Great instructional video! I have always used a Dremel, but I’m definitely going to try this to expand my abilities & options for my customers. Thank you!

Most people don’t have the patience for the 3D star. I’ve been doing it that way for over 3 years now.

I use the cnc a majority of the time for this very reason, but if I had to choose between using a chisel and using a dremel, I’d use the chisel every time. It’s enjoyable for me. Nice quiet work, that is a real stress reliever.

Yeah, I bought a CNC myself about a year ago. But my 3D stars are so unique that I can’t stop doing. It’s my main selling point.

How long does it take you to do a full union with the second technique?

Great instructional video! I'm just learning this way of doing the stars, have aways painted them on, than give it a "rustic" look. I'm assuming you leave the stars natural? And do you stain your flags and if so, what stain do you use?

Thanks. Yea I don’t paint the stars. Too much work after carving them haha. I use Minwax Navy blue for the union.

As far as chiseling out the stars in the union, does it matter what kind of wood you are using?
I would think the harder woods would be more difficult to chisel out? I have a hard time getting crisp stars using the Dremel and flexshaft. Thanks for the video.

Question, have you used these techniques on a waving flag as well?

Not yet. I’d like to though. I think the process should be fairly similar.

You need to use a leather strop to sharpen your chisel, it still isn’t sharp enough

Hey Chris great work I just don’t know about the Lazy Susan thing it looks like your material would move too easily and cause a mistake but saying that the work speaks for itself. how long did it take you to do the union? Thanks for the video!

I took my time and just spent the day doing it. I could probably knock one out in a couple hours if I committed to it. Once you get yourself in a rhythm it starts going pretty quick.

Do you have a link to the hammer as well?

I wasn’t using anything special. Just one with a nylon head. I need to get a proper woodworking mallet.
