- In this video we are getting into the final assembly process on this awesome SG style kit build. It is going to take two videos to get this thing fully assembled since we ran into a couple of interesting issues on the way through this one.

Brad question. Duplicolor gloss black (acrylic enamel) with a 2K poly clear coat. Will they work together? Thanks Tim
@@tim7of717 They will if you let the duplicolor dry fully for a week or so and then sand lightly with 800 grit before adding your 2K overtop.
Hey Brad I can't seem to find the copper shielding tape on the solo site. Appreciate any help thanks
Every time I do an upgrade on any of my guitars I run into all sorts of difficulties, thank you for showing what others we may find. Can't wait to see the second part, keep it up Brad!
Thanks Alberto. Hopefully you can avoid the perils that I should have avoided haha.
Always enjoy the videos Brad. As a recommendation: For anyone who owns a drill press and is inserting any type of sleeve into your guitar body (for floating tremolo or bridges with posts) you can place a wooden dowel with a tapered end into the drill press (make sure your dowel is thick enough to handle the stress (3/8” diameter will work) and don’t make it very long). Then place a protective layer over the flat support on the drill press to keep your guitar from getting scratched or damaged (a soft, thick towel will work). Then using the drill press (in the OFF position, or unplugged to be safe) with the tapered dowel you can slowly press the sleeve into the body of the guitar. The tapered end will slide into the sleeve and keep it from slipping around the face of the sleeve. This also allows you to have more control over the insertion of the sleeve, without fear of damaging the metal sleeve or your guitar.
I love using the conductive paint in the cavities and copper tape for the backs of the cover plates. At least it wasn't wrecked in the drilling!! The story of the burning guitar caused tears again and I said I wouldn't cry over it anymore...lol
Almost there!!!!! Looking good.
Thanks Ben!
Builds looking great Brad.. One small tip.. do the nut at the very last and have your tuners and strings all on.. then do your groobar spacing for the string/nut height and then do your superglue on the end grain pace the nut, put the strings on and immediately tighten (no need to tune) the strings to force the nut into place. Wait about 20 min. You’ll find tuning it up to full pitch is easier and more stable because the strings have relaxed a little. BTW - I also put some string lube on all contact points during this first step, which helps as well for final setup. Just saves you a little time and gives you a more consistent outcome.
Thanks Rick
Brad Angove - Necessity is the MOTHER of invention. Or how my grandpa used to tell me.. “work smarter, not harder”
Nice! Looks awesome!
Thanks Pete!
Final assembly so soon?? 😂😂😂 j/k, the more you take your time, the more I usually learn. Another great series, done! Thanks, man.
Thanks James. Haha yeah it has taken a while for this one as usual.
Thanks, I learned a lot from your mistakes today. A very good series.
s.
Glad to hear it! The mistakes in this one were unusually useful haha.
Looking good man 👍
Thanks 👍
Great video! Stuff happens and we all forget sometimes. You managed tho and made it happen! I forgot to check my new pots on my guitar before I sent it for a pro paint job. See if the same thing happens 😅
Fingers crossed!
That was nerve racking watching you drilling that hole from the B pickup to the control pots one wrong angle right threw the face of the guitar glad it worked out great job.
It was nerve wracking doing it too. Believe me haha.
Good work on the drilling! Shielding paint is convenient but copper, even though it'll rarely be seen, looks way better :-)
Thanks Steve
Brad, when gluing in the nut don't glue on the underside but glue on the end grain. You only need two small drops. Otherwise you can't take the nut out without taking wood with it.
Good trick! Doing it on the end grain definitely makes sense.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaye, Village Blacksmith - great beer! Wait a tic...shouldn't you be drinking beer from that northern city of yours?
I'm just trying to be fair. I drink beer from all over haha.
Have you ever had a problem with creating a ground loop when inserting pre-wired electronics? Since all the pots are contacting the copper tape, the tape should act as a common ground for the electronics.
I haven’t had that issue yet, but it can happen. A small piece of tape can fix that.
Nice bumblebee caps!
They are pretty.
Well at least you didn't drill through the back of the guitar... Like me once... Well, twice on the same guitar LOL. Live and learn!
I wasn’t far off haha.
We need to have a UK solo guitars supplier.... hit me up lol....not many decent guitar parts suppliers in the uk for quality gear.. definitely looks awesome mate with some great upgrades. Well done. My problem with the tape is that the adhesive isn't conductive ( time to invent it brad)
I'll get right on that haha.
I like the look of the Village Blacksmith ale - wonder if we can get that in the UK
It’s a Alberta based brewery. Tasty though I’m a big fan.
Looks great. I am just doing my first build with a spray finish, I usually stain and oil. I have sanded up to 12000 grit, what should I use to polish it up for a shiner finish, by hand as I don’t have a polisher? Thanks
Use some polishing compound and a piece of an old t-shirt.
Love your videos Brad, I have learned a lot. I'm also planning on building the SG kit from Solo. Do you know if they made a mistake not drilling out between the pickup and control cavities or is that the way this kit comes?
I’m not entirely sure if that was just missed on this one or not. It’s not all that difficult to do if you notice it at the beginning for the finish goes on.
Hey there Brad....You would think the wiring routes would have already been there for any "complete" guitar kit. I wonder if Solo knows about this. Always enjoy your content...Jimmy
ya, they’ve always been there in the past. I was surprised not to have them this time.
Feed the algorithm!
I’m not sure what that means haha.
Hi Brad, I enjoy your videos. I am building my first guitar from scratch - a Gibson SG copy, so I have been following this series. I have the body built from White Limba, but not ready to try to build a neck, so I ordered one. While I am waiting for this to arrive I ordered a TCK-69 from Solo (through your site). I am having fun building this kit, but my question is - where do you get your copper shielding, Solo doesn't list it?
oh, I just pick that up through amazon. If you take a look at my amazon link in the description, it is in the guitars hardware and tools list.
I run my drill in reverse to avoid tear out
I used to do that to start with when drilling from the top. Of course, it doesn’t actually drill that way, but I demonstrated that technique a while back in one of my videos I believe.
Hi Brad - which Dimarzio pickups were chosen for this project?
PAFs
@@BradAngove would have been mine too!
👍✌
How bout a link to the guitar on fire? Great job Brad.

Brad Angove very cool. Thanks.
Brad. Any ideas on the Ferrell drilling?
For what? A string through tele?
Brad Angove Yes Brad a string through tele. But without using professional tools like beach drills.
Hey Brad, I'm a beginner in painting and I have a question that I hope you can answer.
Can I leave my base coat for a few days before applying my top coat?
Bacause of this pandemic my top coat and clear coat that I ordered was delayed and I really want to start painting my gas tank with the primer and base coat that came today
Really hope you can see this, thanks in advance
Absolutely. I often leave my base coat for several days before moving on to clear.
Thanks alot for replying brad, never expected you reply this fast.
I think you should make a video ripping some guitar solos :D
How do you keep your drill straight?????? Someone must know. Does Brad know???
Andy was it you who was asking me about drilling straight through the body for ferrules?
@@BradAngove Yes Brad. I know you are very busy. I am asking you if you know how to keep the drill, screwdriver straight for 6 perfect holes.
Brad this is for a tele with no pre drilled holes.
Brad, I understand if you don't want to say but...how much would you charge for a build like this?
Hi there. I’m not doing anymore of these commission jobs, but someone like BigDGuitars might be able to do one for you.
Tusq over bone?
Tusq is my go to.
First
Second! lol
5th. I lernt!
Haircut is still looking fresh hey?
@@BradAngove First thing I noticed, Fonzie!😂😂😂😂😂
Lack of attention to detail. You should have inspected when got it. Lesson Learned.
So you don't play for your girlfriend... The female part of the audience just breathed a sigh of relief.
