    Being soaping for 11yrs now and I'm a hoarder for all types of soap molds. To mix my ingredients, I use stainless steel as well as glass or plastic containers to make my soaps, I think is a matter of preference and choice. When soap was first made it didn't have an exact container, measures, molds or such to be made it anyways was made in the nature by the nature... Soaping community has change a lot with the years and a lot of "haters" has emerge from it who think that they know it all just by watching yt videos and not doing a proper research in history and without respecting other soapers choice, preference or opinions. I stop uploading videos do to that. But I'm planning to come back soon to the yt community. Love your channel and your sincerity. This channel is one of my favorite to watch, Keep up the good work!!!

    After searching around, and I know it's a bit expensive..., I decided I loved the form factor of the Nurture Soap 4.5lb tall and skinny mold. 11" long x 2.5" wide x 4.5" tall. The bars fit in my palm so nicely!
    But overall I liked this video. It was really interesting! Seeing a long term professional's recommendations are interesting. I don't need most of the basics any longer. But as my basics break down... =D
    Good luck with the wallpaper! Gotta admit when you said you let your kidlet pick the paper I cringed a bit. When you mentioned mural I audibly oofed. Lol. At the mention of 18' wall I was a tad jealous! One day... but yes! To the RUclipss!

I love my 2.75 x 2.75 x 1, but finding printable boxes was a nightmare. So I have twin Cricuts to keep up with boxes.

      So the mold he made holds between 50-65oz, depending on how tall you want your bars to be. Makes 12 bars…kinda. I highly recommend if you make your own molds to add an extra 1/4 to 1/2” to account for the cutoffs.

    Uh oh; what did I miss about the pyrex hate? (I'm so behind on your videos, but slowly catching up!) I love glassware for everything and even have some really old Pyrex from grandma. But Pyrex isn't lab quality any more; when the company was sold in 1998 they stopped using borosilicate glass. I've had 2 Pyrex pitchers bust when making soap (of the new formula, not the original), so I begrudgingly switched to plastic. But them....I've had the new Pyrex baking dishes also break - like last Thanksgiving's apple pie! Cooling on the rack; heard a pop and the whole rim cracked deeply all the way around! I'm so glad you're doing year 2; that's why I got behind....I didn't want year 1 to end so stopped watching them!

      When I was a teenager, I made some brownies in an old glass Pyrex pan my mom had had forever. I took them out of the oven and set them on the glass cooktop like I always had and the pan literally exploded and there were little chunks of glass everywhere 😳 it was the only time I’ve ever seen that happen and I’m thirty now.

      Everything breaks down and comes with its own set of risks. For glass bakeware, Pyrex, etc - the key is to make sure to inspect your pieces before use. The strength of tempered glass is legit and hard to break, but if there’s a chip or if you hit it on the edge, it can shatter. Personally I’ve never had a glass container of any type shatter, but I did manage to break a tempered glass shelf just by sliding it in to the back of my suv just the wrong way. I never did get all that glass out. 😂

    • @karijaneify
      @karijaneify 3 года назад

      @@MrsSoapAndClay Ooohh! Good thing that was tempered so you didn't have the sharp edges in your car! You gotten my curiosity up, so I did a little reading, although couldn't find anything about etching except the artistic kind. No idea where this info about lye etching glass came from unless it was in laboratories where they use stronger lye solutions for long periods of time?
      But did learn that inspecting them will catch the visible flaws, but not the microscopic ones. Every little bump, ding, or near-break weakens the structure of the glass to some degree - until is meets the straw that breaks the camel's back and the glass just completely breaks. It's the same physics that deems replacing your bike helmet when it's suffered a drop or crash. So, this makes me think that even a brand new glass/pyrex item could already be compromised....imagine the things that happen at Target. I think this could explain our mishaps! But it's so odd because a typical drinking glass (not tempered glass) can get bumped and dinged for years before it breaks. Weird. Who knows? But, I'll still choose the plastic containers for soaping.
      For anyone interested, go read the care and use instructions on Pyrex's website about your baking dishes. Seems like sudden temperature changes; including putting a hot dish on a cold surface, filling cold container with hot water are what they're concerned about.

    I have three of those Amazon/Ebay molds. I like them but quality is not consistent. In two of them the box is not tall enough for the silicone insert. The silicone would bow over the box at the very top. In the third, the box was a tad too long. There would be a bulge at one end of the soap loaf. Also, I have the Amazon/Ebay version of the Brambleberry mold but it's 8 inches. It bows in the middle when filled to the top.
    Great video. When I figure out what shape works best for me, I will get the hubby to build me some better ones.
