I'm in 3D for almost 3 years now and I think I needed to study this topic at least a year or two ago! But sadly, there was nobody to tell me about it. Thanks for your tutorials! Very helpful
Hey Abe, I've been watching your videos for a few years now and I just have to say that you have really been a huge inspiration to me. Keep up the great work man, you're making a huge difference for the people who are learning from you.
the comedic pause the moment the camera cut saying maya has crashed is perfect 😂 i was curious at how the textures would be applied if the textures of certain meshes were spread out across udims and the mari udim thing pretty much answered my question. thanks for teaching this !
i have been struggling with this when i imported them back in maya they were all over the place but i didn't know the fix was this easy thank you so much keep it up
Thank you so much, hands down you are the best teacher Ive found out there, everything was so well explained that I will not forget what UDIMS are, I will definetly buy your premium courses.
Abraham Leal, I would love for you to teach us or show us a tutorial on how to create a Borderlands 3 style texturing! It's a very unique style for game art.
@@Marco-tp6zc my bad, i didnt clarify , the pdf is avalaible for free online, the discord contains my own pdfs, models and resources for some of the other videos, as well as our community. sorry for the confusion
@@abiyyupanggalih854 yes you can totally have different resolutions but make sure to always check your texel density to have a consistent level of detail across your elements
Abe your videos are amazing you've done a great job at explaining and showing how its done! One quick thing, you were running out of video memory because you were also recording a video.
One thing, instead of using one material to bring to substance i separate the object intro different materials, (one material per tile) is that a bad way to work? It's best having on substance only one material with all udims inside of It??
One of the purposes of udims is save time in the setup of materials so ideally you want 1 material per object and then multiple UDIMs in that material. Otherwise you will need to connect a lot of stuff

Thank you Streamer for your work. I apologize for my English in advance. I would like to clarify one question: how relevant is this topic for the gaming industry? Let's not take into account the creation of characters and all organics.
Yes they can be used however you need to be mindful on when to use them due to Performance issues. I will record a video soon about how to use them inside of Unreal
Hi Sir. Just wanna know. Is it fine to use UDIM if working on realistic game asset for portfolio in order to get better texture resolution and quality.
normally no, udims can be used in games but they are heavy, so for performance sake it might be better to showcase your textures more traditionall, but you can definitely use 4k maps for youe portfolio assets.
Hey, I got a bit confused, you said you're using 16 tiles of 2K maps, and that would be like using an 8k map? is that it? Because in my mind using 4 tiles of 2k would be like an 8k map
@@gabrielfranco3558 Hey my friend! yeah i meant file size, an 8k texure is equal to 16 2k tiles, but the size difference, specially to open and read them, is quite big.
Good tutorial. However maya layout tool unable to maintain same texel density across UDIM. So plugin like Malcolm tool or Polyraven UV are very handy for UDIM workflow. Hope Autodesk will make improvement for maya uv tool.
Hi a have a question , could you help me to solved please?! I will be very grateful! If you want to texturize a complete model , you can pack the entire model in one UDIM and put on the map size , something like 16K ínstead of having a lot of udims with 4K for example? thank you for reading me
Excellent question. The issue with a 16k texture is that It is huge! So from a performance standpoint it is easiert to read 4 4k textures than it is to read 1 16k texture. Even tho they have the same amount of texture space
Well, is true in that kind of cases, but is way better working with Mari, dont have any problem with a lot of udims, the software born with that pipeline in mind.
