Can’t stop smiling. Even as an American. That was incredible tennis from Monfils. He’s impossible not to love. I know it’s unrealistic to think he’ll win it all but I hope he goes deep in this tournament. It’s good for my heart if he does
@@sisirkumardas7501 Of course! I will be really happy if he can manage to do that. He has everything that it takes. Maybe a little extra to beat people like Sinner.
Two players i enjoy the most watching Monfils, Federer. Why? Watching them play is like meditating. There's a beautiful flow to their game. Monfils didn't give Fritz any pace whatsoever to work with, and Fritz thrives on pace. Beautifully and masterfully moved the ball from side to side, altering the pace, depth, and flight. Then, suddenly injecting pace or creating acute angles. Master performance!
Throughout this AO Gael has been very deliberate with his game plan. He has always been flashy and soeedy, but now he is measuring his groundstrokes until he gets a neutral ball to do something special. I have never seen him utilize a strategy so well in a slam. I live Carlos and Jannik, but i won't lie here, I'd love to see Gael continue winning ❤
GAEL MONFILS - The Superman of Tennis who made me start to love this sport Heart feels so warm seeing him win and when he's on focus like the game with nishikori, he's absolutely Meditating on the court.
Im so impressed with Monfils this year, even when Stake have him as an underdog he seems to win easy how can this guy keep improving at 38 years old? His style is rock solid, I love it 😁
This was extraordinary from both players! Monfils, always a pleasure watching you play and feel thrilled when you are successful with a win, watching your expressions of joy! East Canada chiming in.
That celebration of Monfils is just infectious joy! I don't think people have talked enough about how Monfils served 2x more aces than Fritz in this match. Wowza!
This Is probably the most tactical game I've seen by Monfils...you could tell he was fucking with Fritz destroying his pattern of play from a very fast game to a very slow one, Fritz couldn't determine the pace of the game
Exactly, tons of variety messes with a ball striker like Fritz. Although I’m worried about how much longer Gael can keep this level up, Fritz was an ideal matchup for him.
Just amazing to see that… i remember this man playing Roger in Doha 20 years ago! Mesmerizing tennis when he is into it … epic celebration, epic player. Hope he still can put on a show in the next matchs.
Man I'm so freaking happy.. it's not about just this win, it's about a really nice guy that overcame his weak mind as he used to have long time ago.. like Paire and Kyrgios . The guy just accepted that he needed to grow and how great was this decision for him.. guy deserved this win!
I prayed he won the 2nd set so he could get a boost. I could see he was visibly exhausted. And I was right. Winning put the pep back in his step. Amazing performance! Still got it!❤🎉
Monfils and his wife, congratulations! I wish you the best for the remainder of this tournament. I saw you first Monfils at the first round and was looking for your wife, when I saw her also playing. I was so happy for you guys. I hope you and your wife make it all the way to the finals. Congrats!
From all the struggles to injuries to one thing or another....it's beautiful to witness Gael's artistry. He's playing with the kind of freedom that comes with age and wisdom. And my word, what a kind human on and off the court. ❤❤❤❤❤
Congrats to Monfils! Keep playing inspiring tennis! Too bad for Fritz..the bright side, him and wife can make a vlog together about the Men's final...and he can express how one day he would hope to make it there!!
Full circle.. these two were involved in the first epic tennis match I ever watched in person all the way back in 2018, with Taylor winning. And now here they are again, in another quality match, this time with Monfils victorious! Best of luck to him, his on a roll atm and playing incredible tennis given his age 😍
OMG I love it! So much variation of pace and masterful point construction. He seemed to lull Taylor with change-ups and then deliver massively heavy shots.
watch some of his highlights brother. I believe he's one of the only ones to truly put 100%, heart, and soul in this game as he chases down the most impossible looking corner shots and retrieves them. he's always been incredible
Fritz basically explained in his post match interview that he felt like gael was just getting to everything - from serves to difficult shots. Amazing match. Just typical monfils being as spry as he is. Hope we see more between them in the future!
Monfils and Svitolina, husband and wife, beating the number 4 seeds, in the same 3rd round. This is some mad level of upsets, and upside for the family.🎉🎉
Well after Fed retired, it was left to Monfils to keep the beautiful game going. A player with immense talent but a total lack of focus to be a consistent winner. In this match, we saw what could have been. No showboating, just a determination to win.
Since 2005, monfils has always been one of my faves to watch. Ability to change pace, variety of shots, creative approach to the game, and to top it all off, gravitating personality. One of the last one standing of that generation. Oddly the french players seem to have the endurance and stick around lately at tailend of the career (pretty sure just saw gasquet within the last 2 months in a tourney)
Best story of AO has got to be 38 year old Gael Monfils and wife Elina Svitolina winning their 3rd round matches while upsetting world ranked #4 players in the process. How is Monfils playing his best tennis at 38 is beyond me. Kudos to this coaching staff and wife for keeping him focused and motivated. Totally inspiring!
This improved version of Monfils add a much higher IQ ( faints, shot variety and selection, use opponent weakness) and serve to his incredible athleticism and court coverage. Impressive. Maybe a top 10 player again capable to win a few ATP tournaments more.
Monf spent so much of his career showboating (in the best way possible) that it's great to see him getting a late career surge by playing great tennis. French players have such longevity, e.g., Arnaud Clement. It's too bad they never had their version of Nadal because flashy French tennis is just so exciting to watch.
Great tennis player, great sportsman, great man. Gael is a fan favourite for good reason, & you love to see his game come together like this. Allez Le Monf!
The tie break in the third killed Fritz's spirit, he looked like he was lost at what to do against LaMonf who was just unplayable. What a game from Monfils, always a joy to watch and one of the nicest bloke on the tour, at 38, he is still an amazing player
Gael. In all fairness, you outplayed Taylor today. I loved Taylor. I also love you too. I’m an American, but you outplayed Taylor. Well deserved congratulations🎉❤🎉❤🎉🎉❤🎉❤🎉💪💪
Monfils’ game is so unique. He’ll lull you to sleep with some rope-a-dope shots and sliced and out of nowhere, he’ll just blast a 100 mph winner out of nowhere.

I think that’s my favorite point the whole tournament, It was FILTHY!! MONFILS is just a BEAST!! His skill set is unmatched!! And Taylor isn’t THAT Good! He’s solid, but kind of a one trick, BY THE BOOK , player.. He hasn’t any creativity, spontaneity on the court, like a robot.. u can tell he’s in his head during points, making sure he does EVERYTHING PERFECTLY, it’s not natural.. welp Congratulations MONFILS 🎉🎉
Man's still got it. But there's been a change in his game. More drop-shots and more of winning the important points. Wild how he's constantly improving despite his age
Gael’s game still getting better even at 38 years old. Incredible 🇫🇷

Monfils seems to be forcing Fritz to play at his own pace - crazy blend of short hanging balls, ripping forehands and athleticism. Strategical genius!
That split second pause at 6:52 before Monfils strikes his forehand so that Fritz can't commit to a side is amazing. Such a smart guy
Suscribo a cada palabra que decis...todo el partido fue un juego de ajedrez...por eso no solamente hay que pegarle fuerte a la pelota
Thank you for that brilliant observation. It was silently epic!
Hm, looks like Monfils was originally going to send it cross court, but waited a splitsecond for the ball to pass further so that he can send it DTL.
making him mistime his split step is crazy
@MrDarthvaderlikespie yes exactly, Even more detail including split step!

Very true! His style of play is very unique and uncomfortable to that of any other player.
Very smooth tennis style.
