    Thank you Joe and greetings from Finland! This was an excellent lesson, much better than the others in youtube. I'm a 70 years old boy trying to improve my guitar playing. This kind of teaching helped me a lot.

      @@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons Another oldie here. After suffering a slight stroke I find it a struggle to play rhythm, (even though I was in a group in the 70’s) I’m ok with the fingering the chords. Thanks Joe for making it easier.

    Really very nice to listen and watch you play this song and that 000-28 has such great tone. I have to capo up 2 frets for me to sing it but it's so fun to play with all the walk- ups & downs and sounds great on my ceo-7.
    Also good to hear the solo at speed. I haven't got it all just yet but could follow you thru most of it but very beneficial for me to see how it fits in over the verse rhythm.
    Thanks Joe for another great lesson.

    Hi Joe ,I've been playing this song( incorrectly) for years : I hadn't noticed the F minor chord in there - it makes a difference ! Thanks 👍
    It reminds me of the comedian Eric Morecambe telling the pianist André Previn :
    " *I'm playing all the right notes - but not necessarily in the right order* " 😄

      Leadbelly and others who played it didn't put in the F minor. Snooks Eaglin's version is the first I know to have that change. Snooks used the 4 - 4m in a number of his songs, One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer for example.

    I think a big part of the Unplugged album Clapton is paying tribute to the greats that influenced him, and I think with this song (although it is credited to Leadbelly on the album) Clapton is paying tribute to the great Snooks Eaglin who was such an enormous influence on a whole generation (mine and his) of guitar players in the UK. I hope hearing and playing this version will encourage players to listen to Snooks Eaglin. I have always believed that if you want to play like someone you need to listen not to them but to the people they listened to.

    • @JoeMurphysGuitarlessons
      @JoeMurphysGuitarlessons  3 года назад

      Yes there is no doubt he is paying tribute to some of the blues artists that influenced him, whilst putting something of himself into the songs. Oddly enough he doesn’t cover a snooks Eaglin song on the album, but I would guess anybody who has listened to Snooks couldn’t help but be impressed/influenced by his acoustic playing. His New Orleans Street Singer album is for me a masterpiece of acoustic playing. I have actually covered one of his songs in one of my lessons St James Infirmary ruclips.net/video/lZyKpOIEvhU/видео.html I have always felt it most important to develop our own style, rather than try to mimic others, too much. It takes something to be able to captivate with just one guitar and vocal, Snooks did that, with ease, I can’t help but feel all that busking he did, helped him create that sound.

    • @keithchilvers7434
      @keithchilvers7434 3 года назад

      @@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons Snooks did Alberta, ruclips.net/video/P17KvBn5xTI/видео.html. Along with Mississippi John Hurt and Reverend Gary Davis he was a huge influence in the early 1960s and I can hear the echoes of his version in Clapton's .

    • @JoeMurphysGuitarlessons
      @JoeMurphysGuitarlessons  3 года назад +1

      Agreed,I love snooks version of Alberta, always preferred it over the Clapton version, probably because it’s just one guy and his guitar, he doesn’t need anything else. I also love the Clapton version with all the instrumentation, all great players too, one of the few song on the album without a guitar solo, which is why I did my own in the style of Clapton.

    • @keithchilvers7434
      @keithchilvers7434 3 года назад +1

      @@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons I agree, I just think Snooks' version is unbeatable, not just his unique guitar but also his impeccable timing on the vocals.

    Hi Joe always enjoy the Joe show and and your lessons and grateful to you for some of the artist I’ve been introduced via your channel. IMO this is one of your best lessons for several reasons firstly the song straight out of gate helps then a detailed left hand close up and a slower verbal delivery of exactly what going on. Great job 👍 Hoping to become a Patreon very soon🙂 #utv
