sort of niche interesting. Stepping out of your own shoes and reflecting is a real part of the journey that can't be skipped! That's how you can connect faster with your audience and create more engagement while growing.

I appreciate your time & energy & want to say congratulations on your nuptials 🙏🎉💖
Watching this video just gave me a bit of an anxiety spike. Like, my heart started beating faster and my mind went to random buzzes of thoughts just to distract myself from this. I am definitely super judgy about myself, my appearance, and my voice, and it just feels absolutely terrifying to even fathom the THOUGHT of listening to myself. That last part you talked about, about talking down to yourself? Me, everyday, but not for streaming, but for other things that put me in an extremely emotional state. Ok I'm just ranting at this point, BUT, I'm wondering, how do you even get things to talk about in general? I'm kinda stuck at home and don't really know what I'd even talk about for 10 minutes straight.
That’s the point of the entire exercise, you just start recording and start talking, say words, what comes to mind, your day, anything. As I say in the video, it gets instantly easier as you go.
When it comes to the 10-min recording yourself practice, would you say that the biggest focus is on continously speaking or making it entertaining? I.e should I do a 5 second pause to breathe then continue, or try to really just keep going like crazy? Edit: Great video! I do love your work
he said this on a podcast..I am paraphrasing but he said just do 10 min continuous speaking and no editing allowed and watch the entire 10 mins 24 hours later.
You want to pay attention at how engaged you feel each time you watch the recordings. If there's a lot of silence, then you need to reduce it by speaking more, if you feel bored, then now you have to try to be more entertaining, and so on. You need to get to a point you can honestly think "oh, I like this, this feels natural, confident, etc" Better late than never 😅

Thank, this helps me a lot! One question, you mentioned how it is bad to constantly change games, is it ok to alternate between streams? For example, I alternate between Minecraft and Halo.
I think it could be neat to make it adapt to your schedule! For example, let's say you stream 4 days out of 7, you can put uhh.. 2 days Minecraft, and 2 days Halo, you can alternate them like a MC-MC H-H, or MC-H MC-H!

Thank you for this. 💖 Confidence is the main thing I struggle with. I'll try some of this out, though dealing with an irrational fear makes things more difficult. EDIT: I have have renewed interest in trying this out again.
repetition is key... i had terrible stagefright... and i just forced myself to do short videos and posted them on youtube... they dont have to be long. you just have to break through that mental barrier to switch on the camera. make a short 30 sec video doing whatever. it doesent matter what. do it 70 days in a row and your stagefright will be gone.
@@jstefa2 thank you. My problem isn't simply stage fright, unfortunately, though. I have an irrational fear of anything like a telephone. 😱😅 I did back drive-thru for McDonald's for years and I still have trouble. 😫 I'm going to try these out, though. 💖
@@kymelatejasi you get rid of any fear by facing it... its horrible the first time and trivial the 100th time. keep in mind that the fear will go away if you keep doing it. that will give you the courage!

"Don't compare yourself to others", eh? Ahahah... aaah. I've been doing that lately, and you're right, it's not healthy. It's easy to look at the people you admire that do cool things and come away with "I'll never do that" rather than the much more constructive "I WANT to do that".
I have zero confidence always have, I know nobody watches me for me. I feel like they watch me to laugh at me. Having other creators make videos on me in the past slandering me have lead to death threats and harassment. I'm anxious a lot, my matches are all crap and nobody comes in to see me. After a few years of streaming and committing to it with what limited resources I have, I just can't see any hope in growing or being liked by people. I don't know what to do
okay, I knew about it and I still hadn't done it.. so I paused the video and finally did it; I recorded myself for 10mins and we'll see how it went tomorrow....... 🙃
Me? Learn to be confident? Do you really think that's possible? Let's find out! >:3 Oh this first tip is shocking. I just realized my headmate does that every time he works out on the heavy bag, but me? Am I recording my chatter in the car on the way to work? Nope! Looks like I need to start. Or at least, start doing the voice exercises so I can start to like my own voice! And it's tempting to not do it, because my headmate needs his own voice at work since he's a cashier, but how will we ever transition away from a life of public service to a life of public speaking? I don't want to be a writer forever!

It likely won’t harm your growth or bother anyone, you got this :)
i am not new but I liked the tips you give in the video.
Since I can not say the last thing, I will say my content is not my best. I am trying to better improve as I go and I know it will take a long time. Thank you for the videos.
Awesome video 👍 stream scheme I think I need more confidence in being a content creator
I just recorded my first 10 minute video. It was super uncomfortable, i think i spent half the time talking about the challenge but atleast i did it 😅
Thank you for this.
I'm going to try these out, though. 💖
@@kymelatejasi you get rid of any fear by facing it... its horrible the first time and trivial the 100th time. keep in mind that the fear will go away if you keep doing it. that will give you the courage!
@@jstefa2 sounds like it would, but as I said, I did it for years and it still didn't go away. 😕
@@kymelatejasi do it every day. pick a time and make it a habit. and before you do it... say it in your head i am facing my fear and i will enjoy it and do it. be intentional about it. you wont even know when its gone. and try and enjoy it.
"Don't compare yourself to others", eh? Ahahah... aaah. I've been doing that lately, and you're right, it's not healthy. It's easy to look at the people you admire that do cool things and come away with "I'll never do that" rather than the much more constructive "I WANT to do that".
as horse riding coach i have to talk all the time when teaching so I'm sure this skill transfers to twitch??
I took what I learned from switching to online teaching and transferred those skills to Twitch. You can definitely transfer those skills to Twitch.
@@adrienschadeck5594 your talking to a audience when coaching you still have keep the client entertained when teaching them!
I don't know what to do
Public speaking is awesome
I was so expecting the Danny DeVito cut out to like give you a thumbs up during that section, OMG
i hear nothing but facts
This video made me realize how much I hate myself. Thanks a lot. You're the best.
Hey bro can you explain what is happening in this scene here 5:36 😂😂
I haven’t ever heard that advice from any streamer…give yourself a stranger. 😂
Omg I though I was the only one own picked up on that lmao
Is that peanut butter? Delicious 😋
I’ve heard the tip before
do theatre in school kids, you'll thank me
- ex Theatre Kid
…or if you compared your mustache to Harris Heller’s glorious vacation stache 😉
Challenge accepted 😎 😏
okay, I knew about it and I still hadn't done it.. so I paused the video and finally did it; I recorded myself for 10mins and we'll see how it went tomorrow....... 🙃
I will start doing that talking to camera 10 minutes. Thank yoou for all hellp.
Did you really just say give yourself the stranger?! WTH? Lmao
Drink a glass of whiskey and you instantly gain confidence. *hides*
Me? Learn to be confident? Do you really think that's possible? Let's find out! >:3
Oh this first tip is shocking.
I have zero viewers because I am so great I scare them off.
Hi! Can i ask you something? Its about the donations. If i use paypal(legacy) do i still need an business account to not show my info (phone number and others)
Yes.
I actually don’t look anyone else in my Followerrange (low) so I don’t even know how the others are doing
