Just thought I'd try some prop making, thank you for all the support! I'd love to do more like this in the future sometime, so if you have any ideas hmu.
I feel like the production quality of your chanel keeps growing and growing man. I absolutely love this angry boys, and your big ass steampunk light bulb! Your workshop is looking more and more like that of a wizards lol
Hey Miscast, I reckon you'd make a great book case diorama alleyway thing, you know the ones I'm talking about - the miniature alleyway inbetween your books. Love to see your spin on that. Bonus points for goblins.
In case that you want to make a few more mandrakes how about some with worms or bites taken out of them. As for other sculpting ideas maybe a homuculus in a flask maybe with some alchemical apparatuses or a rat King would be disgusting but also cool and if you managed to turn it into a mini like the cultist it could make an interesting addition to the Nurgel army. A undead trilobite could be cool Fossilies of ancient marine life reanimated by a necromancer to swarm his foes a bit like the scarab swarms of the necrons.
This is one of the best places on the Internet. Just such a good vibe, incredible creativity and such a high production quality to tie it all together. I'd watch you create anything as long as you were passionate about it. I also feel like this is a sculpting project that's something I could reasonably try as a first step into clay sculpting. You break down the steps so well. Keep doing your thing man, this is great.
We’ve got channels like this highlighting their exceptional talent and hard work getting under 30k views and then we have channels with 5 minute videos speaking ill of people hitting 1 Mil. So sad. I subscribed. Your work is beautiful.
I'll be honest, I had seen this video title and thought,"This is a one-time prop for any game, why would you etc. etc." And then I remembered: oh, right- you can just make something because it's fun to make something and because it makes you happy. Thanks, Trent.
So many small touches that really elevated these from 10 to 11. The fake plant weathering, the labels, the actual dirt. It's been amazing seeing your growth as a maker as much as a creator, Trent. Really well done.
These look awesome! I think for people who might be circumspect of using actual dirt, I recommend coarse grinding some coffee and adding some random bits of stuff in it. From up close it'll smell like coffee, but hey, it works!
To get your mandrakes to grow, you need to water them and make sure that their roots are deeply embedded in the terf. Those are cracking sculpts, and the detail on the pots is really cool. I like how you used the sculpey to colour the pieces. Your joy with your creations is so infectious. 🤗
Oh my gosh, the scullery iii in the box takes me back. I used to spend hours upon hours stacked upon even more hours working with that stuff making all kinds of tiny figurines long before I ever found out that miniatures even existed. Good days.
Not gonna comment on the mandrakes themselves, but man, the energy, the creativity, the emotion you bring in to your work… that is just inspiring! So yeah. Thank you is all that comes to mind. Oh and also, I want a mandrake for my greenhouse!!!
The mandrakes turned out so darn cute!! And, the improvised tool thing is genuinely good advice - As someone who has used diamond-patterned magic erasers to add texture to dollhouse dry-wall... I can attest that the most interesting textures come from the cheapest/weirdest techniques!
I feel like those plastic lizards and alligators have gone through whole character arcs over the course of your channel. They seem to make cameo appearances in every other video. Keep up the good work, man, I love your content.
Nice! Thank you for this tutorial!!! I love the mandrakes, too. And the garden gnomes. My granddaughter and I love to quote Jim Dale's Audible version of the gnomes yelling, "Get off me! Get off me!" lol
I want to make my own!! Great video, pushing creativity in different directions. Plus this awesome morning shot with the sun rays and your hot coffee smoking was so beautiful.
Loved this prop making episode! I think it'd be cool to see you make your own weird interpretation of some kind of monstrous little fairy (or other strange creature!) in an apothecary jar.
Wow! Those look like I need a dozen of them and thank you insight on how take that shine out of the cheap plastic leaves. I will 100% be using that in the future.
As someone who just experienced this - be cautious when mixing Sculpey III or basic with Super / Sculpey Firm. III and basic Sculpey are a lower quality product. They're softer, cheaper and easier for people to knead if they have problems in their hands but it cracks VERY easily in the oven and pieces break more easily. Mixing them will make the clay far more prone to crack / fall apart in the oven. Which can be gotten around if you're watching for it, but something to be aware of. These came out great! I love the faces and the "weathering" on everything. So nice.
I just went by the sculpey instructions for mixing the clay, which says as long as the mix is thoroughly cooked and the exact temp it'll be ok but I don't have much experience. To colour the clays like I did in this case, I only used about a 1:12 ratio because the colour went a really long way! If if cracks over time I'll update here.
@@Miscast If it came out of the oven without cracking you're probably in the clear. :) It's just something to be aware of - nothing drastic. Like most things in hobby if it works, it works! If it doesn't, we find another way or do something else. If you need tiny claws, teeth, etc. I've found Apoxie (or you may have Milliput more handy) works better than Sculpey as well. You could stake a vampire with Apoxie and it wouldn't crack.
I've been meaning to make little mandrakes for so long and this just makes me even more motivated to actually do them. Absolutely loved this video and these funky little guys!
Awesome video. I feel like I say it every video, but you are such an inspiration. Your approach to sculpting and using what ever you can find is really great. I actually made a miniture fantasy "spaceship" with that approach.
Damn you hit this one out of the park. When people say super sculpey is easy to use though... stuff makes my hands cramp just from trying to soften it. I guess I'm just a rare one.
It can depend on how new it is, if its been on the shelf a while before you bought it in can take a LOT of conditioning to make it soft. The last batch I bought was REALLY easy to work with, but the one before was not. I hear the cool kids use pasta rollers for this reason, I haven't found an old one while thrifting yet though.
Damn, I may have bought an older packet then because this stuff was really hard to condition. May also have to look out for a pasta roller while thrifting too. Cheers for the reply.
12:54 or just use a satin or mat finish varnish for plastic. The Citadel range is pretty reliable. Your sanding technique works well enough on its own too and sells the realism fair enough. 15:14 a bit more spendy than garden dirt but less hectic than baking out biologicals is to get some course turf from a company like Geek Gaming Scenics or Woodland Scenics they make a light greenish color, and drop some brown paint in it. Give it a swirl, throw in your glue and presto-plasto: faux dirt. For the fine stuff, just use a bit of fine sand with the same paint and glue thinned down with IPA. To vary the texture of the 'dirt' mix in a bit of sand when you add in your PVA.
Sorry I wasn't clearer, I use the the spray adhesive because it has body to it, it makes a very fine dust over the leaves, rather than just dull down the shine, it creates texture. I experimented with varnishes as well, but the spray adhesive made the leaves look more natural imo. Yeah that sounds like a good dirt alternative! In the previous video I used coarse saw dust paint and sand and I liked the results of that as well. Thanks for the tips!
This was genuinely really fun to watch! The content just keeps getting better and better! I was wondering, a venus fly trap sort of lamp would be really cool!
Loved watching these cute little grumps emerge from the earth. Inspired me to go out and get some polymer clay and cheap sculpting tools for myself! As a complete beginner your channel has really encouraged me to just try making things and see what happens. Honestly can't thank you enough, keep up the awesome content!
If you want to make really cheap sculpting tools you can get the little screwdriver sets from the crackers at Xmas and put a dremel to them till your happy with the shape of the tool
I love this channel! It is so fascinating to watch your process, and the positive vibes you send out in each video leave nothing but smiles! Keep up the awesome work! - Foster
OMG I will so do it if you’ll give it a watch! I’m getting some fake leaves tomorrow so I can maybe start it today! I’m a small youtuber with only around 60 subs, and I hope to become like you!
These look awesome - I think I will Treffer to make some hollow version of these, fill them with dirt and use them as small pots for real plants - just think about how cool it would be to have real leavesgrow out of those heads…
I always love watching your videos XD the vibe and passion I get here is really wholesome and I love that! and when you just start laughing thru your work process, it felt really relatable >w< love your videos!!

I absolutely love the pikmin video games, my dream is to have a bunch of 3d printed pikmin options and animals to make dioramas

How about a 40k cherub? Even just in a similar size as these. Seems like a cool thing to make/have to me.
Those mandrakes have so much character. You can almost hear their grumpy little voices:
"Luv footy. Luv me pot. Luv screamin'. Simple as."
This is one of the best places on the Internet. Just such a good vibe, incredible creativity and such a high production quality to tie it all together. I'd watch you create anything as long as you were passionate about it.

100% Agreed.
"I love mandrakes and so do you" uh okay I didn't know I do but thanks :p
They are sad and chunky, what's not to like?
I didn’t know either but now I realized I do.

Yeah this rules so hard.
I'll be making some with my daughters while we're in lockdown.
That's really great to hear! Send pictures if you do!
I'm so pleased at how pleased you are with these little rooty boys
Ohh my... You are literally my inspiration couch. Every time I watch your stuff, Im like "Oki doki, I'm standing up and going to do some cool stuff"
So many small touches that really elevated these from 10 to 11. The fake plant weathering, the labels, the actual dirt. It's been amazing seeing your growth as a maker as much as a creator, Trent. Really well done.

Thub, Bub, and Grub grew up so fast. Excellent build and video m8
I never know what I'll get with a Miscast video but they are all wonderful.
I think a shirt with "Chuffed dad" and your mandrake triplets on it is the right call.
I'm not interested in I'd say one third of the things you make, but your skill AND enthusiasm still makes me watch
Oh my gosh, the scullery iii in the box takes me back. I used to spend hours upon hours stacked upon even more hours working with that stuff making all kinds of tiny figurines long before I ever found out that miniatures even existed. Good days.
I love how much joy this brings you.Laughing at your mandrake.😂❤
I legit just come back to RUclips for the weekly miscast video. Best channel
On RUclips for sure
"Nothing looks more like dirt as dirt."
So relaxing. I like. Pls do more of this. or just anything more random. Seeing you be happy about your creation makes me happy. Love
chuffed dad energy Miscast is best Miscast

They are awesome little grumpy plants

The bit about the labels was very helpful
Wasn't expecting the turn into full scale props, but loved this video as always!
These are better then ALL the mandrakes I’ve seen for sale!
I don't think I need any of these in my life, but I can see that you do (and they look great).
Everyone loves mandrakes!

Why was this so inspiring???? I love these little guys! I'd love to see more little props like this!
I appreciate it, I'll see what I can do :)
Really one of my favorite videos by one of my favorite channels! So much fun watching you and your work!
They turned out so great!
These are so amazing. I love them. Such beautiful lil mandrake kiddos
Loved this prop making episode! I think it'd be cool to see you make your own weird interpretation of some kind of monstrous little fairy (or other strange creature!) in an apothecary jar.
I absolutely love these! Don't know where they'd go in my flat, but I love them nonetheless
Wow! Those look like I need a dozen of them and thank you insight on how take that shine out of the cheap plastic leaves. I will 100% be using that in the future.
this is such a good wholesome creative space
Fantastic little fellas Trent! I love the genuine warmth that suffuses all your work. Always a great, relaxing and entertaining watch.
This has so inspired me to sculpt a nurgle demons army that's entirely full of mandrakes (as poxwalkers!) and other planty beasty things!
That's a really cool idea

Loved your mandrakes, but i just LOVE the way you have so much fun creating them!! THX for the vibes!!
I love these! They came out so awesome. Also loved the way you shot this one, really felt like I was across the table from you
Gaahhh I love these so much! They’re really excellent - well done my friend! I can just imagine one casually living between two real house plants 🪴
Thankyou Raquel!!!
Love these mandrakes, just furthering my want to get into sculpting or any art at all really. Awesome content as always :)
Do it! Trent tricked me into buying some basic sculpting tools and I have found it as an amazing outlet for creative energy I didn't know existed.
These make me very happy to see. Wonderful work here!
Awesome video. I feel like I say it every video, but you are such an inspiration. Your approach to sculpting and using what ever you can find is really great. I actually made a miniture fantasy "spaceship" with that approach.
I'd love to see you roll for a random magic item from your tabletop game and then make a prop of it mate!
Was not expecting a tutorial style video from you but am way into it. Nice!

Inspiring stuff man. Great video!
I'm chuffed for you and chuffed for me. I know that feeling, and when you finish a project and don't feel it. Enjoy the moment Trent.

ah man, now I want to sculpt again... great video, also you said Aluminium correctly.

Nice .
If you're going to do more props, I'd love to see your take on the Fiji Mermaid.
Great job they are so cute!
You should make some wands, scrolls and and a spellbook or two to sit next to them.
Bro you are a super cool person, really like your personality, channel and art, very inspiring, keep at it!
These are looking great man!
If you don't have an airbrush, you can use mica powders or eyeshadow before baking.
PLEASE keep making props!!! I really want to make one, I don’t have all the social media but have a RUclips channel, could post a video there!
