@@scarfacemmm first of all, this book is about helping you changing by yourself, it’s not about how you utilize whatever the scenarios he input, and you even haven’t finished the book. If you really get what he’s trying to convey, you wouldn’t have this problem
This book is incredible and should be a standard for anyone suffering from OCD and Pure OCD. It has worked for many people we know. Great book Mark, and fantastic interview.
Suffer better..........That is it for me. Pain = pain, grief is grief, missing=missing, business = hard work. Life has 2 sides, problems have 2 sides, success has 2 sides of it. Lewis just acknowledges this. The meaning of the hurtful lesson (s) : What can I learn from this ? Lewis gets better, and better. Mark just go back ! and making some music, give yourself this present. The experience of living your true potential........Thanks.
product of our environment is strong. And being like our parents comes from genetics. I'm Not a specialist but have spent most of my life trying to not to be like one of my parents as far as the negative stuff I see that parent does. We have mental health issues in my family and Im always trying to figure out what not to be like.
3 minutes in and I can't wait to watch the whole thing. One of my favourite books, I plan on making a video reviewing that book. Always get good vibes after watching your videos!
Interesting discussion. It's weird how the word 'like' is used as every second word in a sentence/statement these days. It's surpassing age barriers. I noticed a couple of things seemed drawn from Big Magic but I guess the more motivation out there in the universe the better. Nothing is original after all. I think most self help is impossible to be absorbed and applied but if you can draw a motivational vibe from it then it has done some good.
Hey Lewis, long time listener but never commented on any of your work. Just wanted to reach out and say I really appreciate all the content you put out, the story you tell, and everything you do. Thank you, thank you thank you!
The dream... That was me and becoming a doctor back in college. It sounded good and I said it for YEARS in my childhood but I wasn't taking the MCAT or even studying... fact is I sucked at sciences lol Great interview!
Lewis, This interview is life changing. Iv been stuck in the mode of perfectionism and people pleasing. Now I have something different to meditate on to see what I really want. Thank you!
Great interview, my only criticism is at the beginning the interviewer says the way to end suffering is to stop being self obsessed, but no enquiry goes into that point, because of course easier said than done..
Thank you so much Lewis for the inspiration and many different fronts. Mark, I'm looking forward to upgrading my problems. I am enjoying the process. Much obliged, ~Roberto
Great, priceless talk! I just finished reading his book and that brought me here (: Truly the BEST book I've read this year. Thank you, Mark! You're so honest, real, hilarious and I like that you don't try too hard. You talk like you write and write like you talk, which is definitely a very good thing!
I'm not a housewife, not even a parent, but I can't believe that Lewis thinks that "housewives" have no impact. Parents have tremendous impact, whether they also work outside of their house or not.
Ellen Eastwood homemaking is a natural calling for most women and if done right then it betters the society by creating good character men and women. Today, society sucks because there was no mother to work on their character or should i say no good mother or father to model oneself after. Home is the foundation of society and good homemakers, wives and mothers is what the society needs today and not more gadgets to numb our brains and pollute the earth.
Hey Lewis, I have enjoyed many of your interviews recently and they have given me amazing insights but I have to say that this one was just mind blowing! Outstanding down to earth talk between two amazing men. Congrats to both of you and thank you so much for sharing it. Beijos from Brazil!
Lewis, I was amused when you read out the title. I listened to so many of your podcasts and never heard you swear before :) (You don't even say "Oh my God"). Anyways, keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!
The question "What is the next step?" is the reason why there shouldn't be pressure. The next step (in my opinion) could go to the left or right... not only up. One could add products (merchandise, courses) or go in a different direction with the next Book (children's picture book and stuff). Having reached that level is a great fundament for failure I guess :) Downloaded the Audiobook... Thank you for that.
I've been following Mark's blog for some months now and I have to say that the guy has great articles, love it. Well done Lewis! Any chance to have Tucker Max on the show ? Would be great
yuuuusssssss. gold. i had this book in my hand yesterday at Barnes and Nobel but couldn't decide what books to buy. concider me convinced. great interview. time to dip into audio books for my cruising around the islands 🚘🏝💯
Hey. I would recommend a book called "the confidence gap". Its similar to "subleArtofNotGivingAfuck" but it goes more in depth and its scientific on how to live a better life. But it might not be as entertaining as marks book. Its based on Acceptance and Commitment therapy
Agreed! For some reason tho Gary V has always seemed genuine and motivational to me, but I group Grant Cardone with the scammy guys selling a fake lifestyle. Idk if it’s just me though lol
I loved this interview! Good Job, Lewis!- I would love to see Bethenny Frankel on here. She has insight into the business world and lots of life lessons. Just a suggestion! Love your work!
It's a great book. I just started it. I always want to find more about any author that pushes any sort of life advice and see if they practice what they preach. For the most part, Mark seems very authentic so that is relieving. I wouldn't want to continue a book about environmentalism and find out the author flew first class everywhere. I mean, a little deviation is normal and expected since it's a little reassuring to know we are all fucked up people and will constantly fuck up. The only thing I can say about not giving a fuck is that Mark actually did give a fuck about music (and most likely still does) but maybe he was and still is too scared to stop writing and commit everything to making music. He craves that security of being a good writer and making money from it so he will likely never give it up. And of course now that he has notoriety, it's difficult to have to give that up in order to switch gears and do what you want. I'll argue that if you don't give a fuck about money (you shouldn't past a certain point since it has diminishing returns obviously) then you'll give up what you think you need to do in order to do what you want to do, even if you suck at it. I don't buy this "do what you're good at" all the time. We all suck at everything until we improve at it. Of course the better you are at something the more you're going to enjoy it. But you don't "get good" until you invest copious amounts of time. I know it sounds a bit like I'm just looking for a flaw to shout "a-ha!" but it's really not that. I get that once you're super successful at something it becomes hard to walk away from it. But is that truly not giving a fuck? Constantly challenge what you think is worthwhile and how much you actually need out of this world in order to find what it is you truly enjoy. Put another way, there's no point in tirelessly trying to seek another book success which is what the book would adamantly argue against. He seems very concerned about "good ideas" and dismissing "bad" ones. I don't know, there's a little contradiction there. I know the book is a "guiding light" and nothing that anyone can absolutely adhere to, but I do think Mark is falling victim to trying to define himself. Overall, great book with some very good actionable advice.
Loved this interview. One of the most powerful things I took away from this is that Mark really does seem to give a fuck which may be why he is struggling to write his next book. Looking at his eyes, I see deep sadness. I may be way wrong but I think there is a lot more brewing in his mind.
Can someone please explain to me that on page 139 when he says “I say don’t find yourself. I say never know who you are. Because that’s what keeps you striving and discovering.” I don’t get it??? Help please!!
Let me explain you, it's a late reply though ! If you think that you're an introvert , you will define yourself by thinking that speaking with crowd is impossible to you. Now you've got an opportunity to present your project to new people ,let's say you need to give a speech about your project to a large group of people . Now you have two options, one is to recognise the opportunity and work against your fear of public speaking and the second is to avoid the opportunity by justifying yourself that you're an introvert. What would you do ? Both choices have its own set of problems , neither the options are problem less nor avoidable . We cannot get rid of problems rather than we can choose better problems. If you don't define yourself as an introvert then you'll choose to give a speech and probably you will get a pay raise along with new responsibilities (problems). When you choose the second option by defining yourself ( introvert ) then you will worry about missing an opportunity with your former salary . So it's not about who you are, it's about what you choose . Hope it helps♥️
Man, the interviewer, Lewis, is the sweetest, kindest, most genuine seeming person. Not hiding anything, that is refreshing
Mark Manson's "The subtle art of not giving a fck" is one of the best books I have ever read. No exaggeration! 👍👍👍
Me too.

Mark is so raw and real. So down to earth. I really appreciate his suggestions. Thank you!
Mark & Lewis at one table is such an inspirational uplift! Thx for putting that out.

A different kind of motivation, especially about hating the work. Very true.

How about the Panda :) use the panda for a comic series, where you take very prominent problems and let the Panda "solve" them.

What if you simply don't know what do you enjoy in your life? Writing or painting, I don't enjoy. Strange what if you really do enjoy nothing.
