- Hi guys! Here I tested what will happen if you run explorers from Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, Whistler(XP Beta), XP, Vista, 7 and 8.1 on (btw yea I had try that on my real PC) Windows 10 1511!

So that mean I made an Update for this video which you can watch more than that one:
(It is by 3 Parts because of the Different Architecture like 16, 32 and 64-bit etc, they are not THE SAME and each that makes an unique thing I will experiment with it!)

Part 4 ("Modifing Explorer to they run on Windows 11!"): Canceled! (reason: I spend alot of time on it, I record bunch of Gigs on my Hard drive where I fail and fail, tried replacing some DLLs that the explorer need to run (netshell.dll etc.) and it only crashes the VM and I must reinstall it over and over.. I hope that one person will do that instead, but I am not so advancement that I knew about the explorers everything :( )

How do you get those explorers and how to get them to myself?
(This question ask me already 88 people on my comments, so that I will not replying the same thing here.. well I put Tutorial here)
I DIDN'T get those explorers from websites, friends idk.. because why I even do that? If I have windows installations (*.iso files) and know where they are in those (someone sayed that this is fake and windows files aren't in ISO files.. that comment was been removed by the user itself, if I answered him that EVERY windows media in. MUST HAVE some files to install.. Microsoft is lazy to put just an encripted code and if it start to install, it will NOT creating the files from its Source code (logic, that is why we didn't have Vista, 7.. Source codes lol), It will only extract those files and set up the NTFS and registry, to it ran propertly.)

So, how to get those? (This is method for Vista, 7, 8.1, 10 and 11)
1.If you have an ISO media file (If not, install him, etc. from malwarewatch.org)
Then download 7-Zip (or if you have WinRAR or WinZip, it work too)
2.Now go to the ISO medium file, right click and select Open With
3.There set the Open With to 7-Zip (or winrar whatever), 7-Zip u find here: C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7zFM.exe
4.Then click Open and it must pop-up the files what are on that ISO file
5.There go to "sources" and find a file called "install.wim" or if it will be not, then "install.esd"
6.Right click on that file and select "Open Inside" and it will pop-up a window for waiting..
7.Now it should be there already windows files (Windows, Program Files..), but IF IT DIDN'T, u must see some nunbers, those num. are Editions, what that ISO have, so if you didn't what edition it is, I recommend u to check on Virtual Machine to run that ISO, And how they are sorted on VM, by that are also the editions! So select the edition u want copy the exp. from..
8.Go there to Windows folder and there we go, now right click on that explorer and select "Copy To", sel. the folder where u want him to extract and enjoy!
Now 95 to XP
1.Do the same way as in Vista+ method, to Step 4.
2.Go to folder "i368" and find "EXPLORER.EX_"
3.Right click, select Open Inside
4.There on that exp. click on "Copy To" and u have it.

From this idea I've been inspirated by Endermanch, he only made a video (link I can't find.. sorry) what will happen if you ran Vista's and XP's exp. on Windows 7 (he also tries LogonUIs), but not in Windows 10, so I think it is my original video by this!

The answer is Windows 11 is a shell on top of Windows 10 that’s why it works you can registry hack it too
that.. will be mystery.. but i think that microsoft doesn't want to do make a new windows.. idk you must say ms you it self ;D

I love how the icons and the desktop fallback color are pulled from each explorer you tried
For the older explorers there are 2 reasons they didn't work,
Reason 1: The Windows 95/98/ME explorers are for their 9x kernel, whereas modern Windows is built on NT
Reason 2: Older versions of Windows by default would place you in session 0 where other apps ran, but now in newer versions (post XP) you are in session 1 and after Windows 10, session 0 is for the system only and can't be accessed by the user

I doo xdd, the explorers had originally runned of specific location in my second drive, here I was also wonder that it will work normally, but that I cutted out.. and use the another explorer that where on the location

The reason old explorers don't work on Windows 10 is because Windows OS's used to be based on MS-DOS. Windows XP is no longer based on MS-DOS so Windows 10 is compatible with Windows XP explores up to Windows 10.

@@krr1751 NT is based on MS-DOS so it should not work. But you can use a Windows 10 Explorer on Windows 11.
@@RalphyTheCoyote yeaa, that I know, but with the Windows 10 and 11 it is different, the Win.11 is already the win.10 one, but only with some regedit tweaks and UWP functions, and only if you replace them, it will fail to run the tweaks, and then the win. will run the basics of the explorer
And NT is'nt based on MS-DOS, it is completly different File system, like MS-DOS uses COMMAND.COM file, so then NewTechnology uses a Hidden folder called "[SYSTEM]", amd there is for example Logfile.sys or etc, I don't remember that all, but for the drivers, and basicly for working, it uses this folder
the operating systems that have WinNT as the kernel are:
Windows NT (mainly server systems)
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows Vista
Windows 7
Windows 8.x
Windows 10
Windows 11
the betas from these systems (Whistler, Longhorn etc) should also work.

You should have tried replacing the actual Windows 10 explorer.exe with the older ones. Maybe if you did that then the Windows 7 and 8 explorers would work as the shell. However surprized that Windows XP's explorer even works on Windows 10. I was however expecting Windows 7 and 8's explorer to partially function tho.

I think that the explorer from 9x was based off MS-DOS and Whistler's had to get some files from the drive, but the XP one is the first one with NT that can work alone.

They've probably changed something with 7's explorer, and since microsoft just builds on top of old windows, the error will persist on 8 and 8.1's explorer.

most DoS apps run perfectly on windows 8/8.1.
edit: you should run these programs on a VM (virtual machine) instead of your real PC, as this can really harm it because you are attempting to run DoS programs on a kernel that can not run DoS programs, even in compatibility mode.

That screen is always in Windows 10. To get is simple, just attempt to kill a none responding task in task manager and there you go!
Windows explorers need some other files to work such as dll and so on, and it's better if they are directly in Windows folder! (so they have the optimal configuration to hope to work, because they are in the same root than on the old windows and they have access to the most of files they may need!)

Some explorers wont work due to the fact that they werent made to work on the Windows NT kernel
it's actually amazing Windows XP explorer works at all considering it was made for a much older NT version
For working this without shell - you need to kill standart process "explorer" and then run other explorers
And many explorers not running because there no have old files from old Windows
thats right.. i give you an easter egg on my video from where i runned the explorer xdd
everything from before xp was MS-DOS based while xp and onwards were NT based so thats why they didnt run at all, try the actual NT series and see if they work

I think you confused an explorer with another explorer with Windows 8.1, unless you can provide evidence that it's the right files.
File Explorer is the file I think that got opened. Not the gui taskbar explorer.
I know, and I even ran him in a specific folder with own his windows files, but the taskbar(on win 11 exp. it isn't anymore but) win 9x - win 10(main and to last version 1809), the taskbar is FULLY explorer.exe, and then Windows 11 came out, and microsoft was lazy to modify the code of the explorer, so then he add some UWP Patch ONLY, with program "sihost.exe" and "ApplicationFrameHost.exe", and yes, if they're be not in the windows(in 11 still we are), well, the taskbar will be broken and buggy.. and to fix this, just do some registry stuff, to enable again the windows 10 gui, that are hidden in the explorer..
so no, these explorers I used, do his shell only by his self, but for compatibillity, I still ran them on the external folder.

I once managed to run Windows 7 build 6801's explorer in Windows 10 build 1703 (way back in 2017), and the start menu and desktop didn't work, but I got XP/Vista style open programs in taskbar and a Windows 7 style system tray menu (but the "Customize" button didn't work"). I tried so in Windows 11 also, but then explorer crashes

And no, Win7 and above of course they didn't start in shell mode... it needs to be registered as shell in the Registry first! HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell and change the path to the other Explorer then run userinit otherwise it will run the same Win10 explorer that ran in the video

Some start buttons dont work because of the updated start menu, so some of the explorers get confused and dont open the start menu (i think), also, immediately make sure that you fix any corrupted file.
ik.. this was only a test, and the explorers aren't downloaded from the internet.. it was grabed from iso files, so, the explorers are working fine
Tip: use a 32 bit vm to run windows 95-2000 explorer. It works

It's not possible because newer versions of Windows Explorers will guaranteed use newer APIs, because Microsoft wants to show off their new features through Windows Explorer. And the older versions would simply make it crash because it is calling an API that doesn't exist
Can you do old windows themes in new windows next? I believe they are incomptible so you have to copy thr textures using something like mssyteseditor and then you must patch them for them to work using SecureUxThemePatcher

how did you get the xp compatibility mode for the xp explorer? the options are missing for me
I run him in my extracted windows xp directory instead from desktop, but xp compatibillity in windows 10/11 are there normally, sometimes it detect automaticly or go to properties of that explorer and there u get compatibillity settings of that file. I showed in this video but yeah.. it's Czech ik, my stupid old KRR did that ._. :(

@@BlueSpades7 bruh, never mind, češtinu mi zase zničilo pc, když jsem si ji stáhnul v catalog.update.microsoft.com, a ještě si udělal restore point, tak mi ta angličtina zničila aktivaci windowsu, a nemohl jsem ho zase aktivovat(ani kupodivu aktivátor nefungoval, zkoušel jsem KMSPico a pak ještě Microsoft Toolkit, ale nic nefungovalo), tak jsem se pokoušel najít ten product key ve windowsu itself, ale nenašel žádnej, a asi taky vím proč to nešlo..
tím jak mám blocknutý VŠECHNY IP v Firewallu od microsoftu, tak možná mezi nima byla i IP od serveru kde jsou uložený aktivační klíče, a tím mě napadlo vypnout firewall, alee.. taky to nešlo.. tak to bych musel přeinstalovat celej windows..
ale to neudělám, když už 2 ROKY necelý, si hraju s nastavením, windows souborama, gpeditem, servicem.msc apod. aby moje osobní informace nikdo neviděl, kromě mě, a komu to já určim.. A docela se mi to daří, když už tím jsem i rozbil TLauncher(a zkutečně jsem potvrdil že je virus:D), a některý programy se ani nespustí, tak ty co se nespustí, jsem nahradil za moje(ano, naprogramoval jsem moje programy ve visualbasic kódu), jako např. explorer.exe.. a zatim všechny moje UWP aplikace jsem neřešil, protože stejně už o nich vím, že microsoft o nich sbírá data sám od sebe xdd
tak jo.. vím že to je hrozný.. mít českej windows zatim co točim anglický videa, Tak ano.. ale zase je to snad lepší, než aby to byla ruština, japonština nebo čínština, tomu už trochu pochopim, ale např. čeština, němčina, cojá vím, slovenština a všechny tyto jazyky co mají stejný symboli(A je jako šipka nahoru "A" apod.), tak třeba napůl si můžou představit, co tam asi bude napsaný..
nevím jak vy.. ale já když třeba sleduji taky nějaký videa podobný jako ty moje, Endermana atd. od jiných Malých youtuberů o windows kontentu, tak mě třeba nevadí že používají windows ve španělštině, italštině.. idk ale prostě tohle si dokážu představit.. tak asi pardon.. že si ty videa dělám trochu i podle sebe no 😕
ale tak budu se fakt snažit teda, aby jste to pochopili, I KDYŽ JE TAM TA Z**RVENÁ ČEŠTINA, aby jste na to jako vy mohli koukat;D

oh thats good question, well.. all this explorers are 32-bit, and my pc have windows for 64-bit, yea i think that it make big difference
windows has an automatic 32-bit mode on 64-bit systems so that ain’t a problem
