  • History: The form Urashi no Kun was taught to Shimabuku by his kobudō instructor, Shinken Taira. Taira is the founder of the Ryūkyū Kobudō Hozon Shinkokai, whose goal is the preservation of Okinawa's weapons forms.
    Our class teaches the hooking strikes to the head instead of the mid section, which is more common among other Isshinryu schools.

    Pretty similar to how I learned it. My instructor studied under Shimabuku in the late 1950's.

    Similar to how I learned it. My lineage is from Don Nagle>Dale Jenkins>Ben Lapinski. Some strikes are different but pretty much the same kata.

      @@markceaser8073 Our class put more focus on head strikes vs body strikes. I’ve noticed others performing this kata with predominantly body strikes.
