Yeah my daughter struggles to move characters in 3d space (struggles to play pokemon Violet for example), but this might help her learn the basics of game movement by the looks of it.
Yeah, back in the day I remember there were so many games aimed at young kids, but since the ps3 and xbox those games started vanishing, it's good to know that they're making a comeback
I'm also a childless adult who just heard of this series and the way Jon describes it as not talking down to kids and hitting harder subjects kind of reminds me of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and I've found myself watching episodes of that in my adulthood. Does the comparison fit?
Basically the game should’ve been an adaptation of “Bumpy and the Wise Old Wolfhound.” An RPG where everyone plays a pretend role allowing players to explore not just their house but the town as well.
Tears because the episode was funny? Or because it was beautiful? Also, more of an ironic hilarious? ... Or are you laughing at your kids crying at the beauty of a Bluey episode?
This feels special to me because Jon and I are the same age and had our kids the same time. Following him on social media it was fun as a fan to see him talk about the same things I was experiencing as a dad and now my son has got this sand video game that he’s really excited about. Although Jon I’ll never forgive you for ignoring Australia when saying Mario Tennis Aces wasn’t a dead game. It is in Australia Jon. It is in Australia. I haven’t found a match since launch Jon. I haven’t forgotten Jon.
As someone who lives in Washington state in the US, it’s quite normal for the living room and kitchen to be on second floor. California split comes to mind.
Oh man blue is one of the coolest kid shows I have ever seen. That episode where there's simultaneously explaining Evolution and religion at the same time as teaching you about growing up growing old and dying is just absolutely insane and I have no idea how they pulled it off so well
2:16 I'm Australian and it caught me off guard that the living room and kitchen were up stairs. No one I know has there's upstairs It must just be a Brisbane thing🤷♀
Bluey is a great watch and always gives me the feels. I'm in my 30s and no kids and I'll happily binge this any day. And Bandit is the best dad hands down!
I'm 26 and I loved it lol. It's a wholesome game. Not worth the price, but wholesome nonetheless. However I think they REALLY missed out on making the sandbox part more fun and playful. Aside from the 4 games, which are nice, for the most part, you can't really interact much besides picking up objects. Would've loved to see more interaction with the objects and house. Eating food, sitting on objects, sleeping, various poses, playing with toys. Essentially making the sandbox part of the game a playhouse game. That would've really made the game more interactive and replayable, especially for kids, as they could roleplay life as their favorite characters.
Stuck the nail right on the noggin… First found it as a Disney jr filler show during the lockdown and it’s been a family favorite ever since…. Cried more than a few times…. Whenever I’m loosin it with the kids I ask “WWBD… what would bandit do?”
Team cherry will take 10 years to make the game. Give it to krome studios, make a 3D bluey platformer, and krome studios is based in Brisbane, same place bluey is set!
You mention a the idea of a Bluey RPG, which I've also thought about - and tbh, it would probably be the optimal genre for a Bluey game. Make the plot a whole game of pretend that the kids are playing, alluding to episodes like Bumpy and The Adventure. Make Bluey and Bingo the main characters, with special team attacks like the Mario & Luigi series. Make the "enemies" all just other characters in different costumes. Make items like the magic xylophone, featherwand, balloon, and more toys usable items with in- and out-of-battle functions. The possibilities are endless
im nearly in my mid 20s, and have no kids of my own but the clips ive seen of the show have certainly been higher tier than the stuff i used to watch when i was around the target age, for sure, and tha's a good sign. the game is a positive, because kids that age will have a blast just being able to run around as their fav characters from tv, and ultimately, fun is what's important to them.
I’m Australian and kitchens aren’t normally upstairs here. The closest thing I can think of is a house where the kitchen might be technically upstairs but still on the same floor as the front door while there might be a downstairs rumpus room
I’ll probably grab this on sale because…it’s Bluey. I adore Bluey. I was worried the game wouldn’t be for me, and honestly, I didn’t expect it to be. I just had a small glimmer of hope that maybe there’d be something there for me. Oh well. At least Bluey supremacy is real.
Onesies is the only one to make me cry. The message hits harder when you do have kids. It's like, what if that were me? I hate that it will never happen for some people.
It hits exceptionally hard when you have kids, despite being told years before they were born that you couldn't have them. 😣 Sleepytime is my all time favourite though! Onesies is a very close second.

My fiancé and I played it together for an hour or two yesterday, we really enjoyed it. I think it becomes much more fun for adults if you try to collect everything.

Ooh!! Awesome!!! I think this is the first review of the game so far! I wanted to wait for reviews to come out so I can read/watch those before buying my own Switch copy of the game! I do also like that Jon chose to play as Bandit, my favourite character from the series! I also like that this review appears to be based on the Nintendo Switch release, at least judging by the button icons. Before this review came up, there were 3 gameplay videos in English, with GameRiot covering the PlayStation 5 release, Vooks covering the Nintendo Switch release, and XCageGame covering the Xbox Series S/X or Windows 10/11 (with Xbox compatible controller) release. The Steam page for the Windows release indicated that a controller is required, and I can see why in this review (with the character movements seemingly coded to the left control stick) (2:12) I agree, as it reminds me of news articles I read about American children getting thrown off (I think) when watching Bluey, but I had similar experiences as a child growing up in Singapore but watching TV programmes and films produced in the US where i would characters show, use, and/or introduce things that didn't really exist or are done differently here. Not everyone can adjust or do research, so thanks for the warning. (2:22) Some Bluey fans mentioned that the Heeler House (as I think some fans colloquially refer to it as) has layouts that change depending on the context of the episode. I've seen that happen in other animated TV series and I think its either for artistic licence and/or to allow for easier animation, so I find it cool that the game's developers figured out how to stitch the different rooms together. (3:22) I think what happened is that Outright Games, as they're known for publishing video games based on licenced IPs aimed at children, reached out to BBC Studios, who handle merchandise licencing for Bluey, to licence it because they saw that it was popular and wanted to make a game based on that, then once they got the licence, they got in contact with Artex Games to actually develop the game. Ludo Studio, who actually produce Bluey, were likely busy working on some of the last Season 3 episodes, including the 28 minute special "The Sign" that would close out the season, and so likely couldn't get as much creative control over the game. (7:02) I was reminded of when I imagined a Bluey video game, and what I imagined was similar to the released game but with more of an open world, however that would've been if the development studio were to have designers and/or writers who were Bluey fans themselves.
Oh my gosh, the mothers day episode that has Chili look down and Bandit look over at her and hold her hand when the balloon explodes signaling a miscarriage. I can't believe that they would know how to tastefully and cleverly add true emotions and adult elements within such an amazing and attention grabbing show for kids. Oh and the beach part is from the episode where Bluey is trying to be brave and go down the beach herself to catch up to her mum. 😉
I actually do live in Brisbane Australia, so it's a little tempting to see Brisbane in a video game, but for now, I think I'll stick with the occasional watch of the show. Also Jon is only two years older than me, I did not know that
Great review, thank you! We have this on the kids' Christmas list, and it sounds like it'll be good for them (ages 3 and 5 and they absolutely stink at video games right now). I completely understand the criticisms here--so much licensed Bluey stuff is really, really exceptional. The live show was wonderful, the book of stories we have is great, the toys have been solidly good, and so on. So yeah, having a game that feels like a knock-off made with less than 100% effort is definitely not what we were expecting, and that's a bummer.
My kitchen and living area was upstairs when I lived in California. I live in Ohio now and the kitchen and living area are also upstairs, but I live in a basement so almost everything is upstairs lol.
Im 33 and I don't even have a kid and somtimes I watch bluey. To be fair. I live with my mum, my brother, my sister in law and there kids. So im not watching my myself. There are kids im the room when it's on but it is genuinely a great tv show
Simplicity is good for a kids game, but that doesn't mean it can't have a bit depth. I had the same feel for the My Little Pony game. It was simple, but feels kinda shallow, and the minigames can be too difficult for a kid in order to progress through the main story.
Outside of value, the game is pretty solid and fun. Played with my kids for a couple hours (3 and 6, the 8yr old didn’t have any interest). The fact they mixed it up with the mini games is cool, especially The Floor is Lava changing obstacles and basically being multiplayer. There is a lot of potential here for content and that’s really my only complaint (and the camera not locking/zooming around the group if co-op). They could easily add more stories to this game as DLC for “Episodes” but it should have had maybe 3-5 of them in the first place but I do get kids will wander around playing the mini games and collecting stuff for fun so it adds more time and entertainment. I’d actually be content with them dropping a few additional episodes and just charging $10 as DLC. Sure, lame value but it would add to the overall package and then they could just do a complete edition down the road for the budget conscious. Also, they should add a Floor is Lava editor so you can mix it up even more for your kids and add goofy stuff to it, that’d be a fun little update, doesn’t seem like it’d be difficult with the engine since you can already place trampolines around in the world. Hope they come out with a couple extra episodes and it would greatly raise the overall but for what’s there it’s still a solid game.
Okay but like Can I get a game like this based exclusively on seasons 1-5 of Thomas the Tank Engine with graphics imitating the model miniatures as much as possible? 😩
Thank you for the review! I'm 30 year old and I was eyeing this game for myself, but I had a feeling that unlike the show (which you can enjoy fully as an adult with or without kids) this one would just be more babyfied and short. Maybe if I ever see this game for idk 15 bucks or less, then I'll certainly say screw it and get it. But for the price that it is nah I rather just buy wario ware or mario rpg.
BLUEY THE GAMEY I dunno their old place used to have fun with the thumbnails but here they are kinda samey. Could use more flavour like a blue tint to make it more gamey. (Heck using that Xbox instead of the Character would have been more Punchy)
I wish the game were a little more challenging. My Daughter is 7, and has played much more difficult games (including playing around with Grand Theft Auto V). I think she'll really enjoy this though, and the $40 price-point is perfect. It would be too expensive at $60. The best part for her will probably be the ability to play as the characters and wander around.
Hot take here but I think this new bluey game is to short and boring to be sold for $60 on the switch. All you do is collect stuff and some times I get excited about the plot line but $60 for A collect a thon game that is this short is unacceptable for $60. It really seems when it comes to video games like my little pony the game makers can't get it right.
The game is not worth $60 aud. It's a glorified mobile game, with 1 hour of content and tons of bugs. It was a complete rip off. My daughter did not enjoy it at all.
I feel that Bluey the videogame was mostly made for young kids, but its a good start point for young gamers in development.
This Bluey review is the most important review of the year, thanks for your thoughts on this moment in gaming history Jon!
I honestly thought Jon was older than 28, buts probably just that beautiful voice of his. Just putting out there..
I genuinely did a spit take when I found out he was only a year older than me. I assumed he was in his early 30's for years.
So that means he's been in the industry since he was 21. Holy cow
His voice is full of british testosterone
Please removes John's meat and potatoes from your mouth.
Imagine how I feel finding out I’m older than him. By a decent amount. It’s that deep voice.
As a childless adult I was quite unaware of this series, but Jon has succeeded in convincing me that I need to have a look at it.
*NEED*
You do, please do :D and enjoy
It's great, hope you enjoy it
Yes, you do. I am also a childless adult and I adore the show.

Similar concept to the putt putt games
BLUEY!!!!! This is the content we are here for. Sleepytime is my favorite episode .
Both my kids were in TEARS at the end of that episode, it was HILARIOUS

It really seems when it comes to video games like my little pony the game makers can't get it right.
60 dollars Jesus Christ I got this game for 40 dollars
Move out of the way P5 Tactica and Super Mario RPG, the best game releasing on November 17th is here finally
I like Bluey: The Videogame
Partner? You live with your business partner?
I am from the uk and I don’t care peppa pig is a better show probably nostalgic
Better than the app game
Why want bluey to win game of the year
Why is it so stuttery it’s literally just billboards and simple 3D ;-;
The review is almost as long as the game.
There’s a Rias second bluey game in the works. My higher-ups told me not to tell anyone that, but I don’t care I might be fired.
The mobile game is a terrible predatory Bluey game .
The game is not worth $60 aud. It's a glorified mobile game, with 1 hour of content and tons of bugs. It was a complete rip off. My daughter did not enjoy it at all.
You know, idk if Jon genuinely likes the series or he is just entirely trolling us.
its honestly a great series
He definitely genuinely likes it. It’s a great show - leagues above anything else you might watch with your kids.
I definitely think he's being genuine, what with Bluey being held in such high regard, to the point of some calling ot the gold standard of kids TV.
As someone who's watched the show, he's 100% genuine. Phenomenal show
Watch the show and tell me it's not amazing, people laughed at friendship is magic at first as well!
I don't care about these Gen Alpha cartoons.
Then why did you click on the video and decide to comment?
At least the cartoon itself looks more visually appealing than peppa pig.
Thank you for letting us see this game through Amelia’s eyes 🥹
