    Yes! This is the future of drawing out our ideas/thinking about design. I teach drawing architecture, and I do use Procreate for the practice. Thank you for the channel. I'll recommend this to my students. I've been only using iPads July 2018 starting with the regular iPad 2018 with Pencil support. Now it's the larger 12.9 iPad Pro 2018. Procreate is just heaven to use, and just hope they put in the proper scaling tool in a future update.

      Hey thanks for watching, more videos coming soon! Yes, the Apple Pencil was a gamechanger for me. I do use Morpholio Trace to set up initial scale for some of my drawings, otherwise the grid in Procreate works fine. Let me know if you have any requests for what I should cover in future videos.

      Hey thanks for watching! Yes I'm an architect and right now I'm trying to create a set of videos that covers how I use the iPad in my profession (that's all I really know, I'm not really an expert with digital painting, or other art forms). But I'd be happy to expand it to other disciplines that may be related. Let me know if you have any specific suggestions and I'll definitely look into it!

    great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Looking forward to seeing more. I don't have the ipad pro but I think I can manage w the air. One thing I didn't get clear is how to get/import drawings to scale. ANy way to get around it without using CAD or Photoshop. Can't afford either. Also how did you get your grid background? thanks again.

    • @DigSketch
      @DigSketch  4 года назад +1

      There are various ways to import to scale, with varying levels of precision. If you bring in a drawing it needs to have some kind of reference scale so you can just manually scale it. You need to set your paper size, and set the scale of the grid in Procreate.
      I use Procreate's grid, but also have my own custom grid I created in Procreate. Will go over all this and share my grid file in a future video.
      Also instead of Photoshop, try Affinity Photo. Our company (a huge multinational architecture firm) is making this transition as Adobe seems to be taking advantage of its monopoly. I've been playing with Affinity and it seems to do what I need it to do. Still getting familiar with it though.

Then go to Settings/ Prefs/ Gesture Controls/ Assisted Drawing- select the 4th option which turns on Assisted Drawing when you press the Quick Menu button with the Apple Pencil.

    Great video!, with your experience, could you compare morpholio with procreate?

    • @drawingarchitecture
      @drawingarchitecture 5 лет назад +1

      Morpholio Trace is buggy and lags. The accidental rotations disrupts the workflow. I appreciate some of its tools, but Procreate takes the lead in drawing with ease and responsiveness.

    • @DigSketch
      @DigSketch  5 лет назад +4

      Yes! Completely agree. I am working on a video on how I use Morpholio Trace (really just for the scale tool), but the other aspect that is poorly designed is their layer system. As an architect, the buildings I work on typically have more than one floor, and I need to be able to align these floors in layers on top of each other to work on common vertical elements across each floor. Its just so much easier to do this in Procreate.

    • @V4D2
      @V4D2 5 лет назад

      DigSketch hmmm.. I Have you been able to workaround that Scaling step on Procreate?
      Are you using Morpholio Trace just to scale and then exporting to Procreate?
      this issue is really important, imo.
      thanks

    • @DigSketch
      @DigSketch  4 года назад +1

      no, Procreate is more like photoshop, just a good drawing tool. Morpholio Trace has more precise measuring tools. But for concept drawings in Procreate I just set up a background grid to scale, much faster to reference that for dimensions. Will be covering this is an upcoming video

      Ricardo H. Martinez I do use Morpholio for specific tasks. They have some great features that Procreate just doesn’t have like better tools for scaling. I’ll typically block out my plans in Morpholio Trace, but develop them further in Procreate because the layer system is so much better

    great video ... this is inspirational. could you elaborate more on how to bring in drawings or larger sheets into procreate? do I have to create a new sheet at scale in PS and then bring it into procreate? can i bring in a drawing with a grid pattern already on it, since i'm not sure if it's possible to create a 1/8", 1/4" grid pattern in procreate. i'm still learning all of this ... lol.

    • @DigSketch
      @DigSketch  5 лет назад

      Bringing in a drawing and scaling it in Procreate is not great. It does have a customizable scale, so you can do it, but it just takes some eye-balling and is not easy to get exactly right, so may not be too precise. Better to prepare it with precision in PS at a specific size, then create a Procreate drawing at that size and import it, then auto-scale it up to full page.

    • @MsMXLight
      @MsMXLight 4 года назад

      DigSketch when I do this my image gets blurry, say if I import a photo in an A3 size paper in procreate and I choose ‘scale to full page’. What kind of image do you import so that that doesn’t happen? Or is this not what you meant?

      DigSketch i actually switch to Serif software, along with Procreate and a couple of other apps.
      The only one i keep from when i got into Architecture..is Autodesk’s Sketchbook (now sketchbook pro)..which still has Procreate beat in a few..small details.
      no app is perfect, evidently.
      Anyway....2D/3D workflow would be excellent, as i often start sketching in 3D directly.
      i started with SketchUp, but i am now moving to ArchiCAD & Rhino.
      I have been looking for my base workflow, as i feel once i get the gist of it, i’m gonna start making up for the lost time (these past handful of years) i haven’t been drawing.
      thank you so much for your channel.. as it has been a MAJOR factor in me moving forward.
      i stumble upon it yesterday...and i am binge watching all your videos. ;) .
      So far..my main gripe with Procreate and any other sketching software...is the ability to stay within SCALE.. U also mention this on another video.
      As i am not a Photoshop user..i am still to totally grasp how u did it.. I’m pretty sure Affinity Photo will allow me to scale it just the same..
      What do you reckon?
      ps: what software, other than Adobe stuff, Procreate and SketchUP are you using ?
      what’s your CAD software of choice?
      thanks again

    So I am want to study architecture I have not yet started but my brother studies industrial design. He was looking for a very powerful laptop so that he can do 3D models and renders. This leads me to my question for an architecture student do I need a laptop or can I live with an iPad to carry around but have a powerful pc at home? Other alternatives are welcome.

    • @wvlfboyy
      @wvlfboyy 5 лет назад +2

      I study architecture and while it is fun to get work done on the iPad, you WILL need a proper PC. However, so far we have barely rendered or used any heavy applications on the go. Usually we are told to do those things at home. You should have some sort of Laptop for on the go work anyway. I often meet up with friends after Uni to work on small CAD projects or ID which (for now) you cannot do on an iPad. It is a nice addition to a Laptop, however, it wont replace it yet. I'd settle for a powerful PC at home and a less powerful laptop. The iPad is amazing but the 1000 Dollars are better spent on the Laptop. My experience, can't assure you it'll be the same for you.

      vindoughs thanks for the input I’ll do that.

    • @DigSketch
      @DigSketch  5 лет назад +1

      That's difficult for me to answer, as I was in school about 20 years ago! But back then I did have a laptop as well as a more powerful desktop at home, and I feel if I were a student today I would have to agree with vindough's comment below. The iPad is great for sketching, note-taking, emails and some other creative tasks, but if I had to choose, I think a laptop would be more useful so you could actually do cad/revit/3d/photoshop wherever you are.
