I agree. He was so arrogant thinking Janice was just going to take that punch and cry. I didn't expect it, but it was great. The look on his face. They were all sociopaths and psychopaths, but Richie was on another level of evil. PEACE.
Tony was right in this situation. That card game was under his protection, massive disrespect from Richie scaring his players and breaking up his game like this.
Tony should’ve sent Ritchie to the gay bar and had some of the leather biker boyZ hold him down and get his leather coat from him… you know then stuff his manicotti8===D 🕳😫😵💫
I love how the angle gets tighter and tighter with every cut when Richie looms over Davies. Very nicely directed, creates a real sense of claustrophobia.
Richie is by far the BEST characters that the Sopranos EVER had on the show. His eyes were pure evil. Every time that little guy came on the screen, intimidation was present.
Ritchie's Evel Eyes was the only reason he got that part, the producer thought Ritchie's Short Stature would make it hard to buy Ritchie as Tony's biggest threat, the part of Ritchie, was actually about to go to Ed O'Neill, "Al Bundy" Which would have been hard to buy him as Italian, but he's a big guy, who they thought would be a believable threat to Tony. Ed was relieved he didn't get the part, after finding out he'd eventually have to Marry Tony's sister Janice, he said he was already Married to a useless Woman just like her, Peggy Bundy!
@rickbonilla8308 well after seeing Joe Pesci in Goodfellas & Casino, that should have put the producers mind at rest regarding an actors height and threatening ability.
David Proval, the actor, only "really" watched the Sopranos DECADES later. He admitted in an interview he didn't know who that character was, because he was "evil". He actually thought he played it OK but was surprised at how many fans stop him in the streets for an autograph.
I love watching these short scenes on there own. When watching the whole series you kind of get distracted with everything else that's going on that you can miss how brilliant such a small scene is written, performed and shot. Incredible all round from everyone involved. Even Vincent Curatola (Johnny Sack) just lying on the couch is great in this scene.
+Garreth Gleeson I agree wholeheartedly. I watch these clips and I love them, but when I try to watch the series as a whole I can't get through it as well as other series.
Garreth Gleeson , agreed, I'm gonna download the whole series again but skip the bullshit drama at his house and doc's office and just focus on the mob stuff. his wife's voice is so irritating and Aj storyline when he gets older is weak
Absolutely. A series as fleshed out as the Sopranos requires a lot of viewings and a lot of paying attention to really follow it all. My wife and I are rewatching the whole series and I’ve definitely found that these short clips have helped me to finally feel like I’m tracking all the story lines. Johnny Sac is a good example. I never really understood until now that part of John Sacrimone’s stated role as Lupertazzi Underboss was that he was to be liaison to the New Jersey family on construction and other things. That’s why we see a NY guy like John spending so much time in Jersey and with the Soprano guys.
Richie is an example of how the cowboy stuff didn't fly anymore. He was right to be upset with Richie, but his psycho behavior always got in the way of him getting the respect he wanted.
I'm at Sinatra Junior in 2008 in Burbank really nice guy. Met Gandolfini in 2013 about a month before he died also a very nice guy. God Rest their souls

Robert Patrick is so good as Davey Scatino. The whole way he carries himself and acts is totally different from the rest of his role where he usually plays the tough guy types.
You gotta love Richie: whenever he comes by he brings such a peaceful, cheerful vibe with him.... BTW, glorious performance by David Proval, what an outstanding actor!
To me one of the greatest parts of writing Richie's dialogue is that he basically always has a valid point, and he spent energy carefully explaining his valid points to others. If you take out how crazy and aggressive and shitty he is, you are left with a very logical guy, which is why I think the other characters struggled to make a dent on him. Fascinating writing, truly fascinating writing. Even though he is obviously a bad vibe and he's gotta go at some point, in a wonderfully twisted way he is actually a very sympathetic character.
Well in this case he was both right and wrong. Right in the fact that the guy should never have been allowed into the game but unless he told Tony the guy owed him money why would Tony say no. Dead wrong in disrespecting the game and Tony, if he had a problem like he did he should've taken it up with Tony in the kitchen and not start a fucking rumble in front of everybody!
Even so, it was STILL an indirect favor to Tony, as Tony had not realized yet the guy wouldn't be good for it. Tony's lack of judgment letting the guy into the game can be seen as the root cause of the problems, as opposed to Richie's aggressions.
Yeh.. but he’s a sicko. It ain’t what you say it’s the way you say it sometimes. Richie didn’t have the makings of anybody. Cause he couldn’t let shit lay
@@patrickbyrne5070 True. But that's what I am saying is the genius of writing the character. You can tell watching the guy in 10 seconds he isn't going to make it, and yet, in almost every scene HE is clearly the one making the most sense.
Richie's biggest problem is that he s a blunt hammer. he not capable of being machiavellian. you can see that when he maneuvering against tony, he is terrible at it.
I think David Proval deserves a lot more of the credit for putting The Sopranos on the map. Gandolfini gets to shine when he has a true acting equal. I agree. He was so arrogant thinking Janice was just going to take that punch and cry. I didn't expect it, but it was great. The look on his face. They were all sociopaths and psychopaths, but Richie was on another level of evil. PEACE.

Richie is by far the BEST characters that the Sopranos EVER had on the show. His eyes were pure evil. Every time that little guy came on the screen, intimidation was present.
Time was on with that type of evil and intensity, perfect physique and face for the job, and what an actor too besides that.
those Manson lamps

Absolutely. You could see Tony’s face change when Richie told him that Davey owed him 8K. Tony probably knew right then that Plan B, busting out Davey’s store was going to be the outcome.
They busted-out David's store and got a lot more than $40k + Richie's $8k, I think.

You gotta love Richie: whenever he comes by he brings such a peaceful, cheerful vibe with him....
BTW, glorious performance by David Proval, what an outstanding actor!
The squirrels get quiet 🤣🤣🤣
If there wasn't Richie to make Tony more empathetic to us viewers for why he had to be the monster he was...I don't know if the show works ultimately. You had to believe he had no choice but to be like he was to keep psychos and maniacs like Richie at bay. It took a hell of an actor to pull that off.
