  • Let's cook Thanksgiving! What a week! Wow y'all lol. OK. So the week started out with me sick, which was a huge bummer but that's ok. I still started prepping for thanksgiving by pulling out my recipes, planning the menu, scheduling the cooking over the week, planning a grocery list, and making the cranberries. As the week went on, I made a pumpkin pie and buckeyes and cream of mushroom soup. I wrap up the video showing you my Thanksgiving table before saying goodbye for now :)

I love that your husband says "I've got you" because mine says exactly the same. It is such a sweet, gentlemanly attitude and always calms me when I am not on top of my game - like you, this happens when I am sick. Oh, the frozen drinks!!! Kids after my own heart. When I was pregnant with our son, now 24, I craved frozen coke and it was only at one petrol station up the highway. My dear husband would drive there just for me, even in the wee hours of the morning. I still love it now but the way little kids put all the flavours together - this I do not understand. I am glad you are recovered.

I am an old mama. Let me tell you something: your health comes first. The earth won't stop spinning if Thanksgiving isn't held on Thursday or isn't homemade from the get-go. I come from a family of cops and nurses; we regularly held celebrations on alternative days. Stove Top stuffing can be dressed up. Just my .02.

Up here in the wilds of Canada we have turkey for thanksgiving in October. Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cauliflower cheese, Brussels sprouts and pumpkin pie. I am also gluten free. My husband is from a England and the cauliflower cheese is an English dish that our family has at most special occasions. Also, I may be the mother of the only kid on earth who loves Brussels sprouts and he now has three little Brussels sprout lovers. Myself, I am not a fan.

Hi Chana! I've been watching for a while and have really enjoyed a glimpse into your life. My life is very different as a Christian, full-time working mom of twin teenage boys. I've learned many Old Testament connections/symbolism from watching you. You have added depth to my understanding.
I have a few questions for the next time you feel like answering...1) What's the meaning behind the name of your channel? 2) Hosting people for meals can be overwhelming and financially a burden for many people. How do you manage food budgets and the added pressure of hosting so frequently?
That's all I can think of right now... Thanks for your videos. You do an amazing job! 🙂

There's an easier way to make buckeyes. It's just 1/2 c butter (or whatever alternative you use), a jar of peanut butter, and about a pound of powdered sugar. Mix until it all comes together and cleans up the bowl you're mixing in. Then just roll into balls and use a toothpick to dip them in the chocolate so it leaves a little circle on top.

I finally scanned in my yearly plan and all the recipes and even the shopping list. Now I can print it all out, change if necessary and I’m good to go. We have Ralphs markets here. That’s really Kroger. I can order on the computer and pick up at a time of my choosing. They bring it out and load the car. I can use all my coupons and get many not available except on line. I can click “no substitutions” or “best available” or a specific replacement for each item. If they sub a more expensive item, I don’t pay extra. Less costly items and they take off the extra. There is delivery as well, but it’s from a service and not as good. So far, in three years there have been two items that weren’t good - an avocado and a tomato, both of which looked fine, but weren’t. This might be helpful for someone who is as busy as you! I admire your energy and patience, but we all have a limit!

Could not have done it without him, he is truly my greatest blessing! Of course the younger kids ate sweet rolls, apple sauce and cranberry sauce only!!! The older kids and adults devoured everything else. What a fantastic time! Great video, always great to watch you cook! I am from Ohio originally and Buckeyes are very popular there, of course. I have never heard of using rice crispies in the recipe though….everything else you are using is the same as what we still do today. We use a lot more powdered sugar and leave a little of the peanut butter mixture uncovered so it looks like a buckeye. I image that the rice crispies give an interesting texture so they are not quite as “heavy duty” as what I remember. I may try your way someday.

You and Mr. Firefly are q great couple and seem like so much fun to hang out with. Glad you're feeling better and hoped you enjoyed your holiday.
Growing up, my mon did the cooking and buying of the Honey baked ham for Thanksgiving. My mom made her own cornbread dressing and cranberry sauce. I did start making sweet potato pie when I was six and made them for my mom for Thanksgiving 2015, what turned out to be for her last, she passed the following spring.
Thanksgiving 2015 was the first time I'd made spp in almost a decade and thought about making them over the yrs but haven't quite gotten around to it. The thought did cross my mind leading up to 🦃 day. After my dad passed, my mom stopped doing a whole turkey and if we didn't go to dinner at my sister's or family friends', she'd do a turkey breast. After she passed, I'd either go to my sister's, family friends, grabbed something from Boston Market, or in 2017, down to Dallas to visit family friends where I helped to inject cajun seasoning into turkeys that were going to be fried , which was fun.

We picked up our daughter from grad school the day before Thanksgiving for the weekend. I didn’t make a turkey this year because it was just going to be the 3 of us & my husband doesn’t like turkey. I made him homemade chicken & cornbread dressing (unsweetened Southern style) & my daughter & I a gluten free chicken & dressing (stuffing) using gluten free bread. It turned out great. I made cranberry sauce with fresh cranberries, 1/4 cup sugar & frozen cherry berry blend berries. Sweet but tart. My daughter said that it was great on toast also! I use a sweetened condensed coconut milk for my pumpkin pie recipe but I don’t use a pie crust. I don’t have a Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods near me & no gluten free pie crusts available in the area. My daughter has a gluten, dairy & egg allergy, but she can tolerate a small amount of eggs if it’s cooked in something like a pie, cake, etc.
